  • Wanderers To Play At Olympic Park

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed playing matches at Sydney Olympic Park during the demolition and rebuilding of Parramatta Stadium.

While their home stadium is being rebuilt, the Wanderers have confirmed they will play approximately 8 matches at Spotless Stadium, with 4 matches at ANZ Stadium including both Sydney Derby matches. It is likely that matches against Melbourne Victory will be the other games to be played at ANZ, although it may include a match against NSW rivals in the Central Coast Mariners & Newcastle Jets.

The move will allow a much greater number of ticketed memberships to be sold, and also beckons a record breaking crowd for an A-League match with an expected Sydney Derby crowd over 55,000 patrons. The ANZ Stadium Twitter account has posted that the 2016/17 A-League season will be kicked off with a Sydney Derby match.

Parramatta Stadium is expected to take three Wanderers seasons to be built, with the new stadium opening sometime in 2019.

Derby in round 1 or 2 at least means esfc will bring some fans wait to round 7 next year and Arnie will be getting the sack when they have 5 points. ESFC couldn't even sell out their allocation to last year's grand finals remember, a big game for them means nothing if they think they are going to lose like then.

The positive for me is my work has offices 2 mins walk from the precint. Bring on some Friday night games - beers in office stumble to stadium.

Yes the view is going to suck, we will get over it. As others have said short term pain long term gain.

oh and reading FB was hilarious I couldn't resist i posted a meme of Big Arnie Schwaz from Kindergarden Cop - Stop Whining!

i often wonder if all those people commenting realise how stupid they are

Has the club given a guarantee that after the new stadium is built all home games will be played in Parramatta?

Doing that would give the club no leverage when it comes to negotiating their stadium deal

If you're in the bottom tier you won't be any higher than at Parramatta. The bottom tiers are a lot less steep as they go back than at Parramatta.

nah i am on one of the top rows of the stadium and its a nice view but i dont want to get any higher than that especially depending on how steep the stands are

On the #NoToANZ thing, I assume most if not all people who feel that way still do, I know I do. Problem is ANZ and Spotless are literally the only options we have until Parra is rebuilt, so it's the price we have to unfortunately pay if we want a new stadium.

    Exactly.

Belmore, Penrith & Campbelltown are too small for long term use. There simply isn't enough seats for all members - something the club didn't want to compromise on.

It's a few years of pain for a brand new house.

It's been mentioned the whole time.. I believe the majority of members that do complain about games being at Olympic Park have no effing idea about seating capacity and room to grow.

Exactly. I can't believe (well...I can actually), people wanted to permanently move to Riff or Campbelltown which hold the same or less than Parra. The reason we are getting a new stadium is to grow our fanbase. By playing at small stadiums for 3 years does not help that problem at all.

Also, Riff and Campbelltown are on the fringes of Sydney Metro. The reason we wanted Parra in the first place is because its central to all the areas of the west and easy to get to from all sides via road and public transport. SOP is the only location that is anywhere near this. At least that precinct is used to big crowds.

People are just self entitled wankers. Not just our fanbase, everyone these days. If something doesn't cater to them specifically they whine. Look at the bigger picture ffs.

The club did the survey for a reason, so that our voices are heard.

This is the result of the survey, this is what most people have voted for, this is the best outcome while the new stadium is being built.

The club have done well, we could not possibly ask for more...

When only 3,000 out of 18,000 members did the survey, they've only got themselves to blame that there voices weren't heard :nono:

The only people who could possibly be annoyed about the decision are those who live in Penrith and Campbeltown simply due to ease of access. I don't understand why anyone outside of those areas would have a problem.

    Will there be Wanderdogs?

If there is I'm sure they will be as elusive as they are at Wanderland....... but there will be Camel burgers.....  :woah:  :woah:  :woah:

At least if we draw Al Hilal in the ACL they won't criticise our corporate facilities....  :ninja:

People complain for the sake of complaining these days. I honestly don't think the club could have done any better than they did.

I saw a person on FB complain that we should play all our games at ANZ because there are transport issues getting to Spotless :nono:

He was being serious too. Several people kindly pointed out what an idiot he was...

Surely time to launch the Wollongong Rovers. Bigger stadiums don't equate to greater numbers only the potential. The Deby doesn't count since it's the A-League's version of State of Origin and those normally at the theater that night will attend just to say they have. There will however be acres of space to muse on 'the bigger picture'. Of course a lack of atmosphere vacuum could always be filled with pyro but then we have the pyro priest posse. Tsatsimas' only balancing act around 'stakeholders' is a return on investement and ensuring 'the match-day experience' translates to funds. Of course it is what it is but no-one is compelled to worship the accomplished fact and give up dreaming.

He would most likely have an ANZ stadium membership. Therefore, not having to get a club membership to watch games.

I voted for Belmore. I'm not happy with the results.

Young Melvin, you haven't been around for too long. Don't worry, it has been discussed at length & this was a smart decision by the club. Ticks all the boxes, 3 years of pain & we get a brand new stadium at the end of it.

will parras nightlife survive without us and the eels for the next few seasons?  It's not as busy as it was before after matches, no need to book venues to eat after a match.

Heard been suggested the RBB is looking at the possibilty of having the top tier for next season. Interesting times ahead, a change will be good to freshen us up and keep us hungry.

    heard theres kebabs at spotless:)

It's only for 2-3 years and then we will have the ground we deserve...will be still be a bit sad to have the last game at Parra tomorrow.

Funny thing is my two teams that I support are both moving grounds at the end of the season.

Yes let's all laugh at Melvin for voting for, what would have been, the only sensible outcome in all of this stadium debacle.

Belmore sits thousands of people and the infrastructure going to and from the stadium is fantastic.

Has anyone heard if members will be given dedicated seats in both stadiums? Or will they go with general admission for each type of membership into a specific area?

FFA dictate that all patrons including Active Support, must have a dedicated seat. Damn newbies

    Dedicated seats.

All the info you need is in the Club's release

If the FFA was a competent organization it would just divide up the standing area into little rectangles for people to stand in. Then shuffle people around based on height.

    But they're not.

Now when we go to Spotless stadium the players are going to look like ants and the ball will be hard to see for those of us with vision difficulties. But don't worry guys we get wicked tasting overpriced food (sarcasm intended)

    • fmd, Rudan is all about making apologies for what he’s already said or done. Why not get a leader who can lead in the first place instead of falling into the traps they set themselves by shooting their mouth off
    • Interesting sequence of events that probably doesn't happen very often.
    • Best shown by a chance Toure had when an Indonesian player had fallen over, he had a simple ball about 10 meters that would have put one of our attackers clean through for a one on one. He over-hit it and ruined the chance. Also falling for the same old Asian team diving & time wasting, by giving away stupid fouls to let them fall over and sit on the ground for minutes. 11 minutes stoppage time is probably half what it deserved.
