The Parramatta Riverside Theatre was the location for the Western Sydney Wanderers Season 2012/13 Launch Function.

At Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre, the Western Sydney Wanderers 2012/2013 season was officially launched last night at an exclusive VIP-only function attended by politicians, sponsors, stakeholders, media, players and staff associated with the club. WestSydneyFootball.com’s correspondents were there to take it all in.

Various people gave speeches, including Frank Lowy, Lyall Gorman, State Sports Minister Graham Annersley and the head of the NRMA on an evening hosted by Ian “Dicko†Dickson.

Of the many things talked about on the night, one highlight included the official naming of the inaugural Wanderers’ board, which will consist of Lyall Gorman, Benjamin Chow, Warren Mundine, Paul Lederer and Elliott Rusanow. The hundreds of people and the players mingled and had a good evening.

Benjamin Chow – a leader of the Australian Chinese community with extensive business, community and political links

Warren Mundine – a high-profile advocate of Indigenous employment with a long career in corporate, community and political affairs

Paul Lederer – a prominent businessman with major manufacturing interests in western Sydney

Elliott Rusanow – a senior corporate finance executive

    Finally the season is here.

The only "extras" they added to yesterday's event were people who had done volunteer work for the club. There were a lot of folk from each football districts in Western Sydney. The Granville District provided most of the volunteer staff working in Prince Alfred Park. GaryFish and I were invited because of the Wanderers school program we set up as volunteers. We have 102 school ambassadors now. Lyall wants us the find a Japanese school in Western Sydney - I wonder why?? Well I searched the web, but I couldn't find one in our humble neck of the woods.

Good to have met you there, Red. Though we did also meet at the airport too on Monday morning to see Shinji :)

I would imagine that Paul Lederer is a director so that he can see and smell the club close up. Would not suprise to see in future years that he becomes a major shareholder.

However as Rangers fan i strongly object to any club being in the hands of a single master who has business interests.

Way too risky. A fan shareholder base is the way to go forward.

So would Shinji go over with your kids?? I think Lyall wants something that will encourage Japanese people living in Sydney to buy memberships. The only Japanese schools I could find were on the north side, not the west side.

Your school ambassador sent in a long list of things your school would like from the schools program. I sent the collation of all the requests into the club about 2 hours ago. I hope your school scores something. I can't see how they going to juggle it all with the fact that players need to play and train; but seemingly community engagement was a condition of the players' contracts. I'm optimistic for great things. The fact that they invited all their community volunteers to their VIP launch is a good sign.

A great pleasure to have time to get to know you a little better too, Jowel. It was a good event - you could feel the excitement in the air. I'm so fired up for tomorrow - feel like a kid with butterflies in my stomach!!!

I have no idea if they are still doing this, but when was at Westfields Sports High they had a Japanese school group come to the school every year. Maybe an opportunity if they still do it but haven't done it already this year.

100% agree with fan shareholder base model.

Lederer is the owner of Primo Smallgoods and was approached by Lowy at the start of this year to fund the new club (this was before the club was announced in April), however Lederer pulled out due to concern over the financial model the FFA was proposing.

It wouldn't be the first time a potential investor pulls out due to financial concerns. Anyone know exactly what model FFA keep trying to push that seems to scare everyone away???

I was made aware by a 3rd party that certain negotiations were taking place, whereby Primo may still acquire a 50% shareholding in the Wanderers.

Sounds to me like the Board appointment may be the precuser for such investment to come to fruition.
