    Newcastle Jets 2 – Melbourne Victory 1

Emile Heskey scored a brace, including an overhead kick to put the Newcastle Jets equal top of the league after their 2-1 victory against the Melbourne Victory. In the first minute Rojas was clean on goal but couldn't find his way past Birighitti. After 25 minutes an idiotic defensive play by Adrian Leijer, who shoulder-charged Kantarovski just outside the box to earn a yellow card. A defensive error at the other end let Rojas cutback to Thompson but Birighitti made a good save with his feet. The Victory had chance after chance in the first half but couldn't put one away.

After Gary Van Egmond gave his team a half-time hairdryer, they came out much better. Heskey got onto the end of a deflected cross and a neat volley finish put the home team in front. Victory nearly hit back immediately but Birighitti again saved Rojas' attempted chip. Heskey got his brace as he scored an overhead kick after scrappy defensive work at a corner. Thompson finally scored for Victory when Thiago shanked a clearance directly into his path. Neither team could score again and the home supporters left Hunter Stadium happy.

    Adelaide United 3 - Wellington Phoenix 1

Jeronimo Neumann scored a brace either side of a strike by left back Cassio to give Adelaide top spot on the ladder but the result of this match was massively overshadowed by two extremely controversial moments in the second half. Wellington scored first with Belgian import Stein Huysegems scoring the first goal just before half-time when Ifill cut the Adelaide defence apart with an incisive through ball.

Adelaide equalised 10 minuets after the break when a defensive scramble by Wellington resulted in a ricochet that fell perfectly to the feet of Jeronimo who mad no mistake. The first controversy erupted when Cassio made a surging run before playing a 1-2 pass with Jeronimo and the Brazilian scored off his natural left foot. Replays showed Jeronimo was clearly offside when the ball was played to him and the goal should not have stood. The second incident blew the game wide open when Jeronimo, after being put through on goal, was lightly brushed by Wellington's Ben Sigmund. Jeronimo continued his run for several strides before he realised the ball would run through to the keeper, at which point he fell to the ground appealing for a foul. The referee was hoodwinked and handed out a red card. The rout was completed by Jeronimo in the 85th minute to leave Wellington fuming. Captain Andrew Durante and Ricki Herbert both gave the officials an almighty spray in the post match media and investigations will continue and punishments perhaps to be handed out by the match review panel.

Brisbane Roar 0 - Western Sydney Wanderers 1

A full report is listed here. The Western Sydney Wanderers scored their first ever goal and it was enough to give them their first ever victory against the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium. After nearly 300 minutes of play Mark Bridge got onto the end of a Youssouf Hersi cross via a short corner to head the ball home to give the visitors the lead. Brisbane were steamrolled by the Wanderers high pressure and incredibly work rate and had no answerers in the first half. Only a handful of chances fell to the Roar, the best being Nicholls hitting the far post after Topor-Stanley made a defensive error allowing Hingert to tap the ball back into the path of the Brisbane midfielder.

The second half was much of the same, Brisbane having a handful of chances but the Wanderers dominating the best chances. The Wanderers dug in deep while in defence and gave no time or space for Broich or Berisha to operate in. The nullified Brisbane attack had no plan B or plan C and were very lucky not to concede more than the solitary goal from Bridge. The Wanderers were the highest priced outsides in the history of the A-League but multitudes of Wanderers supporters took the odds and took the bookies money when the final whistle came.

Melbourne Heart 0 - Central Coast Mariners 1

Pedj Bojic scored the only goal of the game, handing the visiting Mariners a 1-0 victory over a lacklustre Melbourne Heart outfit. Heart were allowed the majority of possession in the first half but did little more than knock it around their defence. Garcia was played in by a nice lob from Dylan Macallister but Garcia flashed his shot wide across goal. The Mariners attack was restricted to countless long balls that were easily dealt with by the Heart defence.

The 51st minute saw Garcia take down Tom Rogic to give away a free kick just outside the penalty box. Stervjoski tapped the ball back to let Bojic curl his shot on the right foot around the wall and into the back of the net. Melbourne Heart decided to step up their play but only made a couple of chances and wasted them. Neither team performed well and will have to do better to win next week.

    Sydney FC 2 - Perth Glory 1

Sydney FC played atrociously but were helped by two major defensive errors that gifted them the 3 points against a superior Perth Glory outfit. Travis Dodd took the lead for the visitors with his goal on the 18th minute mark and the score remained 1-0 going into half-time with very few chances in the first half.

The turning point of the game was Steve Pantelidis being sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity to Brett Emerton. He dragged Sydney FC's Australian marquee back as he prepared to shoot in a 1 on 1 with the Glory Keeper, with Del Piero going to the penalty spot. Unlike last week where his penalty was saved, Del Piero narrowed scored by hitting the left post with the ball falling into the goal for the equaliser. Liam Miller and Danny Vukovic got in a mix up and his short throw was intercepted by Rhyan Grant, the ball falling to Emerton to chipped Vukovic who was miles off his line. Perth Glory made a late charge despite being down a man without reward to record a fortunate and undeserved victory for Sydney FC.

This leaves the ladder after round 4 at:

    1. Adelaide – 9 Points.
    2. Newcastle – 9 Points.
    3. Central Coast – 7 Points.
    4. Perth Glory – 6 Points.
    5. Sydney FC – 6 Points.
    6. Wellington – 5 Points.
    7. Brisbane Roar – 4 Points.
    8. Western Sydney – 4 Points.
    9. Melbourne Heart – 4 Points.
    10. Melbourne Victory – 3 Points.
