  • Wanderers Sale Confirmed

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have been sold to a consortium lead by Primo Smallgoods owner Paul Lederer, Pirtek founder Peter Duncan, Jefferson Cheng and an un-named fourth party. The new ownership will take over at the start of the new financial year.

The sale has been under negotiations for months finally cleared the final hurdle and will be completed on the 30th of June 2014.

Three of the new owners all have a measure of existing input and connection to the Wanderers. Lederer is an existing member of the Wanderers boardroom, Duncan's company Pirtek recently purchased the naming rights for Parramatta Stadium, and Cheng is a director of the International Strikers & Goalkeeper academies, who are high level corporate partners for the Wanderers in this current season.

The FFA began the process of selling the club in June 2013, by appointing UBS to managed the sale of the club. Negotiations were hard fought, with the consortium sticking to their guns on the length of the license (clubs licenses in the A-League are not perpetual and must be renewed) and a reduction in sale price from the FFA's preferred mark of $15 million down to a figure less than $12 million.

With the club tipped to come close to a break-even or even a profit this season, it is unlikely the new owners will have to do much if any cost-cutting should they want to achieve a profit in their first season of ownership.

Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman is rumoured to be leaving the club to take over Melbourne Victory at the end of the season and may need to be replaced. Assistant Manager Ante Milicic is another member of the current staff who is confirmed to be leaving, with ex-Sydney FC manager Ian Crook rumoured to have agreed to take on the role next season.

The new owners will have roughly a month to come to grips with their new ownership before the pre-season starts in earnest. As yet no information on any future investment or any plans the consortium have for the club has come to light.

    #TeamBridge.

Does he honestly deserve three years though?

Depends how big his pay packet is.

I will concede he hasn't lived up to the form he had last year but neither has 90% of the squad.

    Agreed.

I just have issues with a player being offered such a long contract. No one deserves that long a contract (based on either last season or this), IMO.

I much prefer offering long term contracts from certain players as it creates a core group of players that provide stability in a very unstable league. I much prefer going out and recruiting one or two players here and there as opposed to the Sydney FC model of trying to buy a whole new squad every transfer window.

SST confirmed the name of the fourth party. Can't remember his name but iirc he used to look after 'leasing' for Lowy's Westfield's.

Expect plenty of wallet raping then.

Looking forward to our first fan forums with new owners during pre-season.

But then, looking forward to our next ACL game more. And home against Perth as well. Nice away game in Gosford coming up. sadly I cannot make that.. Will cheer on the team in Land of Rising Sun.

I'm worried the new owners are going to treat us like s**t and not respect the fact that we are a community orientated club. Lederer has 'family ties' to Eastern Suburbs Hakoah according to an article in The Guardian. I wld trust the owners if they were more Westie, for eg, the Mullet Man from the Adelaide United game. Sigh. Maybe I am ignorant of their origins.

(I just understood why Balkanite calls me Marty - I'm neither that young or that good at football unfortunately!)

I look forward to wankers not being able to say everything we do is due to FFA bias.

And where is the evidence of such bias? The suspended points deduction hanging over our heads while other clubs fans rip flarea left right and centre with no penalties.

Maybe the continual harrassment by security despite evictions been less then teams from other codes.

Ooooor perhaps we have blind favouritism from the refs ala ESFC. I turned off last game in disgust when Sebastian Ryall chased down a Brisbane player and chopped him from behind and not even a yellow.

People who make these accusations are clutching at straws.

We'll just have to wait and see if the new owners want to see a serious return on their investment, if they are Sage-like investors, or somewhere in between. We'll learn soon enough.

That's great news. The first of many changes should be the quality of food. Mr Pirtek can get his stadium Catering contracts torn up immediately. Mr Primo can come in and take over and add a more effnik approach to the catering. After all, we all know and love our Football and we all know and love our Food. :meep:

If they manage to screw this club around and ingore fans' interests I'll shove Lederer's salami up his bum crack.

It all goes down to the bottom line.

The owners will stump up the cash for everything and have all the profits or losses.

Surprised nobody has lamented about losing lyall, he has been a rock for us and a great leader for the club the past two years.

Nobody will know how that will turn out until the owners make decisions and we hear from them in a fan forum. We can only hope that it will be a good thing if they build on the good work the existing officials at the club have laid down in the past two years.

I really can't see them changing too many things. If it aint broken, don't fix it. just a tweak here and there, that's all that's required.

He is gone already. he asked for 350k, Popa said no way. That was the end of it.
