In honour of Ante I hereby request the 'he saves to the left, he saves to the right' chant be retired.

Good Idea but I'd prefer to go the other way and sing it in future seasons as a mark of respect and cementing Ante's 'Legend Status'
Or sing it if new keeper has a howler.

That'll do his confidence a lot of good...not!!!

Hehehe was a joke, I'm not that much of an arsehole ;)

As much as I dislike the notion: maybe the time is right to replace a coach/goalkeeper combo which, between the two of them, is 113 years old with a younger generation.

Covic to join Tyson at Glory......

Veteran goalkeeper Ante Covic is poised to sign a one-year deal with Perth Glory as coach Kenny Lowe looks to nail down a proven number one for next season.
.

Covic, whose release from Western Sydney Wanderers at the end of last season raised eyebrows in the wake of his AFC Champions League heroics, joins his former understudy, Jerrad Tyson, at nib Stadium with Glory moving swiftly to fill the gaps left by the departures of Danny Vukovic, to Melbourne Victory, and Jack Duncan to Danish club Randers.

Named the ACL's player of the tournament after the Wanderers' wonder run to become champion last November, Covic was one of 10 players released by the club at the end of its dire 2014-15 A-League campaign.

Still a commanding presence between the sticks – despite turning 40 on 13 June – Covic is expected to be Lowe’s top choice next season, assuming he can reproduce the performances which made him a fixture with the Wanderers for whom he made 78 appearances in three seasons.

It’s believed Lowe will be looking to lean heavily on the twice-capped former Socceroo's leadership qualities as he rebuilds a squad decimated by a raft of departures in the wake of Glory's salary cap saga.

Tyson, 25, played second fiddle to Covic for two seasons at Pirtek Stadium before his exit for a season-long stint with Hong Kong Premier League side Sun Pegasus.

Very glad for him that he continues to do what he loves.... but sad for us.  :sorry:

Will be very, very strange, and uncomfortable,  to see him play in opposition to us.

He shouldn't have had to play against us, but since he didn't get another year here I'm glad he got a contract with another club

Makes me wonder if JT was aware of this before signing, or if he thought he was coming across as the new number 1.

It'd be hilarious if the next announcement from the West was the signing of a certain venerable GK coach :ninja:

Tyson leaves the A-League to stop being number 2 to Covic.

Tyson returns to the A-League with a club that has no goalkeepers, making him the automatic number one.

New club signs Covic as number one...

:shockedtrifiro:

To be fair, Tyson left the A League because we didn't offer him a new contract, and Perth backed out of an offer to him at the last minute, leaving overseas or NPL the only choices. I'm sure if he'd been made an offer for S3 he'd have stuck around as Ante's understudy another year.

What's the story with this bloke, he has signed for Perth but no signs of him at the FFA cup and preseason?

I think he has been given time off until September. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is correct. I'd assume it has to do with giving Covic time to recover where he played/travelled so much in S2 & S3 from the physical & mental drain with all the travel plus matches, lack of break between seasons & his age. I think this makes a lot of sense from the players & clubs perspective where I feel the break will give him the rejuvenation he needs to keep playing for another 1 or 2 seasons if he wanted.

Don't know about fatigue. Ante is a pro. I'd say he negotiated terms which allow him to spend extra time with his kids in Sydney before he heads to the outer west. A bit risky though. By the time he arrives Tyson could have established himself as No 1.

If Covic starts for Perth against us and wins, that would be sweet for him.

Not really sure of what length of time constitutes a minimum preseason for GK's. However, seeing as he only started yesterday, 3 weeks sounds like a very short turnaround. He is likely to play, although it is not ideal for either Perth or St Ante to play such an important game so early in his preparation

Nah I'd think that he'd be fine, as he will have been keeping himself fit in his time off & will have some training under his belt by the time the match comes around. What would be the chances of them playing a warm up game in the next week or so determine his suitability for the starting spot? Pretty high I'd think.

Then you throw in the added factors of Tyson suspended, young keeper in a big game is not ideal & Covic will be wanting to prove to himself, kenny & whoever was part of the decision to let him go at WSW that he is good enough to remain as number one keeper for the 15/16 season.

You can bet that last one would be a driving factor in the next few weeks that will make him want to play in that game even if he is a little under done in terms of preparation.
