Hersi started the pre-season slowly but with more match fitness and time to adjust to the league he become one of the key performers for the Wanderers in their inaugural season. His absence from the Wanderers squad is an immediate boost to the opposition. His second season was less of an impact in terms of goals scored, but he was still a key player in attack. He left the club after 2013/14 to join Perth Glory.

Probably my first favourite Wanderer, initially thanks to his being ex-Heerenveen and then his absolute terrier-ness last season especially. Loved his work with Polenz. If Polenz is staying and Popa is looking for a new winger I hope he gets the new bloke in a room with Jerome to make sure they're going to get on.

Polenz is gone

Sorry to see Youssouf go, and without doubt one of the most important members of the squad during the last two seasons. However I look forward to seeing a replacement come in and offer something new, different and maybe even more effective. And if, as seems to be the popular theory that he is going to the Glory, they better realise what an immense talent and passionate team man they will be getting.

Thanks Hersi...loved your work digger!

Totally agree Manfred and his built in replacement of Apiah has learnt from a great teacher. i'm confident with some experience under his belt and some softer first touch options I believe he will be more than capable to fill the massive clogs Youssouf has left behind, with less Yellow/Red cards.

Any word on Mebrahtu and Tahj's injuries? Might inform whether or not Popa feels the need to replace given Appiah's improvement (although he's not there yet). Tahj may also not be given a contract.

We need a match winner there. Kubi aint it.. yet.

I think we have to recruit for there & #10.

As seen at the open training day Tahj was moving fine and suspect he is close to returning as a potential player (though of course too late for anything this season). Golgol was walking around unrestricted but no sign of him involved in anything strenuous.

seeing plenty of people posting that they are not to disappointed to see him leave, and he'll be easily replaced.

think they are forgetting just how important he has been to us for 2 seasons. sure, he went through a stage this year where he wasn't at his best (probably around contract negotiations, and figuring out where he would be playing), but his right side combination with Polenz is BY FAR the best in the league.

Kubi may well get there in 5 years time, but he is a long long long way from being the match winner Hersi is right now.

I'm going to the Perth next season, and when Perth come here I'm sure he'll be treated by fans the right way.

"But that was not the way at Western Sydney – they think only about themselves. That's the past now and I am concentrating on the future now in Perth.

This is the kind of toxic we don't want to see the board to become. We're still 2 years young and much to build on. With limitation of salary cap, we are likely to have players like Hersi, Polenz, Ono leaving after a good season or two.

Other than that, our other goals should not be neglected at all while pursuing success. That is bringing up local talents through the rank.

Being an older player he was becoming injury prone and taking longer to recover. He was only ever going to get single year contracts unless someone wanted to entice him to move.

and yes Youssouf, it is all about WSW, no player is bigger than the club

If he cares about himself more than the club he'll do great at Glory, a club full of useless shifters who stay on the field because they are mates with the boss, not because they are performing.

If 'proving himself" was a big deal, then why was getting a one year deal disrespectful, if he wanted to stay he should have accepted the deal and then proven he deserved another contract the year after.

Personally I think it's just a smokescreen for not getting as much money.

Contrast this comment of Hersi's (and Polenz's post-season swipe) with Beauchamp's "that's football, I guess *sigh*"

Pretty clear why Meggsy was foundation captain - that guy has class.

We might be biased here, but this just makes Hersi look like he chased the money. I don't blame him at this stage of his career, but surely there are better ways to express it (although probably I should cut him some slack given English isn't his first language...)
