  • Wanderers Call Member Vote On ACL Venue

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have called on their members to vote on the venue for their Asian Champions League Final home leg.

Members have been contacted by email and asked to log in to the membership site to vote by 12pm tomorrow.

The unusual step could be part of an appeal by the club to convince the AFC the match should be played at Parramatta Stadium rather than alternative venues such as the Sydney Football Stadium or ANZ.

Imagine 80,000 @ Stadium Australia! WOW!

    #takeittoanzandletssellitout

I have been at anz with 10k and anz with 80k it still sounds **** no matter how many are there

What about a 10-15k RBB at one end? Would be pretty epic!

With the same 1k doing all the work whilst everyone around them "absorbs" the atmosphere?

Yes was at that end too, no comparison when a couple of 100 Juve die hearts are doing it, not a great indication.

ANZ hasn't experienced proper active support yet

Impossible for ANZ to 'get' active support right...sound and location of seats buggers up anything remotely raucous.

Festung Wanderland...you know it makes sense!

Voted for Parra. Will be furious if they don't do a members pre sale and I miss out.

One would assume this would be the case otherwise we would be inforned prior to voting.

I voted for Allianz, but as a member am working off the assumption we'll have a preferential booking period so really it's no difference for me.

True, but now is not the time.

We need as much home ground advantage as we can get especially in an ACL final.

Can't believe the amount of comments I'm reading around the joint with sentiments of:

    "lets get 40-80k!!"

"we'll show em a big crowd!"

"we need to grow our support base!"

"its an event! the ANZ members will turn up too!!

    "parra is too small!"

    Erebus says:

**** that! Every member will get a ticket since you have priority. This is a game that should be a reward for the members that have been through everything, not some theatre goers going to an "event" that will absorb the atmosphere and take away our edge.

We have not conceded at home since Match Day 1. Parra is an intimate intimidating atmosphere.

    It is our HOME!

They asked us 2.5 years ago where we wanted to play. #NOTOANZ was the result. We WANTED Parra. Now people are seriously considering throwing that out the window so we lose whatever competitive edge we have so 10k more people can show up?

    Get farked.

This is an ACL final. We might never be here again. We need whatever edge we can to win this game.

#YesToWanderland and it gives more ammo for a proper upgrade for Parra.

    /rant

PS, its only the 1st leg. All the theatre goers will be confused.

    agree

plus the minute we go there we leave the door ajar for 'you don't need any more upgrades at parra - just move all your big games to anz.' anyone who votes for anz is hurting the club in a number of ways imo.

The AFC had been concerned on two levels – first that its showpiece event should appear on TV screens in front of as big a crowd as possible, but also over the lack of dedicated and secure facilities for visiting dignitaries and Al-Hilal’s billionaire owners.

The club’s president is Abdulrahman bin Musa’ad, one of the most affluent men in Saudi Arabia and a member of the country’s royal family.

Well f*** those wankers, give them a taste of western sydney, hahaha

But it’s understood the AFC have indicated that Pirtek Stadium could be Western Sydney’s nominated venue, even though the club will forgo up to $1m in ticket revenue. Simply by appearing in the final the Wanderers will bank US$750,000, but victory is worth double that amount.

    That's a lot of doughnuts.

    Just throwing this out there.....

What's the capacity at Parramatta? About 19500?

There will be an away allocation obviously, then the possibility that there will be a high demand for media, lots of AFC peeps flying in on a junket because it's a final and then potentially more corporates because it's a final.

So how many tickets will actually go on sale for the public, and will there be enough tickets for every Wanderers member? Potentially not.

Forget all that stuff. THIS is what we should be focusing on:

Goalkeeper Ante Covic revealed the players were hugely keen to keep the final there after turning the ground into something of the proverbial fortress.

The Wanderers’ last defeat there was against Newcastle on March 4, while in the ACL – since losing to Ulsan Hyundai on February 26 – the club has won five consecutive games at Pirtek Stadium without conceding a goal.

“Parramatta has been a very solid home for us, both in the A-League and the ACL,†said Covic. “We feel comfortable here, the fans love it, the atmosphere fantastic and it’s our home.

“We feel we can beat anyone here and our record is pretty damn good. In the ACL I’m sure it’s tough for teams to come out here after a long trip and play in front of this crowd, against a team that’s going to work so hard until the final whistle.

“I’d love the final to be here – I understand the concept of getting the biggest crowd possible, but this is a great football field. That’s what I love about it, the fans are close and vocal and it’s their home as well.â€

And there will be plenty of eating options for the dignitaries on Church Street even if they can't get a Wanderdog at the game.

That money could be spent on lawyers and fines for certain pyrotechnic devices that may or not be let off during the game  :ninja:

Away allocation can be the standard 8% which was offered yesterday. Everything else is the boxes so that won't affect members.

For me, while Parramatta would be great.  It's simply not big enough for a final.

Cup Finals in London aren't played at great 'atmospheric' stadia such as Craven Cottage, White Hart Lane, Stamford Bridge, Selhurst park etc..

They're played at Wembley, A big game, deserves a big stadium for a big occasion.

Since ANZ Stadium would be a hopeless ground because of the monster trucks,  Allianz Stadium is a logical choice

Cup finals are usually a one-legged affair with the venue set in stone before the comp starts.

This is a 2-legged affair where each team plays at HOME.

    Why give up this advantage?

That's a very good point, but there's not a whole lot wrong with Allianz Stadium when its at capacity, it would make more of a better home-ground advantage with 35-40K wanderers fans (depending on how many fans Al-Hilal bring)

No guarantee demand won't outstrip the capacity of the boxes and afc wont give a flying about members.
