Poor guy got subbed on at half time and off before full time. That's gotta suck!

Didn't get a high five or anything from Popa either. Got completely blanked.

Surely taking him off was a ploy to waste any remaining stoppage time.

That was my thoughts when he got subbed. Just his ans Popas reaction or lack of, I thought seemed harsh if he was subbed for poor performance.

I thought it was the right move to take him off as we need taller players to hold the lead with a couple of minutes to go.

Also I did notice he wasn't in the post match celebration with the other wanderers players...

Maybe he is injured?!

I thought he played REALLY well tonight, his passes connected and defended Mooy really well.

I was too busy celebrating after the final whistle to notice if he was with the team as they went around the stadium. Does anyone know if he went straight down the tunnel?? We already lost Poljak, the last thing we need is another injury!

I think what we saw last night is the attitude of popa towards his most long term and trusted players.  I think there is definetly a popa, good friends (cros) and the others groups

After the final whistle i looked straight over to Popa to see his reaction, and saw Trifiro walk straight down the tunnel.

Won't be long before he asks to leave and maybe join his brother at CCM.

Trifiro did a good job - he played the ball reasonably well, and marked Mooy alright - there were several times I saw him cutting passing lanes by following Mooy into the box. Yes there were times when Mooy broke free but hey, Trifiro is a midfielder not a defencive midfielder by trade.

Plus, I'm not sure about this whole sub thing - I thought he was subbed off because we needed to help defend the lead and waste time, so Popa put Gallaway on. Although the question is why he didn't take Takahagi off or something... but yeah. Was a bit weird but it wasted time which is what we wanted I guess?

He had some good touches and gave a bit of control to the midfield but could not handle one of the slowest players... Mooy.

Mooy beasted him too many times, muscled him off the ball at will but it was a good battle to watch.

****, that sounds really bad. I can understand his frustrations too. Last season he was playing a bit of aleague & most of one of our ACL games (group stage) but since the end of S2 hasn't seen on the pitch. It would feel a massive slap in the face if I had played a pretty decent 45 minutes after coming on at half time & then get substituted off (even though it was purely throw a defender on the pitch & waste a bit of time). Not great for team dynamics when this happens.

On Trifiro, at least he is able to play a deeper lying role, someone like Kalmar doesn't have the engine to play deeper which is why Popa has used him higher up the field all but once since he signed.

I never understood the Trifiro hate. He's a depth player in midfield and in that role he does a good job, better than most teams 3rd/4th choice midfielders.

As a holding midfirlder his key jobs are maintaing possession and breaking down opposition attacks. In last night's game our team's passing accuracy was 68% and Trifiro's was 84%. Our team's tackling success rate 41% and Trifiro's was 67%. For comparison Takahagi's passing accuracy was 76% and his tackling success rate was 33%.

Obviously stats don't paint the whole picture but they count for something.

Jason was hooked for losing possession unnecessarily & gifting Heartless a goal scoring opportunity, whilst we were attempting to defend a lead.

Only member of the coaching staff to acknowledge him when he was subbed was Addie Waterson.

He departed the field straight after the final whistle & didn't celebrate the victory with his teammates or fans.

Don't buy it was to put an extra defender on the field, someone to just make sure the victory was secured & to waste a few extra seconds at the end of the game? Or was this from your view behind the bench & what was said between Popa & his staff?

He's already free to find a new club.

For the fourth season running he'll probably be allowed to go if he finds another club, and might get another 1 year extension if Popa feels the younger midfielders aren't capable enough to replace him just yet.

Seems like a model professional, he just doesn't do anything except fill a gap in the roster as our 2nd last choice midfielder.

he had a great match tonight imo

Thought it was middling. Certainly no worse than his midfield compadre Kalmar. Worked hard, occasionally got away a good pass or got in a good tackle. It was a workmanlike performance overall from a squaddie who would hardly get a look in if the best and brightest were fit and available.

Totally agree there. He's been extremely useful whilst we've had ACL campaigns running alongside A League. With no ACL next season is there realistically a place for him in the squad?

love this guy. he's like mark bridge except for all the differences.

I disagree. I think Jason Trifiro is the same as Mark Bridge including the differences...

And a far better source of icons... :stonedtrifiro:

Its about time Trifiro is in the ex Wanderers thread. Absolutely useless player. A player who makes Travis Major ex-Mariner look like a superstar. Couldnt be happier with his release. About time too.

this is the biggest contribution he made.
