He was caught out three or so times on the match, however in the second half I remember he took a great jump and won a header, and then later on dribbled past three Jets players. So... he was hot/cold but still some stuff to work on - but yes, he had a great match.

Hot & cold sums up D'Apuzzo 100% spot on. Unfortunately his hot hasn't been often enough or indeed hot enough to warrant a lot of praise, whilst he has sometimes been so cold he's looked frozen in time/on the spot.

Yeah he was good, but you can tell he is being targeted as a weak spot in our defence.

The reason he is making so many mistakes is because he is under attack a lot more than Polenz.

Our stocks are pretty thin on the left, so not many options to combat it.

Can I get confirmation from the Adam naysayers that he had an outstanding match on Saturday? I gave him 2 points after Ante, who was immense, as ever.

If only he would deign to pound his chest with his fist, this thread would be so much more positive...

I would have said that were a fair few other players in front of him. Poljak, Bridge, Polenz, Haliti and Mooy were all better than him. Our defence in general was sound apart from a nervous opening. Adam just has to play his role. Not give the right sided winger any space or time and link up in attack when needed. Simple as that. He has to play like that week in, week out.

The best thing for WSW is the return to form of Matteo Poljak who was in everything (he was my man of the match). When he is playing well I notice the team is combining much better and the passes and build up seem to be more fluid. He helps out in both attack and defence (and I'm sure it is something Adam appreciates also).

I thought he improved on his last few performances and had a reasonably good game, so I gave him a point.

Yeah I agree. He played well.

All I'm saying is he's not a bad player, however he is clearly the weakest link in our back 4 which is mighty, so opposition teams try and isolate him as much as possible thus making it look like he "makes more mistakes" when in truth he is seeing more action and getting alot more chances to make mistakes. If you know what I mean.

I suppose you can assign Poljak to cover him and the channel but that opens up a hole in front of the CB's.

Lucky we have a guy like La-Rocca to cover Poljak so he can cover D'Apuzzo.

Yep gave him my 1 point as I thought covic was our saving grace in that first 20 minutes. But apart from that first 20, when I think as much blame should be put to bridge as well as d'apuzzo for not defending well together. After that he had a barnstormer of a game, winning tackles, headers, making passes and passing players. I say good performance, but we want more like that Adam not just the one off like we had this week. Good platform to move forward to start performing like that week in week out!

I thought he played his best game for the club tonight. Looked comfortable and did a good job in general.

Very good game indeed. He is in my 321's this week.

Apart from the 1st 15 mins, got ripped about 2-3 times in our box

Haha. I missed about the first 20 mins of the game as I had to rush from work. I'll take your word for it. But he was solid for the rest of the game.

What...no Zola explosion after last night?

Thanks for last season Adam, and here's hoping when Popa brings in a replacement LB you have a solid career wherever you go after that.

He had an ok first half better than he has been.  Not so great second.  Then again, you'd be hard pushed to pick who was more incompetent in the back four in the second half.  They were all awful.

NTS - Turned like a poorly manufactured spinning top for the second.

Polenz - Slow in the tackle  for the first and aimless crosses from deep in the main

Beauchamp - One slide tackle but otherwise is showing why Spira should be there now on a permanent basis

Adam D'Ap - As I said ok first half but gets out of position again in the second and does not inspire any confidence

I think d'apuzzo needs a rest he looks out of sorts

also Heffernan should be rewarded especially after what he did against victory

We should try

RB- Polenz

CB - beauchamp and spiranovic

LB- Heffernan

If we want to replace Adam with some one who is defensively stronger, then Heff probably isnt the way to go.

Maybe NTS can go on the left with Beauchamp and Spria in the centre or keep Spira and NTS in the centre and move La Rocca out of DM and put him on the left. Sure La Rocca isn't a natural left sided player (like Bridgey) but will probably provide better defensive cover than Heff. Also, that way we can have Poljak and Mooy as our DM pairing again (not to say La Rocca has been doing a bad job. He has been brilliant in his DM role). From memory I think La Rocca has played as LB in the past, can't remember how that worked out though. I'd like to see Heff play more as an LM (cover for Bridgey). See if he can provide some crosses in for Juric...

I've been advised that my cholesterol is rather high for a 21 year old. Don't want to tempt fate. At any rate, NOT HAPPY.

I hate to rag on any of our guys, so won't get too negative re D'Apuzzo. However an additional concern that has to be raised about him aside from his defence is his inability to provide penetration or quality assistance going forward. Time and time again this season he has been caught cutting into the centre when attacking, holding the ball too long and not looking as carefully or as intelligently at Bridge as say Polenz has been with Hersi. When one looks at how Traore (who is obviously the best LB in the A-League right now) or even the likes of Michael Zullo have more cut-through as attacking left backs, then again Adam needs to get back to a standard we know he has been capable of in the past.

I think the issues are related. Last season we had no need to push up the left side and all he had to do was be strong at the back. This season we've lacked penetration on that right side either from teams working us out or our own players being under par. He's had to try and have a more attacking mindset because of that but imo he's not that kind of player and because he's not he gets taken out of position defensively a lot more than last season.

I think Adam would probably be the first to say he hasn't had the greatest of seasons, but popa selects him in his first 11 so obviously thinks he is the best option?

Regardless he and everyone else that dons the red and black/white hoops of the famous Western Sydney Wanderers has my support 100%.

If whoever we get ISN'T better than Jerome Polenz, then guess what?! They will be targetted too. Adz gets too much criticism in my opinion, for that very reason. If I was coaching against WSW and I had to choose whether to press harder against JP or AD, it would be a no-brainer. Same decision when considering whether to launch counter attacks down the left or right.

If you want a quote to sum up Adam, then here it is:

"He is not as good as Jerome Polenz."

That's all well and good, but who will replace him if that happens?

if popovic actually wanted a better left back theres 1-2 available in the nswpl
