Buying Serie A tickets (napoli)

Hey guys, I'm going on a holiday over to Italy for a few weeks very shortly. I wanted to try and catch a Serie A match while I was there - always cool to see the support in other leagues, I think it gives a cool insight into countries that I visit.

The only fixture that works with my itinerary is Napoli vs Chievo (September 14th). From what I've read, San Paulo should have a great atmosphere but its their first home game of the season and I want to make sure I can get tickets.

So a few questions for anyone familiar with Napoli or Serie A & kind enough to help out a fellow wanderer:

  • I don't have enough time until I leave to purchase any tickets that need delivery and there doesn't seem to be a way to buy e-tickets, so looks like I will have to pick one up in Italy. Since I'm flying into Milan and spending the first week in the north, I was wondering if it was possible to buy Napoli tickets in another city? Is there any other way?
  • If I have to buy the tickets in Napoli, my NTV train arrives at Napoli Centrale at 1pm and the game starts at 3pm. Would it be pretty unlikely I would have time to drop bags at hotel, buy ticket and get to the stadium? Would they be sold out anyway? Should I just give up on this - or is trying to do things on a tight schedule is a recipe for disaster.
  • From what I've read, the "Distini" bottom tier tickets are the way to go for foreigners - I'm going with my wife, we speak hardly any Italian
  • Would it be a bad idea to wear my WSW jersey to the game?
  • Anything else I should know watching a game at San Paulo?

Thanks all!

No experience in buying tickets, so can't help you there... Surely they sell tickets on the internet?

Saw this about buying tickets through a ticket agent, apparently the prices are quite decent http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowTopic-g187785-i421-k4812640-Tickets_to_SSC_Napoli_Match-Naples_Province_of_Naples_Campania.html

Also in terms of WSW jersey should be okay but just make sure it is not the colour of any of the rivals otherwise you might cause a bit of a stir, these are the rivals that I found off the Napoli wiki page, just click on the clubs to find out about the colours

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.S.C._Napoli

Also there still remain rivalries with Sampdoria, Reggina and also with the Atalanta, Avellino, Bari, Bologna, Brescia, Cagliari, Lecce, Salernitana, Vicenza and Udinese . Other minor rivalry with Foggia, Perugia, Pisa, Pistoiese and Ternana.

It's usually Napoli vs the rest of Italy! Lol especially the Northern teams eg. Milan , Juventus etc

I wore my Jersey in the street in Naples and got the scammers trying to connect by saying 'flamengo'!

Naples felt shady so I'd play a game of no risk..

Seems like I need to show my passport to both buy the ticket and enter the stadium - so they won't actually sell it online. If my hotel had a concierge, I could photocopy my passport and get them to book it for me - unfortunately I'm too poor to be staying somewhere like that!

According to this site, I can buy tickets from something called "listicket". But a lot of it is in Italian and I can only find season tickets rather than single match tickets for Napoli. Maybe they're just not on sale yet? Ideally I could buy the tickets from somewhere while I am in Milan....

I will wear something neutral, no point inviting any trouble.

Try emailing the club and telling them you're coming all the way from Australia to see Napoli play. I've heard stuff like that sometimes works although sometimes the club will test you by asking about favourite players or matches to see if you're a real fan.

Koji... What you hear about listicket. That's the right process. Went through it all when watched game in Florence.

It's easy.

Just go down to the corner of Spag Bol St n Lasagne Rd , where the Basilica of Maradona is located, there'll be a guy in a suit called Luigi , give him your $ , he'll hop on "his" Vespa n go get ur tickets for you off Signore Cazzo , an old dude playing Briscola with his mates n drinking Espressos like they're going out of fashion. When/if he gets back, hand over some more $ cos suddenly the prices went up .....oh yeah, forget about your backpack, you weren't carrying one anyway , capish? :ninja: ....yeah you seemed to have misplaced your watch n wallet too.....then get the hell out of there as fast as you can! :P

Nah! Have a great holiday dude! Enjoy!!! :D

Just got back from my trip to Italy. Did end up making it to the Napoli v Chievo game - wow, awesome experience.

Turned out being a poor result for Napoli - they were a better side but couldn't convert and after a missed penalty they fell apart and lost against a minnow at home. Heres a pic from where I was sitting

My thoughts

  • The drive in the taxi to the stadium had some spectacular views of the napoli coast. Our driver gave us a massive discount too because we were supporting his team.
  • The giant maradonna flags being waved around stadium. I wonder how many games each one of those flags has seen over the years? Pretty cool
  • Hilarious levels of security included a 5m deep concrete moat around the field and multiple fences. Trying and failing to jump that to rush the field would be serious injury or death
  • Two rival active support groups at opposite ends of the stadium made for a sea of noise - hard to make out the chants sometimes
  • Refs were booed even before kickoff
  • Smoking inside the stadium was pervasive. Really glad we don't have to put up with much of that in oz
  • Drinks were sold frozen solid by guys wandering around the crowd with eskies (with the expectation they would quickly melt in the baking sun).
  • Away fans were behind nets, beneath the top tier and behind glass windows with security guards in front. (its the empty bay on the right of my picture).
  • Before the game I saw some scary looking dudes making a show of checking cars stopped in traffic on the way to the game - I suspect looking for away supporters to cause trouble with.
  • Not much of a culture of wearing club merch like over here... relatively few jerseys and most of the club colours on display were from hats (it was ******* hot and sunny in napoli). I bought a scarf as a souvenir - which turned out to be incredible impractical to wear in the crushing heat.
  • Given the bad loss, I waited a good hour or so before getting a train back to the hotel. Even then there was a crush of people trying to get onto the train (neapolitans are impatient mother****ers)
