Probably not in the money stakes. But in regard to quality of life and a strong team, we'd be very competitive.

Excellent article for once, I hope we can re-sign him as soon as possible, he is a cool headed guy which helps the others within the team follow his suite!

After Shinji signs it's time to get Kresinger to autograph that contract extension paper!

excellent news for us and the a league in general. Del Piero also seems to be resigning so all the marquees are keen to stay

looks like its not all set and done with ono from the latest article from TWG. Maybe onos agent wants a longer contract than 2 years or more cash, i think onos deal was done for half a mill if im correct. Hope it gets finalised but also looks like Lyle doesn't want to break the bank to resign him

If reports of 3x salary in china are correct (and id believe it based on stupid $$ they pay there) this guy's loyalty is a lesson for all as to play where you enjoy it not just for coin... hearing me Luca$h Neill?

Still its a tough decision to make. What would you do if someone tripled your pay to do the same job somewhere else. God I hope we can keep but would we seriously blame him if he decided to go somewhere else. Damn Chinese clubs.

he probably wants 600,000 like hersi getting as that would be fair  as hersi probably rubs it in that he gets 100,000more as he is a cheeky character

wow is hersi on 600 000, i never would of guessed. Was this with the upgrade deal or was this the initial contract cause that would mean he would of  been our main marquee signing.

HE scored the goal that took Western Sydney to the brink of topping the A-League, and now Japanese star Shinji Ono is poised to sign a deal to keep him in Australia next season.

Both Ono's management and the Wanderers are confident a new deal will happen shortly, despite the $2 million offer from China still being on the table.

Ono's goal proved to be the winner in Saturday night's pulsating clash against Melbourne Victory, and opened up a five-point gap between the teams in second and third.

With players and staff on a day off today, talks between the club and Ono's advisers will continue later in the week.

Though Wanderers chairman Lyall Gorman yesterday cautioned that there is "no rush to get this completed", it's believed both sides view a deal as "when, not if".

The Wanderers' initial offer of a similar sum to this season - $500,000 - has been raised to nearer three-quarters of a million dollars. Side issues such as marketing agreements and how long Ono is allowed to return home to see his family in Japan are still to be finalised.

Ono has told the club he wants to stay for another season, subject to terms being agreed, having found a level of fitness that had eluded him for several years.

I don't know if Australian Visa laws would prevent Ono from a second income, but what most other sports do with their star athletes is getting them to become involved with their advertising or work on their respective television networks. Ben Barba just signed a deal with Telstra to become involved with their marketing campaign for the NRL and Aboriginals in Sport.

I could picture Shinji Ono working with Tourism Australia in a marketing campaign for Japanese tourists. I'm sure FFA and the government would be able to arrange something like this for Shinji.

I like it RobDog. Thinking outside the box for options but I expect next season to be locked in based on that report. We could plan for this option the season after :)

Quiet's probably not too bad. When there's lot's of posturing in the media between the club and the player's agent it's usually a sign the negotiations aren't going well. Silence probably means everything's going smoothly.

argghh   we need some shinji signing news, its been far too quiet for my liking

I agree, i hope it all goes well

just getting nervous, on one hand if there is no news from the agent or the club I feel they are talking well and not needing to play games, but then I get nervous and think, maybe he doesn't want to announce he is going to china until seasons end.....   :sorry:
