  • Safe Standing For Parramatta Stadium

    mack

    WestSydneyFootball.com Exclusive

Parramatta Stadium will be upgraded by 2,400 seats as well as being set to become the first major stadium in Australia to be upgraded with European style safe standing. An improvement to entry gates into the North Terrace is also included in the upgrade.

Sources confirmed that the original Parramatta Stadium master plan is still being followed. However, the planned upgrade to the South Terrace will not go forward at this stage due to increased costs over initial estimates to other aspects of the upgrade. It is my understanding that an upgrade to the training field that was requested by the Parramatta Eels may also not be going ahead for the same reason.

The Wanderers have also not changed their contract with Parramatta Stadium, and the club is still committed to playing all 13 home games there next season. It is not yet known if Parramatta will host two derby matches there as the FFA has yet to release the draw.

No further funding has been allocated to Parramatta Stadium by any level of Government. As such there is no information on a time frame for additional aspects of the master plan upgrades to be undertaken.

How awesome would it be if our new owners made the shortfall in the funding gap to get these renovations done?

It would only be a short term loan made to make up the difference and perhaps pirtek could receive a discount on the naming rights on the stadium for x amount of years or the loan could be paid back based on revenue of stadium hire.

It wouldn't be much as it seems the construction costs were under estimated for the south stand. It wouldn't be funding for the upgrading of the east stand just the under estimation of the south stand.

I guess it's just wishful thinking but the owners have to realize that the more fans they can fit into the stadium the more revenue they can receive.

I don't think owners should be putting any money into Pritek stadium, while it is still government owned.

Proper training grounds with center of excellence would be awesome.

Mack, do you know whether it is just safe standing seats in place of the existing seats or are they adding the extra riser between the existing rows of seats which increases capacity by up to 70-80% ? The latter would take the capacity of the northern terrace up from the existing 2,200 + 2,400 = 4,600 to 4,600 + 70% = 7,800.

I wonder how this would affect memberships in the north terrace next season. I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to only sell memberships on a per seat basis; or worse still, if they cap it.

What's the point of having 2k in an area that holds 7k?

I agree, I don't think it's beyond them to stupidly only sell tickets for one person per row when it could be 2 and halving the potential figure of people that can actually fit in there. Given how this season has played out, I think it should be 60% members, 40% general public or even 70/30. If there is to be a second tier of seating seperate from the original though then make the front section for members and the back for general public, then if members don't turn up people can move forward and fill in the gaps from the back.

Sign of the times, a stadium receiving a football specific upgrade. Things are looking beautiful

Whilst I don't have much connection to FNSW anymore, I wouldnt be surprised to see the Wanderers set up their training base at Glenwood park post current renovations to fields, admin buildings, indoor centre & other amenities.

They will have 2 synthetic fields when completed in October this year!

    Time will tell.

the chairs can still be folded down to sit i presume, i propose that we cable tire all the new chairs so we can make sure no f.logs will be able to put them down and sit at all in the RBB :xnod:

Not for Eels games. They prefer to sit and knit, and chant Parra, clap clap clap.

Just like all League fans do for their respective clubs.

    Atmosphere. lol.

What about half time? How can we use them to sit during half time? Is that an option?

    Nope.

It would take a while to unlock them all.

Still doesn't answer my question though, if they lock them then I guess answer to my question is no as others above said, it would take forever to unlock them all just for half time then lock them again...

Wanderers’ Red and Black Bloc could see capacity doubled with stadium upgrade

    THE DAILY TELEGRAPHMARCH 22, 2014 11:00PM

THE Wanderers’ fan group, the Red and Black Bloc, could see its capacity at Pirtek Stadium doubled next season under plans for the venue’s upgrade.

The Northern Terrace, the RBB’s home section at Wanderers home games, will be remodelled to include so-called “safe standing†areas and be increased to a limit of 5000 under advanced planning.

The so-called “active support†end at the Parramatta venue is fully subscribed thanks to the RBB’s swelling numbers, but is among the first parts of the ground targeted by the $30 million upgrade, with more seats to be installed at the opposite end, lifting capacity to between 24,000-25,000.

Other, less visible areas to be redeveloped would be the dressing rooms and training facilities, with longer-term aims of increasing the capacity further and remodelling corporate function areas.

The “safe-standing†areas would be based on a design pioneered in Europe and used by a number of clubs in Germany’s Bundesliga.

There are still rows of seats installed, but the seats flip up and can be locked in place, creating instead rows of terraces that are divided by barriers to prevent any danger of fans getting crushed together.

The RBB has been credited with the creation of a uniquely passionate atmosphere at Wanderers games, and Western Sydney chairman Lyall Gorman said it deserved to be allowed to grow.

“The safe-standing idea was a turning point for the Bundesliga which now has the largest average attendances in Europe,†Gorman said.

“It could change the dynamics of our support but also of the league, just as the RBB did in the first place. They have created the finest atmosphere at any regular sporting venue, but this could help them take it to another level again.

“If we can allow more people to be part of the active support area, that can only add to the effect of what they do.â€

Defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley said the RBB’s “electric atmosphere†deserved to be expanded.

“It’s well known they’re some of the most passionate fans, if not the most passionate and loud fans, in the league and in sport in Australia,†he said.

“They create a wonderful and electric atmosphere. Every time we play it’s absolutely amazing to be a part of that and

Tara Rushton and Mark Rudan preview the clash between Western Sydney Wanderers and Perth Glory.

“It’s great to see people’s passion for football coming out and especially that they’re all from different cultures, different backgrounds, different walks of life and they all come together for the one cause.

“So to be part of that and to have the opportunity to play in front of them is great and it’s an honour.

“They are single-handedly coming up with amazing things every game and it’s great they can represent the club and be something bigger and continue to do that.â€

The Wanderers play their fifth game in 15 days today when they host Perth Glory, desperate to end a three-match winless streak in the A-League.

Topor-Stanley admitted that fatigue would be an issue after juggling commitments across the Asian Champions League and the A-League.

“Fatigue is going to be there, but mentally you have to deal with that,†he said. “We are quite fit and we’re physically well conditioned and that’s something we’re going to have to deal with.

“I’m sure we’re not the only people who are feeling fatigued in the league.â€

Anyone else notice mainstream media quite often saying "so called" when referring to us ?

    So called active support

So called Red and Black Bloc

    So called journalism.

they are not using the term "so called" to question the legitimacy of active support and the RBB. the way they use it is the way the term was originally used, before it got morphed into what people generally understand it to be today.

i.e: used to introduce a new word or phrase that is not yet known by many people:

It isn't yet clear how destructive this so-called 'super virus' is.

Out of curiosity - will a 5,000 (if we get those numbers in RBB membership) make us the largest active support group in the country?

We should be larger then MV?

Understood and fair enough, but I guess I just don't see them using the term to describe other support bases.

So if they double the NT to 5,000 do we think we could sell that many active support season tickets.Looking at recent weeks i would doubt it.

I can see the RBB being limited by the club to a few bays at best and they will use this season as justification. That way they can sell quite a few thousand game day tickets will the allure of being "near" the RBB.
