  • Wanderers To Play At Olympic Park

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed playing matches at Sydney Olympic Park during the demolition and rebuilding of Parramatta Stadium.

While their home stadium is being rebuilt, the Wanderers have confirmed they will play approximately 8 matches at Spotless Stadium, with 4 matches at ANZ Stadium including both Sydney Derby matches. It is likely that matches against Melbourne Victory will be the other games to be played at ANZ, although it may include a match against NSW rivals in the Central Coast Mariners & Newcastle Jets.

The move will allow a much greater number of ticketed memberships to be sold, and also beckons a record breaking crowd for an A-League match with an expected Sydney Derby crowd over 55,000 patrons. The ANZ Stadium Twitter account has posted that the 2016/17 A-League season will be kicked off with a Sydney Derby match.

Parramatta Stadium is expected to take three Wanderers seasons to be built, with the new stadium opening sometime in 2019.

There's a version of it on Daily Motion with sound

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2qv2e3

YouTube are karnts and muted the sound due to JayZ complaining about "Run This Town" for the away derby (best part of the vid).

So unfortunately all vids are on DailyMotion untouched - other than ads apparently every 5 minutes if you don't have an ad blocker.

For all 3 videos in a handy embedded webpage. Or just search for Panuccio Productions on DailyMotion.

Not being on YouTube severely affected the reach the Champions Of Asia video got, but thems the breaks when ContentID is automated and things get blocked despite challenging them under "Fair Use"

Logic suggests Spotless but I think the ACL matches will be played at ANZ.

The group stage is also during the easter show and I'm not sure how happy the AFC would be if their matches are played on a cow paddock literally.

Damn, 7k is going to look and sound very empty at ANZ.

But hey 100k goes to the club whenever you play at ANZ

That kind of moneyz was on the table prior to season 1, but they may not to willing to offer good $$$ for midweek events, which would be lucky to draw 10k thru the gates.

Monster Trucks scheduled for ANZ on 22nd October.

Assuming they need 1 week for preparations & at least 2 weeks for surface to recover, we won't be able to play there again until at least round 5 or 6.

Rounds 5-7 would be great. The season is underway, teams are playing better (better spectacle) and the narrative of the season adds extra spice.

WSW should of put in a claus that if the pitch isn't up to standard we get $$$compo,I can see us playing on pathetic pitch's.

Don't think they are offering 100k a game to play anymore unless they made a deal to have derbies to make it happen.

    Round 1 derby ffs FFA.

That doesn't suit FFA's agenda, they want headlines.

To achieve them, they need big crowds & ratings, which they can sight when negotiating the next TV rights deal

I read that we will be playing 5 games at ANZ. I guess that means 2 x Sydney and 2 x Victory but who else is big enough to attract a decent crowd there?

    Wellington

I've sat up there. I almost fell to my death several times walking to and from my seat.

lol that is scary, honestly i went to level 4 recently and had some anxiety and worry, i panicked a bit but for the most part it was a great experience, anything higher wouldnt be too much fun for me :P i have never been up there but it looks step as hell, like steeper than any other stadium i have seen maybe its just my imagination but it looks extremely steep
