Highlight: Risdon played in the Australian Asian Cup squad in the 2019 tournament. He suffered an injury in the first game and did not play again.
Description: A fast fullback who spent 7 years playing in Western Australia. He won several international caps while at the Wanderers and played 3 games at the 2018 World Cup. His time at the club was a marked disappointment with Risdon never reaching the heights expected of a starting international fullback. Both his season were marked by long absences caused by international games. An injury suffered in the 2019 Asian Cup recurred in his first game back, against Newcastle and he did not play any further games for the Wanderers. He moved to the new A-League club Western United in Geelong.

Great song. Not really sure what the connection to Risdon is, but I wholeheartedly approve.

Use the chorus, Risdon instead of Rasputin etc.

Risdon is a great fullback happy to have him at our club just hope he has learnt his lesson not to get nutmeged again by that sneaky Ninkovic in the derby that would really pee me off :xmad:

Has made it into the 23 man squad for the Syria play off’s. Happy for him but not so happy to lose a key player for the first match.

So it will either be Hamill or Baccus Jnr at RB against Perth

Risdon against Dembele of Barca, what could possibly go wrong?

In all seriousness he's looked good under BvM and it's great to have some WSW representation.

It's what he was like after a pre-season with Popa and that's how he got back into the NT.

From SMH.

Few migrant groups have provided more to the Socceroos than the Croatians and there is set to be one more in the national team very soon.

Fullback Josh Risdon is understood to be in the process of gaining his Croatian passport having applied on the grounds of his ancestry.

The Wanderers defender has Croatian heritage through his mother's side to the Balkan nation and has explored gaining his citizenship in hope of gaining a move to Europe.

With Croatia recently admitted into the European Union, a passport would open doors for Risdon to move freely to almost any club on the continent.

It's understood Risdon was close to sealing a move to a British club during the off-season but hadn't played enough games for Australia over the past two years to gain a work permit.

Should he be included in the Socceroos' squad for the Asian Cup, it's likely he will be free to play in the UK and Europe by the end of the season.

Supposedly Aston Villa are looking at Risdon (and smurf flog brandon o'neill) to join in January.

Pardon my ignorance, but what would be the pros and cons for the club if that deal went through?  Is there a transfer fee receivable?

From https://www.a-league.com.au/news/signing-news-risdon-becomes-western-melbourne-groups-first-australian-player

Caltex Socceroos defender Josh Risdon has become Western Melbourne Group's second signing and first Australian player.

Risdon penned terms on a two-year deal ahead of the club's maiden Hyundai A-League 2019/20 campaign.

The 26-year-old right back of 170 Hyundai A-League appearances has also emerged as key player for the national team, shining on the FIFA World Cup stage in Russia 2018, and earning 14 caps in total for the Caltex Socceroos.

The Western Sydney Wanderers man is the second player to join the newly-formed outfit following the signature of Greece international Panagiotis Kone earlier this month.

“I’m absolutely stoked to be the first Australian player to join Western Melbourne," he told the club's website.

"With the signing of Panagiotis as the marquee, I can see the club has big ambitions both on the park and off it.

“With their own boutique stadium being built, which I think is a great idea, the club has an exciting future.

“I’m a hard worker who understands that the fans in the west of Melbourne want players who’ll give absolutely 100% for the shirt. I can’t wait to start doing that."
