  • Western Sydney Wanderers Golden Boot winner Mark Bridge has signed a three year contract extension to take his contract to the 2016/17 season.

Bridge, who scored 11 goals in the Wanderers premiership winning inaugural season has made a turnaround in attitude and love for the game at the Wanderers, and was rewarded for his good form with a contract that sees him join Iacopo La Rocca, Josh Barresi, Tomi Juric & Yianni Perkatis as players who have locked in their futures beyond the current season.

Bridge spoke about his change in attitude to the media after signing the extension, "Players leave a club and then all of a sudden they find a new lease on life and start performing well again. I was in a bit of a rut at Sydney FC - it's no secret, everyone knew it."

"I wasn't happy there and everyone could tell, not only from my attitude, but from my performances as well. I wasn't professional off the pitch."

"But here at the Wanderers I feel like I'm where I should be. My head's right and my professionalism couldn't be better."

"It's exciting times and I feel very privileged to have this opportunity."

While some eyebrows will be raised at the length of the contract, I find it refreshing to see another club reward it's best performing players with extended contracts.

The Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed a tour of Asia next month.

The Asian Tour, which was first reported by WestSydneyFootball.Com in this article, involved a series of negotiations and guidelines to be complied and discussed with the Japanese FA & J-League administration before it could be confirmed. Having overcome those issues, the club has confirmed a three match tour over 13 days.

The opponents to be faced on the tour are Shimizu S-Pulse on the 4th of September, Guangzhou on the 8th of September & Tokyo Verdy on the 12th.

Shimizu S-Pulse was the club that Shinji Ono played for before moving to the Wanderers, and Guangzhou have an Australian connection with Eddy Bosnar and ex-Central Coast Mariner Rostyn Griffiths in the squad.

The tour will serve as important preparation for the Wanderers inaugural tilt at the Asian Champions League later in the season. The NSW Government are funding the tour at least in part, with their contribution believed to be in the range of $75,000.
