"I'm a No.10. But I play as a winger here and I have no problem with that because I want to help."

What? Never would have thought he was a 10, i reckon he would be wasted in a playmaker roll. Speed is one of his main weapons which really suits him as a winger.

Hersi is such a good winger that we have never considered him as a 10 , but I think he would be the best no 10 at the club . We will not see him there as Ono can only play no 10 and hersi has been too effective as a winger .

Ono only really started playing as a #10 last couple of years. He used to play more of a CM or DM role when he was younger and faster.

The problem with older marquee midfielders is they can only play the 10 and it reduces the flexibility of the team . We will never know if hersi would have excelled in that role , it could have changed the way we played from day one.

I still haven't heard anything about Hersi wanting ridiculous money. If you look all through out what has been said, all he has asked for is a 2 year deal. Considering he is one of our best players I cant see anything wrong with that. When we sign a player like Bridge on a multi year deal and not someone like Hersi, I just shake my head and go why. Considering how good is for the side and what he brings, he should be our 2nd or 3rd highest paid player. If the club doesn't want to sign him for 2 years then what do you want him to do. He would do what anyone else would do, he would sign for a club that gives him that security. If its good enough to sign Bridge for a long term deal it should be good enough for Hersi.

At the end of the day negotiations are still ongoing. No one can hate on Hersi wanting to stay at the club on a long term deal. If you were a foreigner working in another country would you like to have the security of a 1 year deal or a 2 year deal, especially if you like your working environment. Its a no brainer. I just have this feeling that if Hersi doesn't sign for us, he is going to get absolutely vilified especially if he joins SFC. Lets hope the club and Hersi can come to an agreement  because I certainly want him here, especially more than 1 year.

Everyone needs to stop comparing signings. Each one a different circumstance. Bridgey signed for Bridgey's deal, Jase signed for, yup, you guessed it, Jase's deal. I agree with everyone on here that it would be great to have Hersi for the rest of his career and I am CERTAIN that Popa would have him, as long as the deal is suitable for WSW.

I know it's the telegraph but if he's demanding 500k, I wouldn't be giving it to him

because of the salary cap i wouldnt offer any player more than $300K,

obviously excluding foreign marquee player, australian marquee, and U23 aussie marquee players.

Here's a crazy thought, why don't we sign hersi as our marquee player for next season?

imo not at the level a marquee should be

I agree Kizza, especially as he is getting on in years. Defenders have started to work out his game now.

Riquelme type no#10 would be ideal.

Dazzler ... Wanderers star Youssouf Hersi (Getty)

Youssouf Hersi could be set to return to the Netherlands next season with mid-table Eredivisie side Utrecht expressing strong interest in the Western Sydney Wanderers flier.

Wanderers confirm Golec dealWanderers confident against high-flying RoarWanderers don't regret letting Ono go

Out of contract at the end of May and with no new offer as yet on the table from the Wanderers, the 31-year-old's eye-catching form has won many admirers - not least in his adopted homeland, according to sources in the Netherlands.

The Ethiopian-Dutchman spoke earlier this season of his desire to remain with WSW but Utrecht entering the fray could be a game-changer for Hersi, who has also been tracked by Newcastle Jets among others amid continuing uncertainty over his future.

Utrecht is already home to Australians Tommy Oar and Adam Sarota while Adelaide United's Michael Zullo also remains on its books.

Hersi's list of credits in the Eredivisie is already long - he has played for six Dutch clubs including Nac Breda, NEC, Vitesse Arnhem and Twente Enschede.

While Hersi is said to be relaxed over his future and content to keep his options open, WSW chairman Lyall Gorman said there had been no official approach from Utrecht.

Though he did not rule out informal contact.

"We have not been contacted directly by Utecht but that does not mean something informal has transpired," he said.

"Youssouf is on a year-to-year contract with us and discussions have been on-going (over his future).

"We are continually assessing the situation with all players coming off contract, whether it's Youssouf, Jerome Polenz or anybody else.

"Youssouf has been excellent for us - he's a great player and a crowd-pleaser.

"But our main focus is on on-field matters right now with the AFC Champions League to prepare for as well as pushing hard for the A-League title."

Gorman also confirmed the looming exit of 23-year-old midfielder Aaron Mooy who is on his way to Melbourne Heart next season.

Asked whether Mooy's exit had been sealed by a breakdown in negotiations over the terms of a new contract offer, he replied: "Fundamentally that's the case. We couldn't come to an agreement and this is football sometimes and you just have to move on.

"We fully back our processes and the judgment of our coach Tony Popovic in these matters. The player himself has his own reasons (for leaving) and those are private matters for him and we respect that."

"I will tell you one day but now is not the time to tell because we have a big few weeks coming up and if the right time is there I will tell you."

Certainly suggests he's not resigned with WSW...

Sad to see him go (if it happens), but I agree with Popa's decision. Too old/injury prone for the money he wants.

So, if he's not re-signing with us, and he's bagged Sydney's fans, so maybe rule them out.

Perth, Heart and Newcastle would be my picks.

Adelaide/Brisbane/Wellington don't really need him.

Yup if that quote is true Hersi is as good as gone, if he was resigning it wouldn't make any sense to delay it for that reason.

Top player absolutely love the guy but i don't believe him to be good enough to be a marquee player with the type of money that he has commanded. I'm optimistic and looking forward to watching our rebuild next season, lost a lot of key players but i've got more then enough confident in Popa to replace them with class players. He did it when we first come into the comp and were virtually looking for leftovers, so the thought of recruiting with a desirable reputation now its pretty damn good.

I suspect that if he has gone then the most likely candidate for the A-League club to pick him up would be Perth (for no other reason than they probably will apply a quick fix no matter the cost), or Newcastle. The Jets are likely IMO as I think he has got some solid friendships down this way and I wonder if he would be willing to go too far away whilst staying in Oz.

Having said that I wonder if perhaps a CSL or Middle Eastern league team has gone for him. They would certainly be cashed up and probably not as concerned over YH's age and maybe fitness.

Feels kinda ordinary to start up my laptop with the WSW wallpaper with Bridgey, Shinji, Meggsy, Youssouf and Aaron featured and thinking at least 3 are probably gone for 2014/15. Oh well, I hope this means that money's been freed up for keeping Jerome.

Does the sale of the club have impact on our signings or re-signings?
Are we trying to pay less for players which means less overheads, meaning a more attractive sale price?
