I am for another full season with Staj he has not done a lot wrong coming from the starting base , I would hate to see us supporting Sydney FC after their disastrous season , from odds on season favourites to finish 7th.

I am very much looking forward to next season and let me tell you Sapsford WILL be leading from the front

I have done my post mortem and am now eagerly looking forward to the development of the team for next season.

I agree but let's not get too excited we won exactly the same as Sydney this year ie stuff all and effectively finished 2 places above them and lasted one extra game.

Plenty more work for the Stajman to do.

Sapsford is ace

I hope we get another season out of him.

We had Jeong and Bonetig to start. Clisby at LB. I mean its up there with Wilmering, Aquilina Cancar, Susnar and Natta. Cleur was the only defender I had any faith in. Who knew the improvements from Panta and Bonetig to be our main defenders and the addition of Gersbach. Before this side of 2025 our defence wasn't much better than the Jets and we had an over reliance on Marcelo last year. Panta ended up being our answer to Marcelo.

In midfield I never had faith Brillante and Priestmann could work because of last season, Staj had Scicluna to start and it worked until he got injured and experimenting with Mata just left us vulnerable in defence. He figured out how to get Brillante and Priestmann to work well together, something Rudan was unable to do.

Up front Kraev on the wing never convinced me until this year that he can play there. I don' think we fully appreciated Borello's new role until recently and how he works well with Sapsford. This was Sapsford big season that he pushed Kraev to the wing and Mata/Antonssen to the bench.

So we had a few youth products step up but also Staj made some tactical changes to adjust for the players he had and it clicked in the 2nd half of the season. But prior to this I really had us barely better than the Jets and outside of finals.

As much of a non fan I am of Clisby he is a far better defender than Wilmerring.

Centre backs, I'll give you (at start of season) even then Jeong came as a highly rated Korean international (far better CV than Natta).

But pretty much every other position you wouldn't swap for the Jets counter part.

Finishing 4th & getting knocked out in week 1 of the finals, after losing in the quarter final of the Australia Cup is underachieving with this squad.

It's not overwhelming is it? It's whelming for mine.

I think ElStagio did well, fixed the culture got us to a final and had is enjoying footy again. But overachieving would have been to win something or a GF.

The team that obviously underachieved this year is Sydney.

Arguably the over achiever is Western United

Oh and we lost 2 derbies drew 1. Before we even mention the totally abject performance of the women's team. I think we have a bit of work to do before we can feel too superior to Shelbyville

I like how in this thread we’re 1970 Brazil and Staj is a dud for not using them, but in the post match thread the whole team are a bunch of duds we should be sacking.

yea but when we lost the derbies the view was a middle of the table wanderers team at the best,  the achievements after that where exceptional until we blew the final game.

Sydney FC decisions to sack Bratten ( as much as I dislike him he is rock in any defence) move Lolley to a wing back when the defence was leaking goals,  Popovic as a centre back was a major failure.

The Money they would have spent on the forward line and disregard the defence turned into a disaster for them.

So Wanderers predictions start of the year was mid table at best we finished 4th,  Sydney FC prediction to win the league and finish 7th was a disgrace , that makes me feel superior to them:)

Stajs renovation of our locker room culture has been his best achievement for me. The players are very happy and he seems to get the best out of what he has. Two things we haven't seen for a long time.

I was about to write the same thing!

The players really seem to be enjoying their football too. And it shows on the pitch!

Beating them in a derby does the trick for me
