  • The Wanderers first match in Canberra ended in a solid 3-1 victory.

With a packed gallery of approximately 2,000 looking on Tony Popovic elected to give opportunities to members of the squad who will be pushing the established first team squad for the Red & Black. Several youth league players were also given the chance to gain experience playing at a higher level than usual. Labinot Haliti fired the first shot in his battle with Tomi Juric to decide who will lead the line for the reigning A-League Premiers as he tucked away a neat finish to open the scoring very early on. Mark Shields equalised for Canberra to leave the game finely poised at the break.

Popovic rung the changes when the teams returned to the pitch, Ono & Hersi fired up the visitors and the Wanderers took control of the match. The 80th minute saw Juric hit the back of the net, and the game was sealed with a stunning side volley from Mark Bridge.

The Wanderers next match is against Wellington Phoenix on Wednesday August 21st at Lily Homes Stadium in Seven Hills.
