  • Wanderers Draw 1-1 With Wellington

    mack

An Aaron Mooy free kick was cancelled out by Wellington's Brockie in a see-sawing encounter in Christchuch.

With 30 minutes gone Mooy scored a direct free kick from just outside the box to give the visiting Wanderers the lead. Both teams had a number of chances in a very free flowing and open game but neither could score before half-time.

Wellington replied after a corner kick was cleared to Bertos, who swung the ball in again for Brockie to get on the end of it and equalise. Mooy was again a stand-out performer. In addition to his goal he created numerous chances and was getting stuck in amongst the midfield.

The match will be another wakeup call for Wellington and another example for all the clubs in the A-League that the Wanderers cannot be taken lightly.

The Wanderers next scheduled match is against Bankstown City Lions at Jenson Park in Sefton on Thursday the 27th of September at 7:30pm. This is almost surely their last game of the pre-season campaign before the season kicks off against Central Coast on October 6th.

I'm very pleased that we are holding our own against A-League teams. All our first wins were against teams playing at a lower level of competition, and while they were excellent practice and a chance for Popa to see how the team works together, it is how we go against teams in the A-League that really counts.

So, Runitstraight, I don't care if we do finish in the middle because to finish there in our first year is good. And my team will NEVER be boring to me.

Well, we still haven't lost to an A-League team ;)

I doubt we are going to be easybeats like many are predicting.

3 games against A-League sides and 3 draws. Very good results, esp as we're ot even playing our full first 11 yet.

I would suggest that the starting 11 this match is pretty close to our best. Wish I could have been there...

Hopefully the club has a video presentation abvailable for viewing tomorrow.

Whilst a journalistic recount is great and much appreciated, the only real way to get a guide on the manner in which the game was played is to see some vision.

That $3.25 to finish top 6 is looking more appealing by the day.
