Players will be appearing at Westfield Parramatta and the Wanderers store at Westfield North Rocks from 3pm on Saturday 4 October. For one hour the players will be chatting to fans, signing autographs and posing for photos in front of the WanderWall.

Poor game tonight, nearly gave up two goals.

Nearly played Carney back into NT calcs.. made him look like a superstar.

Has looked more comfortable on the right than on the left in recent games. I wonder why didn't one of Adeleke or Golec play today.

Have to echo these sentiments, didn't like him moving forward or in defence. I know Carney is a wily character but the amount of times he dived in, missing ball/player and let carney through was really concerning. We can't criticise Golec for been below par but then let Cole have a free ride either. Our back ups to Adeleke need to step up there games if we want to be competitive against the top teams and/or be there at the pointy end of the season.

If there is one man who seems to have typified the problems of our season since the ACL win it's been Shannon. I won't go in as hard on him as others have but he has had a combo of form lapses and sheer unadulterated bad luck (especially the pen given against him at the CWC) that have utterly overshadowed his record before these matches. Let's not forget he was there with some wonderful cameos during the ACL games, including the goal celebrated above in Nath's post. Then there was some solid runs last season (goaled against Newy from memory I think), and then there was that dead ball hammer shot he took to help level our last derby game of season one. Throw in his involvement in the pay dispute (which must've been more time consuming and stressful than anyone without a union rep's experience would be ignorant of), and the bottomline being his place as a utility player, well he's just had that rough run that sometimes happens to the best of them.

It must be said that in some ways he has been just as much a victim of the problems of the club's making as a generator of bad results. If we had more stable and effective LB or RBs he would not be needed to be there as much as he needs to be. With Adeleke and Mullen hardly being convincing he's been needed time and time again this season, and the same can be said of Golec as well. Throw in the injuries to Castelen, Gologol and the lack of quality from Kubi is it any wonder that Shannon's been pushed up as a stop gap on the RAM and hardly set the world on fire?

I'm not going to exonerate him from some of his stuff ups however his story since Riyadh is one replicated all over the park in almost all positions, and I still believe he has qualities as an honest toiling squaddie that deserve respect.

Again...can anyone offer up consistently better and fit players in those positions he has been asked to play, who have been available for most if not all games? Adeleke? Mullen? Kwabena? Golgol? Alessi? Golec?

Right now instead of directing any anger at Shannon how about we pose some simple questions of the management/ownership group of the club? Why is it that a player who 2 seasons ago was a bit-part utility player in a start-up squad that went on to claim the premiers' plate is now one of the integral members of the first XI picked week-in, week-out? Have our recruitment and retention policies been so efficient and his growth as a player been such that Popa feels it impossible to leave him out  because of these reasons? Or is it because when all is said and done we have an exhausted squad with several players that are not up to our expected standards, and Shannon is having to pull multiple duties in a way he is either physically, mentally or perhaps even talent-wise not up to the current requisite needs?

If Adeleke and Mullen were so bloody good we wouldn't be having this conversation about Shannon.

Manfred, you are right. The recruiting was quite unfortunate, the ACL and CWC came at a price, and here we are. Cole is not the problem, he just happens to be the poor sod who somehow ended up carrying the can. He really seems to need a break, so give the guy a break.

I can't help but feel that if Cole was a bigger frame (with all other attributes remaining equal) his game wouldn't of been so noticeable.

Cole didn't give up the fight last night, unfortunately sometimes the size of the fighter means more than the size of the fight in the man.

Consistency amongst the squad is something we're yet to see, and Cole may well have been a victim of the club.

Yeah agree with all you guys and said something similar in match thread. Cole is a great squaddie. Plays multiple positions, good team man, good in the community etc. He has limitations and gets skinned by nimble attackers (even back in first season I remember halloran torching him) but doesn't deserve what he has copped recently. The fact that he was the first one over there trying to calm the situation says a lot about his character imo.

To me he always gives you his best effort and squeezes the most out of the ability that he has. The fault here as others have mentioned is with management/recruitment. If we hadn't ridiculously low balled polenz this discussion would not be taking place at all.

cole has my 100% support.

Cole was treated like **** by ESFC fans. Yeah he was average last night but he still pulled on our shirt and did his best. He needs to be supported, has been great for us.

Looking at the stats from last night's game he went up for 5 aerial duals (all against Duke and Simon) and lost 4 of them. He also attempted 10 tackles and had 2 successful, 6 failed and 2 fouls. Half of those were against Duke.
