Popa is pretty ruthless. I don't think the guy (Bulut) fits in with the way the team is set up. But fmd why sign him on a two year contract? I don't think he'll do much at any other club. Might score a few goals and that's about it. But this is his livelihood. So he'll go wherever.

Whilst I agree with the above sentiment, can you explain why Sotirio keeps getting a gig?

Attitude is everything. We've known this for 4 years. Every player that has ever played for WSW states that Popa is ruthless at training and expects 110%. Nothing less.

Some players thrive under that pressure (see: Nico this season).

I believe Bulut was a bit of column A & a bit of column B. Bulut was given plenty of opportunities but he didn't play like he did the first time around. Maybe the hype didn't help but he seems to have reverted to the form prior to his first stint at WSW. I also find it all very interesting to see how badly things have gone since Bulut did that interview in the newspaper where he praised his relationship with Popa. I wonder whether he still shares that same opinion.

With no salary cap players like Sotirio or Baccus would only get opportunities in the youth team but this is not possible in the current climate.

plenty of people here have explained it, or at least given a decent theory - so either they haven't explained it well enough, or you've never met any of those people on the forum who have explained it #technicality

Sotirio is a youth product squaddie on minimum wage who does what the boss wants.

It's not his fault he is getting game time with the first team because the squad is so thin he is the 4th attacking option in midfield.

If we had recruited properly, and he was the 6th attacking option in midfield like a youth product squaddie should be, then he'd be suited up in the stands every week and we'd only see him during ACL time.

Sotirio is the best at training, he picks up popas laundry and kids from school.

Name one other club who would get all the players together and say you and you and you are staying, the rest of you are out the door.

The over arching principle is for players to give their best. Popa has been saying several times that this is all the coaches ask from the players. Pio, Saba and Adeleke stumbled over that hurdle while Santa, Sotirio or Nichols embody Popa's philisophy.

Players got cut because they didn't fit in with Popa's ideas about style of play. There can be no doubt that Jamo/Clisby and Neville are very different FBs than Mullen, Golec (or Cole for that matter).

We saw a lot of players departing because of $$$. And then there were those who just weren't good enough. Appiah comes to mind. And Bulut.

Its a very grey area. For a start I don't claim to know everything, but it is amazing to me the amount of people on here who have "inside knowledge" of what goes on. We don't know what fully goes on and if we did I am sure we would be shocked. This is coming from both sides mind you. Do I agree with bullying and intimidating players or getting them to train on their own. No. Is this an acceptable form of work place relations at any workplace. I wouldn't think so. Is it reasonable to expect players who have travelled thousands of kilometres on a plane, suffering jeg lag  and risk injury to immediately front up to training. No I don't think it is. Sure Popa is the boss and he rules with an iron fist and its his way or the highway, still doesn't make it anymore right. At the end of the day this is how he chooses to run the operation, I think some of his training methods and tactics of intimidation are bordering on insanity, but hey that's me. If I was a talented footballer in the A-league, I don't think I would play for him.

Bit late in on this convo, and a few pages back I was trying to argue for some understanding (not excusing) for KB. However having seen him on last Sunday night at the NYL game versus Newy and seen him contribute SFA, I can definitively say he's cooked...buggered...stuffed...gone.

Whether he has reached this stage because of his own problems and inadequacies, or because of failing to respond to a harsh, arguably discriminatory training regime...fooked if I know. However he can't hide from the ramifications of not delivering what the club needed, or as did St Dino (Blessed be his Back Heel) demonstrate his importance without said goals by playing a vital role in our system. His return in red and black has been a failure sadly, and it looks like he will be on the fast track to football irrelevance.

Damn shame for him, for the club and for us.

I for one believed he offered more to our club than on field performance which I trusted with time would be forthcoming. In isolation Bulut's banishment might make sense but in the context of a struggling squad and others who have been given a blank cheque to "find their potential" I dunno. Toeing the line and being part of a ruthlessly disciplined unit might be an argument but game time we have rarely been such especially in defence. Some of those mentioned who have thrived under Popa have also been seriously talented units and right now after Santa's red card Xmas present we're left with kids in the kitchen. Other than that I agree with Lloydy.
