Kizza Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Hope we sign a right Winger to force Mata to 10. That through ball for the goal was what we need more of, especially with Rooney refusing to make forward runs and still dropping way too deep. Prydzopolis and Alexander 2
Davo Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I'm assuming if we sign Pedro he'd go there. He was on the right when he scored the opener in the Champions League final against us so he can sit out there and try to cancel it out. Prydzopolis and DCWSW 2
Prydzopolis Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 Guys what's your view on the DdG situation? LvG saying he refused to play, DdG saying he didn't, Man Utd back tracking saying that LvG never spoke to DdG but the goal keeping coach instead. Does he stay or does he go?

I think we should be playing our best players. His job is to play football. Not sure about the GK we are playing now.... he is only a silver for bloody sake http://www.futhead.com/15/players/51730/sergio-romero/ Prydzopolis 1

I think LVG has decided to eliminate the risk of DDG's distractions potentially costing us goals. He knows that Romero isn't as good as DDG, but he knows what to expect from him. I think it's poor form of LVG to suggest that DDG said he didn't want to play when it was only suggested to the GK coach though. Putting him in the spotlight even more is only going to escalate the situation. I think there's a lot of back and forth happening with Madrid and perhaps he is trying to get DDG to push Madrid for a higher price. I don't think he'll be with us at the start of September. The longer this drags on though, the harder it will be for us to bring in a new keeper. Romero was always signed as a number two Edited August 16, 2015 by Alexander Prydzopolis 1
Kizza Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I get the feeling that a lot gets lost in translation from LVG to the press. His word selection isn't the greatest. Alexander and Prydzopolis 2
Prydzopolis Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 I get the feeling that a lot gets lost in translation from LVG to the press. His word selection isn't the greatest. He is definitely an eccentric one & uses some interesting phrases across to explain his point of view. Lost in translation? I just think it is who he is! I think LVG has decided to eliminate the risk of DDG's distractions potentially costing us goals. He knows that Romero isn't as good as DDG, but he knows what to expect from him. The longer this drags on though, the harder it will be for us to bring in a new keeper. Romero was always signed as a number two I think it was a great idea at the beginning, remove him from the squad & reduce the distractions but I feel the opposite has happened & it has turned into an absolute circus. I think Madrid are playing hardball playing it just like you did when you were trying to sign Ramos. The way things are going it looks like he is out the door but is a season of an incredible keeper worth the transfer fee & keeping a player that wants to stay? Who knows, but having some sense of hindsight would help in this situation! Alexander 1

Davo Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Well how about that. When you sign a player who made a name for himself beating players on the left wing to cut in and score with his right foot, and then play him on the left wing, he beats players, cuts in and scores with his right foot. Kizza, DCWSW, Alexander and 1 other 4

You make it sound like players should be played in their position. Please no more outrageous posts Davo. In all seriousness though I love how even with all the money spent, all the deep tactics, all the control and possession that sometimes football can simply come down to 'lob it to the tall guy'. That last second goal from Fellaini makes the world of difference. Definitely a deserved scoreline and if anything we really should've had 1 or 2 more but hopefully it will be enough to get us through. Kizza 1
DCWSW Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 There are reports suggesting that we have ended our interest in Pedro and Chelsea are now the front runners.

Alexander Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 There are reports suggesting that we have ended our interest in Pedro and Chelsea are now the front runners. Great news. Bad news. If Chelsea sign him it is a joke. This is becoming quite a tradition of them signing players that other teams are interested in.
mltezr Posted August 20, 2015 Author Posted August 20, 2015 yeah not too fussed if we dont get pedro. we have good depth in the wide positions. more focussed on getting a striker imo.
RBB Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 you have the amazing Depay, fuch the world imo Alexander 1
JoFo Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I'm a lot more focused on the players we have atm, especially given their performances. Smalling becoming a beast feels like a brand new signing. Darmian already looks like one of the biggest surprise picks ups in a while. Shaw now really showing what all the money spent on him was about. You could easily argue that we have the best fullbacks in the league (especially considering the disastrous start for Ivanovic and co). Schnederlein has made the midfield his own and Schweinsteiger is getting fitter each game. Memphis will be a star, I have no doubt and the confidence from the UCL game will hopefully just be the beginning. Now we obviously have a few problems. Very light up front and if Rooney doesn't pick up his form it could be a major issue. Also a little light at the back, especially if Smalling's form drops or Blind gets exposed. With that said though I don't think the right wing is a huge issue. Would've been nice to have Pedro but not a major loss. If that money is spent on a quality striker it will be much wiser. The timing of the supposed drop of interest is also telling. There's every chance we were delaying to see how we go in the UCL qualifier. Now that we are a step closer to qualification it could very well be that our targets have changed. I don't believe for a second that we lost out on Pedro cause we didn't want to back a couple extra million. Way more to it than that.

Gab Marcotti suggested that Woodward flew to Barcelona to finalise the deal but came back frustrated due to issues in the negotiations. I think Chelsea realised that they had a chance to bring Pedro to London and they took it. He'll be a good recruit for Mourinho. He's the quintessential Mourinho player. Happy to do what the coach wants him to do and not afraid to run himself ragged for the cause. I agree about us having issues on the right. Mata is an option to rotate in that position throughout the match, but we need someone with pace to get chalk on his boots to cross the ball in. Darmian is great at overlapping, but against good teams they will punish us if we don't have someone else with pace to pair up with him. By the sounds of who they are trying to recruit (Carlos Marne) from Southampton, I think this was the second choice to Pedro. United are trying to make it sound like Pedro was not the first choice, but I think the PR team are making excuses. We should be able to work out either way by September 1 Edited August 20, 2015 by Alexander

Davo Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 That list above has all the players the media linked us with, not ones we actually went after. Did we seriously go for Clyne when we had Darmian in the works? Alexander and Kizza 2
Zelinsky Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 LvG should know how Bayern works. He was around when Real, Barca, Chelsea etc tried to get Ribery and were offering astronomical amounts of money, but Bayern kept the "not for sale" sign in the window. Alexander 1

Damn you FCB and your financially stable club. Is this all because of 99? In 78 Bayern was broke, owing money, and even relegation was a possibility. They worked hard for where they are, the money they are spending is their own, not donations of Russian or Middle Eastern petro billionaires. They built Allianz, and they own it. It is amazing that they are still a sporting club, despite the corporate structures that have been put in place. But to answer your question: around 1990 four key players were sold Italy for big money, and the BL players who were meant to replace them went to Italy as well. Bayern learned that money in the bank doesn't score goals. It cost them a great coach (Heynckes) and losing the No 1 BL spot to BVB for several years. They don't let key players go if they can help it. Alexander 1
