Championship super competitive as always - most even league in Europe I think. Villa are in for a shock next year, it's tough as a big club coming down.

I can see Villa going down again, or at least close to.

My heart will be torn when Villa play Huddersfield...

The last time Villa were in the second tier, and I was there, this was a MASSIVE game for Boro fans as it was live on free to air TV on a Sunday afternoon, Boro were NEVER on TV in those days, pre satellite TV days aslo it was only the year before that Boro nearly didnt exist. Remember walking up to the ground for this one excited. The second ;ast min goal still sends a tingle down my spine, look at the Holgate bounce!

'And the fans who stayed loyal to a club that almost died have been rewarded' love that bit of commentary.

It's a tough gig..19 of the 24 teams have tasted life in the Premier league and desperate to return.

Burnley fans celebrating like a win at the end there i see. Dyche is a ******* idiot. ******* hate him.

Deam scenario. Boro snd Brighton just need to draw when they play each other to both go up and send Burnley to the play offs.

It is going to be very close! Burnley seem to think the job is done tonight.

GET THE ******* IN THERE Burnley 0 - 1 Boro, not long to go. pleeaasseee hold on!!!!

Will miss you in here next season boro!

You said that last season lol

Going to be close. But heres hoping boro and brighton can get the job done.

Almost secured a play off spot. After so many years of disappointment, still have a feeling Wednesday will **** it up.

No need to worry, if Boro don't make the top two you will get to play us in the first knock out round, you will knock us out for sure  :sorry:

Worrying thing for us though is we have not beaten a top 8 side this season.

Very relevant for the league table as it stands....& Burnley's upcoming fixture against Preston on Friday night...

Preston gave us a hell of a game a few weeks back, we were VERY lucky to grab an injury time winner and in all honesty Preston were robbed, one of the best sides I have seen Boro play this season. If Preston can recreate that form they will give Burnley a real test. Not sure if it will be enough to stop them but i am sure they will stand up and fight hard to stop them.

Fancy Preston as a play off side next year with a good few additions, attractive side to watch play.

I am not holding up very well with all of this, it is going to kill me I can feel it......... I don't think I could take any more play off heartbreak  :sorry:  :sorry:  :sorry:  :sorry:  :sorry:  :sorry:

Why do you hate Dyche so much? He's one of the best English managers there is at the minute. Remember, regardless of what The Middlesborough manager said about us yesterday this is almost the same team of misfits that he got promoted 2 years ago without the 2 best players. Gray was pretty much a straight swap for Ings and Lowton came in for Trippier.

No way we celebrated because we think it's done and dusted. We celebrated like that because that goal kept us in it. 5 points would have been too much and you'd have been almost up.

Well the fact he has a GREAT BIG MASSIVE chip on his shoulder from way back in 1997 when Boro played Chesterfield in that FA Cup semi final at Old Trafford that ended 3-3 with great controversy, plenty of clips on youtube about what happened here. He has NEVER EVER let that go and is a very bitter and twisted individual, his comments about the Boro earlier this season confirmed that and Karanka was merely having a go back at him.

Also that fact he looks like a fat ginger security guard that should be stood outside a shopping centre somewhere catching shop lifters.

The hate is mutual. Boro would love to let Brighton up with us given the opportunity and I think Burnley likewise would happily shaft us.

To be honest most burnley fans I know would rather it was boro that went up over Brighton. They are calling Brighton a plastic club with plastic fans and I kind of have to agree. Where were the extra 20000 5 years ago when they were struggling.

Any other guy but Dyche in charge and I would gladly have embraced another northern side in Prem with us. But he makes you guys so hard to like for a Boro fan.

To be fair Brighton had a limited capacity at their previous ground. They almost always drew a decent crowd at the old Goldstone ground.

In the early 80s for a time they did.

What a shithole the goldstone was. But many grounds were.

As plastic as Hull, Wigan, Bournemouth and Swansea. Teams go up and down all the time, the dynamic nature is what makes English football what it is. It's a shame these days it's all about the Premier League.

What would you think about a PL1 and PL2 with shared TV rights across both divisions? Perhaps shave a couple of teams off each division.

While you guys debate promotion Leeds news today was that cellino's son (who is on Leeds board) got a $5K fine and 3 game ban from 'football activities' for calling a Leeds fan a 'spastic' on social media.

FFS.

Am I right in thinking if we (boro and burnley) did go up and Newcastle and Sunderland both come down we will be your closet match next year WSWboro.

errmmmm, yes..... probably would be the closest  :D

Only calling it as he sees it to be fair  ;)

The Championship is one of the most brutal divisions in world football I think, and one of the most entertaining.

Unless Hull or the Owls go up too?

I remember this idea coming up a few years ago. My only issue is it would only really be of benefit to the underperforming big city clubs. The problem is the disparity in money currently between the premier league and the rest. If you did this I think that league 1 and 2 could end up as part time clubs.

It's not exactly the money I'm talking about, although I think it would be good if a bit more PL money went down the divisions, it's the complete saturation of media coverage of the Premier League. Many football news sites now only report on the PL and have nothing on the Football League these days.

A derby between Wednesday and Sheffield Utd was a big deal outside of the city regardless of the division, these days it would get no coverage outside of the city and Bournemouth vs Swansea would get more coverage because it's Premier League. Stoke vs Crystal Palace would get more coverage than Derby vs Forest etc etc etc.

It's a shame because as Boro said the Championship is a brutal division. It's easily the best standard league for how competitive it is. Glad the PL has had a bit of a shake up this season, but it's probably going to go back to business as usual next season.

There appears to be a general lack of knowledge regarding the background to Brighton. Yes, crowds increased dramatically when they moved into the new Amex stadium at Falmer. However, from 1997 to 1999 we played in Gillingham (110km's away from Brighton) before returning to an athletics stadium in the city that initially had a capacity of 7,000 which gradually over subsequent years was increased to just under 9,000. It was widely regarded as the worst place to watch football in the country. It was meant to be a temporary home for 3-4 years while the stadium at Falmer was built. That process actually took 12 years. Ouch.

So effectively we had no home from 1997 to 2011 (14 years). I was a season ticket holder at the athletics stadium. Only about 1,000 seats were covered. We were issued with a rain poncho with our season ticket. The seats in the stadium were removed each June & July and used in the Open golf championship...the ground was that temporary. Brighton's catchment area as a city is in the top 15 in the country with 1.6m people in Sussex. Historical crowds at the old (shabby) Goldstone ground were generally very good until in the mid-90's new owners came onboard who were not fans of the club but could see the potential value of the ground as a retail park.

Those people sold the ground and sold out the club and so began a 15 year struggle for a new home. As a consequence of that struggle, crap football, no stadium we lost a generation of supporters who naturally should be Brighton fans. In 1997 we were 25 minutes away from dropping out of the football league.....& we had no ground.

I'm proud that we have climbed back. We have the 2nd highest crowds in the championship and have been in the top 3-4 since the stadium was opened. We would have achieved much larger crowds in the earlier years but the crap athletics stadium capacity just didn't allow it. A few pictures of our 3 homes are linked if anyone is interested.
