There were many more knowledgable Tigers fans who said he was going to debut this season and be a consistent top player.

I read somewhere that he may have actually had a season-ending injury earlier in the day.

It's just a real sad story.

May his family and friends have the strength and character to deal with their loss.

Cronulla Sharks=GONE!

Looks like the shire boys are gone.

Just heard on 7 afternoon news that ASADA are going to stand down upto 20 players.

Should know more about this tomorrow.

Only to have this happen right before the season kicks off.

Apparently betting has been suspended for the Sharks game.

This is interesting...

Reports that I have been reading and hearing this morning, the alleged supplements the players took back in 2011 were not illegal back then but ASADA are intent on having them banned for using 'legal' substance.

The Sharks management are telling their players to either sign this and take the 6 months suspension or get banned for 2 years.

Whether or not what the did was morally wrong, surely they can't add something to the banned list then back date the enforcement of it and punish people. That'd be like the government deciding to drop the speed limit of a road today from 60 to 50 then digging up a speed camera photo from a year ago of you doing 59 and booking you.

Or like the government enacting anti-terror laws that work retrospectively.

Oh wait.

Thing is though, the club are obviously in that much of a corner that they are telling their players just to cop it. Surely if it was 100% that it was legal whenever they took them they would fight it.

ASADA decides to wait a few days before the start of the season to drop this.. Talk about showboating. Disgusting organisation thats trying to get some publicity.

Yeah if they were legal substances when the samples were taken from the players then the bans wouldn't hold up in any court in the country.

Considering how much showboating, as Cazorla put it, that ASADA has done so far, they'd want to be pretty confident that the first time they pull the trigger it doesn't get overturned otherwise there'd be no confidence in the whole process.

Seeya Sharkies :)

On a lighter note, my tips for this week

Roosters v Rabbits

Broncos v Sea Eagles

Eels v Warriors

Bulldogs v Cowboys
Panthers v Raiders
Storm v Dragons (Go the Red V, I have faith, tipping with the heart, not the head)
Sharks v Titans ( What's the go with this game? I had tipped the Sharks, but I'm changing my tip now)
Knights v Tigers

This Sharks saga is taking another twist, obviously those 3 must have taken something illegal

CRONULLA captain Paul Gallen and star players Ben Pomeroy and John Morris fronted ex-Sharks head-conditioner Trent Elkin at his house last Tuesday night over the ASADA doping crisis engulfing the club.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the trio visited Elkin to demand answers about his level of co-operation with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.

Elkin is alleged to have divulged full details of the Sharks high performance supplements program during his reign as head conditioner, which ended last October when he joined Ricky Stuart at Parramatta.

The Daily Telegraph has been told ASADA have informed Sharks players and officials there is a whistle-blower who has detailed the exact nature of the peptide-based supplements the club used.

Under Elkin's regime, sports scientist Stephen Dank was hired by the Sharks over an 11-week block in 2011 before club doctor David Giveny intervened and terminated his involvement with the club.

The information has paved the way for former ASADA senior counsel Richard Redman to encourage Cronulla players to admit guilt and accept six-month bans.

Redman has been hired by the Sharks in an advisory capacity since the Australian Crime Commission scandal initially broke last month.

Cronulla initially told the players they had 48 hours to accept the six-month bans or opt to fight it and face two years on the sideline last Tuesday.

But with the majority of players suggesting they were unaware the peptides they were being supplied were on the WADA banned list, they have so far refused to accept any plea-bargain offer.

Dank has repeatedly denied any wrong doing.

I'm wondering what the attendance is?

North and South end has alot of empty spots.

Upper tier is pretty much empty.

This was apparently close to a sell out.

 just under 36k

Disappointing if you ask me, to local teams are 5 minutes walk from the stadium

Other then that, it was great to see the footy back :D

Get off the forum SBW, you should be focussing on the game.

just a thought..

how many rounds before we hear, 'we sing for [applicable NRL team]' chant?

I can hear a few chants in the background.

Posted

Those chants are coming from the Burrow... They have a few good chants actually.... But realistically there is no market for active support in  the NRL... The game is too stop/start + there's a lot to react to so it doesn't really suit it...

Plus they only have about..... 40-50 people who are really, really interested in being in the burrow... I went to the charity shield and felt bad for them because they were trying hard but just couldn't make the noise...  Was going to join until I remembered I was a westie Penrith supporter ;)

Was at tonights game and compared to a wsw game of 12k+ the atmosphere was fairly stale. Didnt help that the rorters ground announcer had to read an ad every 10 minutes.
