NPL Discussion 2022

Confirmed that Blacktown Spartans will be behind closed doors this Saturday on 6/8/22 but easy to watch the game from behind the goal at the main road end as you  get great viewing without entering the ground.  Come on guys it is a promotion year so let’s cheer them on.  The more the better!

So by by the look of the most recent results, Wanderers Youth would have won the ladder if not for the point deductions (which don’t appear to have been adjusted yet). Well done on the flares guys…

Actually adjusted on Football NSW ladder (Dribl).

It is still mathematically possible for the NPL2 to top the league if

1. St George City FA draw or lose on Saturday

AND

2. Mariners NPL2 draw or lose

AND

3. Wanderers NPL2 win

Scenario 1 is unlikely as they play Hills who are stone last

Scenario 2 is possible as CCM played yesterday and drew with Blacktown Spartans. CCM play St George FC who are mid table.

Scenario 3 is possible as Spartans played CCM yesterday and are backing up on Saturday

Yeah found that one, very unfortunate for the players. Fingers crossed CCM and St George can crumble but doubtful. I’m guessing this last game is also behind closed doors?

Yes I rang Football NSW.  It is behind closed doors but dead easy to watch from outside the fence behind the goal.

Football Scout has tweeted that the Wanderers have signed Ariath Piol from NPL South Australian club the MetroStars, there's some footage of him below. he looks promising:

And it also looks like another South Australian based player Jok Akuien will be joining him as well:

I would assume both would be joining the Wanderers NPL squad.

WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS READY FOR THE BIG LEAGUE

It’s going to be a massive year for newly promoted side Western Sydney Wanderers with coach Andrew Christiansen hoping his young chargers will impress with not just results but their style of football at Wanderers Park.

Christiansen, who took out the League One Men’s Coach of the Year award with the Central Coast Mariners this season, managed to retain the likes of George Antonis, Marcus Younis, Luca Pecora, Frans Deli, Edmun Haddad, Liam Bonetig, Yohan D’Souza and Ryley Hollingdale from its 2022 squad.

The club has since promoted Max Hately, Filip Dimovski, Will Mckay and William Freney from its Under 20’s side as all four hope to make a name for themselves in the Red and Black.

There will be six new additions coming into the squad with Jesse Cameron, Ryan Devin, Teng Kuol, Edmond Lupancu, Ariath Piol and Mason Fernandez all penning deals with the club.

A squad littered with future Australian youth stars, it’s a great opportunity to witness some of the best young talented players on offer as they battle against NSW’s best in the top tier NPL competition.

No doubt Mark Rudan will be keeping a close eye on some of the talent on show in his NPL stable.

Important notes:

  • This upcoming season of the NPL NSW Men's season will feature a relegation system. The team placed 16th at the end of the 2023 NPL NSW Men's season will automatically be relegated to the Football NSW League One Men's competition for 2024.
  • This upcoming season will feature a promotion/relegation play off. The team placed 15th at the end of the 2023 NPL Men's season will play off against the team that placed 2nd at the end of the 2023 Football NSW League One Men's competition.
  • The Play off will consists of two matches. The Home and Away goals rule will apply to decide the final promotion or relegation position. If both teams finish with a draw in the home and away goals rule, the teams will then settle the final position in a penalty shootout.

Surprised at not being retained

Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed as well. Connor Rose did have a spectator season by scoring 9 goals in 24 games. Personally, I think that's an outstanding performance for a winger. But, I think the reason why the club made the decision to release him is because he's 21 and he should of fully developed to be a senior player by then.

If it was my choice, I would given him one more year at the Wanderers to actually prove himself that he is A-League material (I certainly think he is. He is way better than his brother and I'm shocked they didn't promote him to the senior squad this season).

I really hope he makes a name for himself at Sutherland with the possibility he is looked at by some A-League clubs (excluding Macarthur FC and Sydney FC, f*ck them). Pretty sure I read from one of the those 'ITK' Twitter accounts ages ago that Brisbane Roar were looking to sign him and Lachie Rose. However, they both declined as they rather stay in NSW.
