  • Ron Corry to be appointed WSFC Goalkeeper Coach

    mack

WestSydneyFootball.com understands that ex-Socceroo Ron Corry, who is currently part of the Australian Institute of Sport system, has been approached and is likely to accept a role at the West Sydney club as their inaugural Goalkeeping coach. No official confirmation has come to light at this time.

Ron Corry had a long career with multiple clubs in the Western Sydney area from the mid 1960's all the way to the early 1980's. Previously to his AIS role, he was part of the coaching setups at Sutherland, Canterbury, Wollongong, Blacktown, Bankstown and Sydney United.

Ron Corry is a quality signing. He is an absolute professional, and a knockabout Aussie. Will suit our club to a tee.

A great asset to the club if iy can happen. The knowledge that he hs gained over the years is second to none here.

    He's 70 years old

Your never too old to impart knowledge to the next generation of footballers.

I expect that Ron would be responsible for all goalkeepers in the insugural season and be heavily involved in the WSFC youth & development / academy program going forward.

popa may look to sign an ex team mate (currently employed elsewhere) as the Club' goalkeeping coach from year 2 onwards.

Can anyone enlighten my ignorance. Is he"old school" or quite modern in his approach and methods? Any idea the last time he went through a coaching course etc? Genuine questions, dont know the first thing about the bloke.

    Damn. Session two is brutal.

Thanks for that T. I'm not up with the latest techniques/methodology though. I assume from your comments and the fact he's worked in the AIS that Ron is as modern as the rest of them?

PS fantastic insight those videos, great resource

    sounds good.

tbh dont know much about him, but if he has a good track record then that has to count for something

Sorry but this is not a great start. Corry is 2 days older than the Pope and despite knowlege etc he must be out there and doing his thing for first 2 years. Its ALL hands on deck in all Coaching capacity.

    Very poor IMO :xmad:

I'm pretty sure at one stage Jim Fraser and Ron Corry ran the Goalkeeper business together.

So is Sir Alex Ferguson. Whats your point? It's not as if he is running around out there playing for us.

I didn't mean it in a bad way. Just stating a fact.

Alongside Jim Fraser and Fred Wall (RIP), Ron is one of the greatest goalkeeper coaches our country has ever seen.

    • Without trying to be an immensly massive knob, and I say this to someone who's opinion I respect a lot on here, thats absolutely not true. Theres a large pile studies on the impact of player performance post ACL injuries. I'm happy to have discussion about it thats evidence based, though the post game may not be the best place. We are here solely to bemoan our current standings aren't we?  That all said, I dont think Tate has any real future with his current output. He's been back at it for a season and is only showing decline
    • Not sure.  Will decide at the last minute but doubtful after todays performance.
    • With all due respect, I can't remember Tate ever putting in a decent 90min.
