I heard the Visy sponsorship was $250K and then another $200K bonus if they got out of the group.

I'm trying to work out how we have gone financially so far with our participation in the ACL.

    Group stage.  3 travel subsidies @ $30k + 4 win payments of $40k = $250k.

    Rd of 16.        1 travel subsidy @ $40k + win payment of $50k = $90k.

    Sponsorship.  Visy = ???

    Attendance.   11,212 + 9,292 + 11,099 + 10,639 = 42,242 @ say $12 = $507k

Total to date.  $847k + Visy sponsorship.

Still to come.  Qtr Final. 1 travel subsidy @ $50k

With gate takings to come for the Evergrande game the total should be around $1m plus prize money if we win plus the Visy sponsorship.

I'm thinking we ought to be making a profit out of this.  Adelaide United did last time they played in the ACL.

Also factor a high percentage of prize money that FFA has taken and distributed to other clubs.

I knew they did this in the early days of the aleague, but do they still do it now? Redistribute winnings? Surely not?

I'm fairly sure that doesn't happen any more but even if it did it would only take part of $210k off us.

Would have happened then as we were still owned by the FFA.

There was an article about it few months ago.. gotta look for it.

I know its early days yet and I am not sure how much we should read into this BUT, overnight Evegrande played a friendly match against Hamburg and absolutely Walloped them 6-2. Even if Hamburg played a second team thats a pretty impressive effort.

The Chinese Super League is currently in a break. Evergrande played their last match end of May, and will play their next league match on July 17th. By the time they come to Parramatta they will have five league matches under the belt. As we are yet to finalise our squad and will only play one competitive match before August 20th, Evergrande seems almost unbeatable at this stage of the competition. I fear we will be in very different shape compared to the VIC who met them in February and April. We will need a miracle.

Gotta trust Popa, he's got us this far .Will be very hard but not impossible. They didn't look very good against the Tards, let's wait n see!

    C'mon WSW!!!!!!!

I hope everyone understands what we are up against. I know in "Popa we trust" and all that but **** me this is going to be near impossible. I am usually an optmistic sort of person but optimism only gets you so far. While Evegrande goes about playing friendlies against top class European opposition and then commencing their season we will still be in preason mode playing teams with the calibre of Macarthur Rams and Blacktown city. No disrespect to those teams but it wont be good enough, not even close.

I think the change in lineup will probably affect us more than the fact that it's preseason. It will take something special for us to get through.

    Yes I agree with this.

The all stars concept needs to be scrapped as well.

All Stars is a marketeer's wank and everybody knows it except the FFA. I wonder who'll be pushing ADP's wheelchair onto the field?

I'm just going to give 2 examples of teams not given a chance , Greece '04 Euro's , Costa Rica this WC. I'm sure Popa n his staff have the situation sorted out , he's always surprised us! :)

The fact we have to play them twice makes it really hard.

I could see us getting a sneaky against the odds win once but twice will be extremely hard. Even more so that we are away for the second leg.

We trust Popa to prepare the team as best as possible before our match, once there it is up to the players, Popa managing the team during the match & the football gods to see what happens.

We needed to win 2-0 at home at our last qualifier to advance. Everyone thought it was against the odds, yet we did it......perfectly.

We're still in this, despite what the odds are saying.

Our biggest problem will be that before, we had a team. This time we have a new team.

The win against Hiroshima felt like a small miracle. I still can't believe that the WSW actually knocked out the Japanese champions. Against the Lippi boys a small miracle will not be enough though.

Majority of the players we have retained from 2013/14 squad have been playing regularly for us in the ACL.

I think the point the above are trying to make is that EG is and will be a step above our other opposition... Also the fact that we haven't been playing week in week out will also be another challenge facing our team that will have a state premier league side as our warm up!

I believe that these all star games were actually lined up for us but because the ffa didn't want to show favourtism towards the side that they owned they came up with the all star shenanigans. Pisses me right off that Victory played Liverpool, perth and adelaide are playing malaga etc. Yet our sydney game is the ******* all stars bullshit.

When Victory hosted them in the group stage, GE were made to look second rate.

GE are a dangerous outfit when you allow them to play, but they also leak plenty of goals.

I'm not concerned about the opposition in any trial matches we play prior to these ACL fixtures, as our lads will lift to any challenge.
