Away trip: Wanderers v Melbourne Heart 16-03-13

Recommended Posts

Although Beer DeLuxe was a convenient pregame meet up place, wasn't impressed after the game they refused entry for fans with colours on. Also I heard they were upset with some of the singing before march to stadium? What are the best alternative pubs in area to handle lesser numbers? (e.g. London in Richmond which is football fans friendly). Heart do have a decent size core fans base (although nothing like ours) and I still think the police will want to provide an escort from pregame.

I agree about Beer DeLuxe, they certainly screwed us by not letting us back in after the game.

We will need to find an alternative.

A few mates and i will be heading down for this one, flying in and out on the same day.
Would be great to catch up with whoever else is going.
I dont think we should give Beerdeluxe any of our business as they screwed us over after the victory match, so we definitely need an alternative.

Who's Heading down for sure?

I'm ok with any pub really, as long as its within walking distance lol

I am definitely going... The Elephant & Wheelbarrow is a great pub, but it adds to the walk as it is further in to the city. I struggle enough with the journey from Beer DeLuxe.

If the numbers are small try Young and Jacksons - it is visible from Beer Deluxe, directly opposite Flinders Street Station.  I had lunch their last week - good food.  Not much further to walk to AAMI than Beer Deluxe was.

I just don't know how they would feel about hundreds of football fans.

I think Mack's right about the tram if the numbers are small - tram leaves just outside Young and Jacksons.

I'm going to renew contact with management of the London Tavern in Richmond

http://thelondon.net.au/

Its a much shorter walk to stadium than e.g. Beer DeLuxe and other CBD pubs and previously they have been football fans friendly

will post details soon so we can lock in

Isn't that a Victory pub?

Pretty sure that is a victory pub dude

Its not one on main MV pubs, and we aren't playing them anyway

that will be sorted out over phone

London Tavern is no go as their manager made the decision in consultation with police to not allow football fans with colours etc following trouble in recent times, mostly from home fans

(most pubs in area now do not accommodate because of such problems)

Swan Hotel in Richmond given as alternative, so will discuss options with their manager soon

I understand their concern, but there won't be many of us.

Update:

The manager (football fan himself) of Swan Hotel in Richmond is happy to accommodate us, though with some conditions - no loud chanting inside due to potential annoyance to other patrons

http://theswan.com.au/

they can also host us after game - we are working on the basis of say approximately 100-120 fans

There are very few if any other options in Richmond (Heart fans have their own pub) due to factors like the London Tavern experienced

We might have to compromise, unless a suitable pub can be found in CBD and that would mean much longer walks to stadium and back

open to comments, feedback etc ??

Don't quote me on this but I think swan is horda's pub and even though they're playing sydney that same night I'm sure the fans that don't travel will be there .... Or won't be to happy if we're there

i'd stay clear of Richmond if it were up to me.

we don't need to go into any Victory Pub. Victory play the same night, so there will be fans watching matches there for sure.

Beer Deluxe were C*nts, but there is plenty of other options around Fed Square, and the march from there to the game is one everyone has done before.

If most want a pub around Fed square, then why don't some others take the initiative, search the web and phone around to mangers and then post for comment/feedback

needs a team effort to spread the tasks

i wish i could go to Melbourne again :(

the last thing i want is for a small bunch of WSW fans to wander into a Victory pub when they are there watching their team play Sydney in the Big Blue and there be some trouble.

also, i think for the thousands of WSW fans not on the forum, who would have seen / heard about the RBB at Fed Square when we were down there a month ago, it only makes sense to be in the same vicinity again as i'd say there will be a few people that just head there naturally (not Beer Deluxe - fU*ck em).

given it's a smaller crew as well (not 1000), other pubs are more likely to take us

with respect, I don't think anyone is talking about just wandering in to a MV pub, which is why speaking with mangers of pubs that are options is needed to make an informed decision

also, to an earlier post on this topic, the Swan Hotel in Richmond is definitely not a MV watering hole for home games or watching TV for away games
