I think it was Von Rankhe who said that the proper job of a historian is to tell relay events as they actually happened. Sentiment should never come into consideration.

D'Appuzo is an average player come bad. Let's at least be honest about it.

**** me...first TSB comes in with a reference to Tantric Football then Zola returns service with a stunning riposte thanks to Von Rankhe. Loving the erudition of the folk here...now if someone can juxtapose Nietzsche's theory of the Ubermensch in relation to the performance of Polenz over the last season and a bit then I say give us all a University of Western Sydney Wanderers postgraduate degree and be done with it.

PS...Zola...I prefer the Thucydidean paradigm as laid out in his history of The Peloponnessian War

My Thucydides is hazy; is his history exclusively concerned with political affairs?

He has a mix of both political and military history in his work, and the most important aspect of his historiography is he tries to report only what he has seen and applies some degree of objectivity (nowhere near as clarified in vision as modern historians). Having said that he doesn't feel any reservations about re-wording historical speeches for rhetorical effect (such as his Funeral speech of Pericles and the famous Milesian dialgue).

Interesting. Reminds me of Cicero who had a tendency of writing; "..the speech might have gone something like this..."

Did a decent job last night, Adam. He concerned me before the match as the Heartless have some real speedsters (anyone else see the foot race between Shannon and Aziz or Adam and Gol Gol? Hilarious mismatches both) but he acquitted himself admirably.

I must have been watching a different game. He lost everything in the air, got turned numerous times by Mehbrahtu, and displayed atrocious positioning at times. Like the guy, but he's looking more and more like Carney.

Are you sure you didn't watch last years game? He was hopeless. Did not do 1 thing right. If there is one position we lack a decent player in, it is LB.

I haven't watched the replay yet, but I don't recall Heartless getting in behind our left back too often. Certainly no threatening crosses from there. Again, I am happy to return here after watching it sans-emotion, but on first view I thought he did a decent job dulling their penetration down the right.

Ok, so I just finished my cold, emotionless, mid-week review of the match and I can't say my opinion has altered. Gol Gol got in behind ONCE in the first half, Williams got in behind ONCE in the second half. Adam won (or forced a 50-50 from) about 75% of ball in the air. Many, many crucial "toes-in" covering hyphen and Spira. A couple of important fouls on halfway.

Not all good news, of course - Williams and Mebrahtu got in behind, for example and Adam was caught ball watching a couple of times with no consequence, but I really can't see where all the massive negativity is coming from.

We need a new left-back. Our system relies heavily on our wing backs and I just don't think he knows what to do when he's in the final third. Decent defender but we need more then that.

its a shame mate

Adam wasnt even anything special in the NSWPL, was an ordinary player.....

sad that bwe player Chris Tadrosse got over looked bloke has been the best left back for 3 seasons straight now, can also go forward and link up in the attack

im predicting d'puzzo will be back in the nswpl very soon...

If we ever sign Tadrosse he's going on my next shirt.

Most cult player ever for NQF, was a Fantasy A-League Special.

I think D'apuzzo should be a replacement at best. We need a strong left back. Most teams focus all their attacking play down his side and he just can't handle it

played soooo much better yesterday

played soooo much better yesterday

He played better in the second half because the team as a whole played better. He was being ripped to shreds in the first half. The other player who is starting to worry me a bit is Poljak who again didn't have the best game yesterday.

I think his biggest problem was that whoever was marking him, didn't let him bomb on unopposed (maybe golgol) and had him in his pocket everything time he tried to take him on! Defensively he was solid but nothing special and thought in attack he offered very little going forward.

There must be something he is doing right to keep cole from taking his place and whatever it is, popa has full confidence in him and his abilities.

He is there by virtue of the fact that Cole, and Heffernan are not remotely plausible options at LB. Nothing else.

Going back to the Wellington performance, I'd have to say the Heff isn't too far away from d'apuzzo in a defensive sense but not going forwards. I believe that cole can use both feet and was impressed with him playing in a forward position whilst Hersi was out and he takes out his defensive duties to the same level as d'apuzzo? No?

I find when Cole plays fullback he tends to get caught ball watching. Last season he played there a couple of times and we copped a few goals on the back post when Cole lost the guy he should have been marking.

As for D'Apuzzo I'm hoping that the Carney rumors swirling around will push him on and he'll have a big game against the Jets. I was worried his confidence would be shot after his disastrous cameo in Wellington but he didn't do too badly against a Heart side that targeted his wing.

Where I think D'Apuzzo has lost it is not so much in defence but in his attacking communication with Bridge. Last season they would work well together in our own half but were arguably better going forward. Right now Bridge is under-performing and D'Apuzzo is dragging down along him.

As for Carney as a possible replacement this will probably attract flak but yep, I'd sign him up and put him in fairly quickly if it was possible. I get the hate on him, I do, but for all his faults he is a class above D'Apuzzo. His biggest problem has been his manager and/or his own counsel has taken him on a career path that screwed him over. If he had been more like Mark Milligan he might now be more capable as a player and more tolerated by Aussie football fans in general.

gotta agree with u there manfred, carney would be a option at LB than d'appuzo but carney needs to get all his **** in order before he wears the red & black (if it is to happen).

is it me or does D'appuzo seem slower? always seems to be left for dead when chasin the ball into the corner when he's defending.

definetely needs to work on his passing & crossing, some of those crosses in the heart game were just hit & hope & were wasted opportunities.

got loads of faith in Adam, needs to get back to the form of last season & get some much needed confidence.

I would say that his pace is his biggest weakness along with his positioning. He would probably be more suited as a defensive midfielder where he would be in the nitty gritty of the action (he seems to play ok in tight spaces) and not be required to keep up with fast pacy wingers.

Can I get confirmation from the Adam naysayers that he had an outstanding match on Saturday? I gave him 2 points after Ante, who was immense, as ever.

If only he would deign to pound his chest with his fist, this thread would be so much more positive...

He had a good game but not brilliant. The worry has to be that the Jest made plenty of movement down that left flank particularly in the first half, plus I don't believe there was anywhere near the go-forward built on D'Apuzzo & Bridge as there was on Polenz & Hersi.

I don't believe that D'Apuzzo should be dropped from the starting line-up but he does need to keep improving. Like almost all of the team his 2013/14 has not lived up to the standards of 2012/13 so far.

he is our best left atm, so as long as he doesn't have bad games he should keep his spot. average to good games is what we need from him, and excellent games are just a bonus.

with rojas gone OS, the only winger i can see really making AD a witches hat is paul ifill, and we only play him once more.
