Wanderers To Face Perth In FFA Cup Opener

Well that is just about the shittest draw we could get 

Assuming the FFA don't screw us around by making us play the day we're meant to be in Brisbane for a pre-season camp & friendly, we'll be playing our game against Leeds, flying to Brisbane for a pre-season camp, flying back to Sydney and then a few days later (potentially, there are 3 weeks of games), flying all the way to Perth and back.

8000 km in the space of a week.

Great opportunity to produce a few !!!

It’s probably better to find a WA club an push out the GC match...

Good opportunity to make a statement of intent.  Maximum effort from the get go!

It’s like the glory days of the ACL all over again!!!

Well our last three seasons we finished 6th, 7th and 8th. Makes sense that we'd recreate our post ACL glory days with a 9th.

So sick of this rigged draw. One pot ffs.

Well we got decent results against Perth with a 3/10 team last season. Looks like we've lifted to a 7.5/10 so... 0-3 win

One pot and any member federation vs A League fixture is played at the member federation home ground.

Or do what they used to do in the FA Cup. If a tiny club gets the home game against a huge club they could negotiate to give up the home advantage in return for a bigger slice of ticket and program sales.

You'd get fourth tier clubs drawing a Manchester United or Liverpool and celebrating because the payday could get them promoted.

Perth beat WA NPL side Bayswater last night 3-0 with both Popovic boys in the team.

Saw something about Riley Week and being on the bench. He signed with Fulham so may be back on loan

Does anyone knew if we have any friendlies lined up against local NPL teams?

I personally wouldn't mind a match against Blacktown City at Lily Homes among others such as Sydney United and Marconi.

Playing Mountie Wanderers seems appropriate as well.

The club has been reluctant to play open door friendlies against local Western Sydney teams in recent years.

Cost of police/security.

So who can they play?   Seems to defeat the point if they can't help the clubs that are the breeding grounds for future Wanderers.

They've played APIA, they can play games without advertising them, teams in Gosford or Wollongong or Newcastle.

Plus Gallop telling them not to advertise.

At the Members Committee meeting we were told that there will be a mix of closed door and open door friendlies. Scheduling was waiting on the FFA Cup draw. As that has happened,  I dare say that we'll hear about the open door matches a week or two before they are played. And as mack said they are likely to be outside of Sydney.

So with NSW NPL1 on a bye weekend,  is there a closed door game on?

CCM playing Manly United in about 30 minutes.

Is this a satisfactory situation though or a cop out?    The Wanderers managed to play Blacktown City a season or two in the FFA Cup back without incident.

As much as I would prefer otherwise,  the club has suffered enough unwanted incidents at low key matches for me to understand their approach.

If I recall we ( the club ) had issues with fan behavior ( tifogate/flares etc ) and were under threat of fines or sanctions from the FFA. I'm presuming the club took the better safe than sorry attitude for pre-season games.....glad to corrected if this is wrong.

Thanks for the reply.  So the sensible fans suffer because of the past actions of a few morons who I thought had largely been eradicated anyway.

I wonder if there will be a time when the situation becomes normal again.

Hopefully the club's work on the return to Wanderland is as successful as we all would like, including the interaction between club, actives, security and police. If so, a return to situation normal should be a flow on result.
