or buy him as they won't reloan him if he becomes one of the best in the league and they will sell or use him.

 

To be honest, if Olympiakos do sell him there will be interest from other European clubs I should imagine. He just screams quality, you can just tell his first touch puts him above what else is in the A League. Best to just sit back and appreciate him whilst he is here because he is a top player at a peak in his game and as such is a rare commodity in this comp prob not seen at WSW since Ono, as mentioned above.

Deserves to have more turn out week in week out to watch him.

Let's enjoy him while we can. He is a pleasure to watch.

Yep. They make a lot of money selling players. I agree with the best we can hope for is a loan extension for 12 mths. It might just be possible but we'd be paying his full wage this time and probably a rental but that's life. On this subject it would be in our best interests to stay on good terms with Olympiakos as they carry a big squad.

Absolutely agree!  I said in another thread a couple of weeks ago he is the highest quality and amongst the best in A League. Mack said anyone who thought Nico is in top 5 or so is looking through red and black glasses.  Disagree Mack, Nico is class above.

We have the money to pay a transfer fee and secure Nico on a long term deal so let's do it.

No matter, Nico is class.

JT & Ledderer have to jump and get a full transfer and lock him up for at least 2 if not 3years.

I can only dream what he will be like next year with a full season under his belt.

Nicolas Martinez was dismayed at the high training loads at Western Sydney when he first arrived, but the Wanderers' marquee says the unprecedented work-rate is behind his impressive recent performances in the A-League, including his man-of-the-match role in the club's 4-1 win over Central Coast Mariners with only 10 men.  

The Argentinian was scintillating at Central Coast Stadium on Saturday, scoring a powerful header and providing another assist as the Wanderers broke their six-game winless streak in emphatic fashion.

Martinez was a constant threat as the architect of the Wanderers attack, whether it was his incisive passing as he pulled the strings in the final third or his instinctive first touch that turned possession into raids on goal. There's a sense the 29-year-old is close to his peak condition after missing the bulk of pre-season but Martinez revealed it wasn't a smooth road back to fitness. 

He was initially frustrated with the high work-rate and strict training regime demanded at Western Sydney that was well beyond standards set at clubs in Europe and South America. Whether it was daily weigh-ins or gruelling sessions in the Sydney summer, it eventually worked and Martinez says getting out of his comfort zone is the reason he's emerging as the most exciting player in the competition.

"I feel the difference between when I arrived from when I played in other leagues and the fitness I achieved here is amazing because you work much harder and every week you improve. I can make 90 minutes where as other times I would drop in the second half but now I feel good," he said. "I'm trying to be better every day and this is why I came here, to work, to achieve the best moment in my career here."

The attacking midfielder was substituted five minutes before full-time and revealed he had to play the majority of the second half through the pain barrier after suffering a minor knock. He continued to threaten as the Wanderers were forced to play the final 30 minutes a man down once Jerrad Tyson was sent-off for a reckless challenge.

"I was a little bit tired but it's normal. When you work hard you always play with pain," Martinez said. "Soreness, it's normal when you work hard but it doesn't matter if you are good, your mind is good you can play 90 minutes and it's not a problem."

Great Nico is buying in to what Popa does and how he does it, going to be a great player for the rest of this season.

Surely WSW put in a transfer fee clause as part of the loan.

If you consider his income and contract duration, the transfer sum would have to be substantial. Can't see that happen.

Plus, I think Nico is enjoying his time here and will give 100% whilst he is here....but I reckon he will see his longer term future back in Europe anyway. Can't see us getting him any longer than this loan spell.
