  • Wanderers Call Member Vote On ACL Venue

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have called on their members to vote on the venue for their Asian Champions League Final home leg.

Members have been contacted by email and asked to log in to the membership site to vote by 12pm tomorrow.

The unusual step could be part of an appeal by the club to convince the AFC the match should be played at Parramatta Stadium rather than alternative venues such as the Sydney Football Stadium or ANZ.

    Just throwing this out there.....

What's the capacity at Parramatta? About 19500?

There will be an away allocation obviously, then the possibility that there will be a high demand for media, lots of AFC peeps flying in on a junket because it's a final and then potentially more corporates because it's a final.

So how many tickets will actually go on sale for the public, and will there be enough tickets for every Wanderers member? Potentially not.

Away allocation can be the standard 8% which was offered yesterday. Everything else is the boxes so that won't affect members.

Aye, just give the Billionaire Arab owners / visiting dignitaries  one of those special areas in the East stand where you get a esky with some beers in (non Alco versions) and a basket of smiths chips and they will be good to go  :good:

There will be more corporate tickets held back than the usual though, Parra won't accommodate all that within its current boxes for an ACL final. Those who have members tickets in the upper west near the half way line may be shifted out wider I suspect. I think the ACL's concern was about the size of the corporate facilities. Means **** all to us of course and we couldn't care less, but matters to the powers that be.

And I would hope there wouldn't be empty seats behind the benches!

Cup finals are usually a one-legged affair with the venue set in stone before the comp starts.

This is a 2-legged affair where each team plays at HOME.

    Why give up this advantage?

That's a very good point, but there's not a whole lot wrong with Allianz Stadium when its at capacity, it would make more of a better home-ground advantage with 35-40K wanderers fans (depending on how many fans Al-Hilal bring)

There's nothing wrong with Allianz stadium. It's just not our home stadium.

It's been decided. Case closed. We play at HOME.

Great form from the club, love it that they asked the fans about it. They've potentially given us the power to chose our own fate. And what do some people do with that power? Vote for a different stadium, rather than saying **** all the 'oil money' royalties and their media puppets, this is our HOME, and this is where we will create History! We are the captains of our souls! We are the 12th player on the field, when we are at home. And Parramatta is out home!

All the media puppets and whoever else they invite will still get in even if at Parra.

Another factor is how many fans are Al-Hilal likely to bring??

If they bring a few thousand then I would hate to see wanderers fans miss out on getting a seat because their seat allocation was large like Guangzhou Evergrande was

    hmm,

Why in the survey does it mention Parramatta Stadium, ANZ Stadium and Allianz Stadium.

Isn't it called Pirtek Stadium by sponsorship rights, the same how the other two are also Stadium Australia and Sydney Football Stadium?

No sponsorship other than acl ones are allowed. That's why they cover the pirtek signs everywhere ... good point tho about others Edited by Westy

Top tier answer: Parramatta. The golden choice, our fortress of solitude. Most importantly of all, our home.

Good tier answer: Allianz. Good stadium, more ticket allocation. Get a chance to bring family and relative a long. Proper acoustics. Wouldn't be unhappy if chosen stadium.

Lower s-hit tier answer: ANZ. Terrible acoustics, players look like ants. You're succumbing to greedy corporate executives. Defect immediately.

That's what caught my attention, I understand why it has to be called Parramatta Stadium, but the others was interesting.

It was probably done for simplicity because they may be a few people that think, what the hell is Stadium Australia?

Which brings up another point, on the halfway point in the eastern stand it had the Parramatta City Council sign,

even though its a government organisation, doesn't that count as advertising?

If you're more interesting in pleasing Middle Eastern royal family members in corporate facilities, then go support Melbourne City

I wish we got this vociferous for our first grand final, which was meant to be our home game. Our home is our home. The positive I see out of SFS is that we play the derby there so get a training run and it's not so bad there, but only if we have to. ANZ is a mystery that no one can answer. Anyone who went to the world cup qualifier against Uruguay can probably give a clue to how it could be, remembering to take account for it being a better atmosphere than then. Anyone whose been to a rugby league game at Parramatta knows full well how **** the atmophere is there when it's not a WSW game, so I reserve my judgment for ANZ. But to fill it up? What's been our average for the ACL so far at home, how many sellouts? To think we could suddenly quadruple our crowd is a bit ambitious

It isn't about pleasing or comfort or any of that shite though is it, it is the space they will take up and how many corporate tickets will there be and will it spill out of the boxes. It is a final and the ACL will want to entertain their backers.

As mentioned I don't give a **** about them either, but ACL will have a list of who must be fitted in and that list will be accommodated where ever it is played and regardless of capacity?

If it is at Parra (and I hope it is) then I hope the max num of tickets are available for fans and all members get a ticket.

The only way of selling it out would be to sell top tickets at no more then $40 each the cheapest section in the $15 range, with good family deals.

to get 80K crowd you have to appeal to the wider sydney sport fan communnity.  Which is if its high profile enough, and cheap enough, good public transport , then people will go

People over estimate how many Wanderers fans there are out there.

I estimate we have a solid 12,000 - 14,000 die hards who go absolutely everywhere. But after you take into account their family and friends I reckon 30,000 is about where it ends.

We're so loud and abrasive it must give people a false sense of how big the base actually is.

Fox sports is reporting that Parra will get the green light.

To be announced in the coming days.

I will wear a proud erection for days if this happens to be the case.

Funny you mention this in an email to all my wanderers mates today I mentioned that in pure elation how last night replaced nov 16 2005 as my fav sporting event ever

When cole rose to that cross and scored it was the greatest feeling i can remember in a stadium

That night the Socceroos qualified was epic due to penalties and the atmosphere at the end was of course fantastic but for the time before that it was largely subdued nothing like we have at parra

WDWSF would be epic outside of that the rbb would be fl.og city you would get punch ups because of the first 10k first timers complaining some wo.g is in their seat

Short and sweet, Arab owners still get 8% on ticket sales so should not even whinge, they fear our club and very proud culture that the club and amazing fans have made, they only have their riches which does not buy happiness at all. Parramatta Stadium is OUR home ground, take your obnoxious opinion and shove it!

    Link to comment

It's okay, if rich arabs and executives want decent, large corporate facilities they can wait for the second leg in the King Fahd stadium. That's going to be the more important match as well (first leg's still important but not as important).

If these billionaire Arabs want better facilities then they can build a new stadium for us.

what's the cost to them, a few gold covered ferraris?

If they start now it could be ready in 2 weeks just by hiring every wog concreter in western sydney.

Don't care about corporate allocation don't care about final glory hunters, parra is our home. All members guaranteed a seat. Bring it on.

    • It's no longer up to us, except that we play first before City so we can at least put the pressure on them instead of it being killed if City played first & won. If we lose or draw we're out even if City lose to Western United. If we win and City lose, we're in. If we win and City draw, we go through on the Games Won tiebreaker. If we win and City win, we're out.
