alexd Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Did anybody else feel annoyed by the Chilean flag in the Eastern stand - not sure if during, but centainly after Sunday's match. Although I do get the "passion" of the fan and in no way trying to belittle his background, the passion should be for the Wanderers, not whatever country you come from, otherwise it could easily develop into Croat v Serb, Macedonian v Greek, Argies v Brazilians, Italian v Italian (lol) etc and we would be back to square one. Lets just focus on the common passion that is the Wanderers.
Neverbloom Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 i thought flags from countries were banned i didnt actually notice it but i have no problem with those kinda flags if they dont cause any problems though i would rather people come with wanderers flags there is nothing wrong with being proud of your background just my opinion though
smarty Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 yeah I noticed the Chilean flag, I didn't get annoyed by it though seeing as we don't really have a history of Chilean ethnic tension in Australian football (well not that I'm aware of lol) - just thinking about it, if I had seen another flag where there is that history I probably would have been pretty annoyed.
nomad Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I dont know how they got it in, all national flags are banned!

Why would any kind of reasonable person be offended or annoyed by a random flag?
nomad Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Isnt part of the reason the a league was started; to mainstream the game, thus removing all traces of nationalistic ideologies! I have no issue with people showing pride in thier heritage, just save it for those occasions where national teams are playing. Afterall we are all unified under the crest and colours of WSW, do we want to alienate people by displaying national flags?

MarcelFC Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Or we could design a tifo with all (or perhaps majority) of all the recognised nations of the world, or even just all 208 FIFA members and have the WSWFC logo in the middleYou know all for cultural unity in the Western Suburbs...
Chaopescado Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Something like that Would be perfect for Australia day!
Davo Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Or rather than have the whole list of flags, have a thread where people post their nationalities or backgrounds and those flags get put on. Then we can genuinely show "this is how multicultural we are".
UltrasRBB Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Yeah i did notice kinda was annnoyed not that I have anything against CHI CHI CHI just hope it was a once off. I dont have anything against someone waving a Jap flag for ono or any other player in our team most euro clubs do that anyway.
nomad Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Something like that Would be perfect for Australia day! No thanks! Here is a historical fact: Australia day isnt the day australia as a nation was founded(01/01/1901)...it was the day the english invaded the first nations of this land. Shoud be renamed colonisation day!
UltrasRBB Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 ^ even that doesnt work, some people have a flag but they dont have a country.
zaya Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Something like that Would be perfect for Australia day! That's a really good idea boyz!! But i dont think all the countries in the world... the major countries from which the RBB members come from I think we can narrow it down to a few tbh.
MarcelFC Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I was bring sarcastic but hey if it works, it works
UltrasRBB Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I was bring sarcastic but hey if it works, it works i knowz bro! mine is working

MarcelFC Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I was bring sarcastic but hey if it works, it works i knowz bro! mine is working A *real* useful invention!
Tranquilo Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 also noticed the chilean flag, prefer to keep it wanderers based, hate seeing ppl at our matches wearing their fav epl team or other team lets keep it all wanderers or at least red and black based colours.
jacobwanderer Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Having national flags waved around by our supporters would definately raise alot of questions and may spark internal conflict within supporter bays however that all-nations flag would definately be a awesome idea. The love I have for WSW and its supporters is based around the multicultural part of things, where all of us come from different backgrounds, come to one game, for the one team supporting the one cause. This is what makes the RBB/ Wanderers fans so electric, it is the fuel behind the passion, it is what makes us so great & loud. (Oh and the beers ) Just my opinion, peace out brothers.
chenko Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 national flags at games conjure images of segregation, tension and division as others said......should all just be red and black avatars are a different story

I have to agree I am a bit uneasy about international flags best avoid the whole thing. We already have one flag even if I don't like its design and that is the Australian one in which we all unite under. Regardless of thoughts on Australia day especially the controversial aspect of white settlers taking land from the aboriginals. I think it is a day to celebrate living in this country regardless of whether you are 6th generation or 1st...we are all here in the same place together, we are all following the one team, in the A-League, in Australia.

Agreed! Couldnt agree more, want to bring a flag to the game Make sure its a WSW flag ... with such a varied supporters group, international flags might spark tension which we dont need. Go the wanderers!
