  • Wanderers Call Member Vote On ACL Venue

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have called on their members to vote on the venue for their Asian Champions League Final home leg.

Members have been contacted by email and asked to log in to the membership site to vote by 12pm tomorrow.

The unusual step could be part of an appeal by the club to convince the AFC the match should be played at Parramatta Stadium rather than alternative venues such as the Sydney Football Stadium or ANZ.

I just voted for Parra Stadium.

It would have been better if we could choose a 2nd preference in case the AFC reject Parra stadium.

Agree. I'm a bit suspicious of it being a first past the post vote rather than a preferential vote. I expect Parra will be the majority's choice however the AFC has already said it doesn't meet their final standards so ultimately Parra will probably be rejected. I suspect the club will then choose ANZ whereas the majority, if given the option, would probably pick Allianz as their alternative. Also the club should have given some background information as to what events are going at the various stadia leading up to Oct 25th. If monster truck events or concerts are going on the week before that would surely influence the members' decision.

this reminds me of pre season in our first season. when we had to fight against so many people to play at Parramatta stadium not anz stadium. and we were proven right over time........suck sh1t chris tanner

I voted Allianz this game should be a showcase of how far football and the wanderers have come in Australia 18k at pirtek just doesn't do it justice ..and you have to think that if parra doesn't get the ok then it's going to be either Allianz or Anz anyway

Agree, I think there will be more away support interest in this than people might think, I can see them selling their 1,600ish allocation actually, some located in Australia will come from Melbourne, Brissy and so on for it, they are a well supported team.

No way in the world is Parra going to satisfy demand for this game. Parra is too small and ANZ is too big... Allianz isn't where we want to go but capacity wise is just right.

Parra will win the vote.... but the right vote..... time will tell. People will generally vote with their own seat at Parra in mind, which is fair enough.

Yep, why would we want to play at ANZ when the pitch will be an absolute disaster!! Problem, not many people know that there is a monster truck event on that week!!

    Cool! Truckasaurus!!!!!! :D

In today's world... absolutely imbecilic.  Makes you wonder/worry about their security practices in relation to credit card transactions etc!

The whole story of AFC not thinking Parra is suitable is bs. That's media spin trying to gauge public opinion.

Our CEO has said that they've heard nothing from AFC.

People shouldn't be voting because of what they read. Vote for where we should be playing. And that is at home.

Can't believe the amount of comments I'm reading around the joint with sentiments of:"lets get 40-80k!!""we'll show em a big crowd!""we need to grow our support base!""its an event! the ANZ members will turn up too!!"parra is too small!"Erebus says:**** that! Every member will get a ticket since you have priority. This is a game that should be a reward for the members that have been through everything, not some theatre goers going to an "event" that will absorb the atmosphere and take away our edge.We have not conceded at home since Match Day 1. Parra is an intimate intimidating atmosphere. It is our HOME!They asked us 2.5 years ago where we wanted to play. #NOTOANZ was the result. We WANTED Parra. Now people are seriously considering throwing that out the window so we lose whatever competitive edge we have so 10k more people can show up?Get farked. This is an ACL final. We might never be here again. We need whatever edge we can to win this game.#YesToWanderland and it gives more ammo for a proper upgrade for Parra./rantPS, its only the 1st leg. All the theatre goers will be confused.

You don't think that 45,000 people at the first year grand final was intimidating? Showing that we have the demand for the Allianz shows we need a bigger stadium just as much as selling out parramatta stadium does

    1. Voted Parramatta

    2. In saying that, I would've liked the option to choose Allianz as a second preference

    3. The club is probably getting dozens of mixed messages through social media and other avenues about the venue, it's nice that they've put it back in the member's hands

    4. When people (and there will be people who do) get upset for whatever reason about the venue that is chosen, the club can say "we gave you the chance to vote, the people have spoken"

IMO I think it was nice of them to extend the offer :)

Well if this vote really does decide if the final 1st leg will be a Parra then game over, Parra will romp home and the final will be there (I voted Parra but would have like the second pref).

Basically if your not a full member your fecked lol Enjoy the shite fight for the few tickets left long with the away fans!

Imagine 80,000 @ Stadium Australia! WOW!

    #takeittoanzandletssellitout

I like the dream, but if we couldn't sell out parramatta, how are we supposed to sell out ANZ? Allianz is more achievable! But I like the idea :)

I manage 4 other WSW member accounts, I'll vote 2 for parra, and 2 for allianz in case parra does not go through.

Totally want ANZ out of the picture.

They want to split the anti ANZ vote in half so ANZ gets up.

    **** ANZ

    #NoToANZ

It won't be Parra........all fans will vote for it but it will be too small

They are doing the survey to see what the preference is between Homebush and the SFS.............

in that case they should have given us two votes
