I am turning down going on a bucks night to see this game :(:)

We'll take you to Playhouse after the game so you don't feel like you've totally missed out. ;)

we have a long way to go on and off the field, but in both aspects we are doing better than anyone expected.

100%

It's mine and my partner's 1 year anniversary this weekend and I'm still going to the game. Call in sick is all I can say.

Winner!!!! /thread

Man Utd v Liverpool is a secondary rivalry? Man Utd fans sing about Hillsborough, Liverpool fans sing about Munich. THAT is pure hate.

The Sydney derby, imo, we've already won by a country mile off the pitch, it's on the pitch that that one matters. The RBB vs BWB is a much harder challenge in the stands, whereas the game itself, of course we want to win, but it's who can be louder and prouder off the pitch that makes this one matter so much.

That can be argued. But you miss the point of who is their true rival. You ask Liverpool which they would rather win, its Everton. Newcastle its Sunderland. Arsenal its Tottenham. Villa n Birmingham.

Put it this way i hate melb v, admire what theyv done on n off the field. But hate them. When they played the smurfs i wanted them to win so bad, it was as good as 3 points when we lost to the jets.

For me, the smurfs is a natural rival and derby. Its great to battle it out off the field in all aspects but nothing is greater then those bragging rights, heck the 3 points dont mean ****, just the win!!

Lets not make Melb V a superficial rivalry. Or give them to much respect, alot of us already have a burning dislike for them. Let it build naturaly!

Nah I agree with DeeDee..

I think our egos are getting ahead of us already.. It's all well and good to wanna be the best supporters in the league, but our rivalry is Sydney FC. Who cares if we beat them off the field.. We need to beat them on the field to get the bragging rights!

I agree with this quote, our rivalry has to Be Sydney Fc, then Victory...

never the less, Smurfs and tards, I wish they lose everygame lol

Completely wrong. It's Manchester United and there are clear historical reasons behind the intensity of the rivalry not only between the two clubs but also the cities themselves.

Two things I'm gonna say on this.

1. Local derby does NOT instantly equate to a rivalry. They usually go hand in hand over time but one is not dependent on the other.

2. Rivalries are built over time. We are 1/4 through our first season. Rivalries will come but there's no point nor sense trying to rush one into existence. East Sydney are are local derby, Victory have the active support that we want to overtake as being the best in the country, end of.

I'm sorry. But every rivalry you have will be somewhat superficial until something other than media spin and a convenient location pops-up.

Ok ok ok, forget the liverpool example. :)

But cross town rivalries certainly are the be all and end all in the majority of football cities.

Newcastle v Sunderland being one of the most intense i have ever experienced.

And i for one can already feel it with the blue side of sydney.

Agree rivalries are built over time, its exactly what i have been saying.

I personaly find it odd though to target a club you aspire to better support wise as a potenial rival, if that is indeed what your saying. Let just focus on our own club and giving 110% to our boys in red and black! We aspire to be as good as we can be, and better.

Anyhow each to there own, there is already existing foundations in many of our supporter base with fire in thier belly over Melb V and all clubs like to beat them. It will be a big game.

Haha I know but we weren't planning on coming Saturday and spending the weekend together away, but she insisted that we go after she said she didn't want to in the first place. All good works for me. She got this Saturday off work anyway.

this will be a real test for the supporters I feel... plus no mooy-hersi-Ono?

Hey at least we got Dino the dinosaur

Woolpack for pre-drinks

Mooy goes into camp next Monday, until Thursday.

If he's not selected in the full 20 man squad he'll be free to play in those two matches.

I swear everyone in this league is our rivals. Never any easy games!

Not rivals, we all just hate you.

Thank Kevin Muscat for that

No mate, not saying that at all. Simply saying that the MV active support are the biggest and best in the HAL...and we want to become bigger & better. Obviously our aspirations create the potential for a fan-based rivalry, but that is a side-effect not the driving force.

The crux of my post echoed your key point that rivalries evolve over time and should not be contrived. :)

yeah tards is silly and offensive to spastics anyway.

After that ESFC vs MV game, I felt my hatred for MV lift quite a bit. But I'm sure once I see Muscat's useless cock of a head in Wanderland it'll burn nice and deep again
