Season kicks off early March for those who follow it, for now though there's a few trial games happening.

I went to the Blacktown City trial match against APIA on Sunday night where City won 3-1. Which was surprising due to several leaving and signing for Marconi in the off-season.

Felt good leaving a stadium for a change, I believe Mounties Wanderers are next up for Blacktown.

Up to last season we release half the senior squad NPL, so it’s highly unlikely if we do the same thing again this year.

the NSW NPL will be restructured from next season as will NPL Youth.

NPL will be split into 4 divisions of 12 with only the senior and u20s. No more championship with u18s/u20s/senior. U18s transferring to Youth. Bottom team in each division will be relegated. 2nd bottom team will play the second team in the lower division in a playoff. (1and a half promotion/ relegation spots)

NPL youth being restructured in a a similar vane except promotion will be based on u14/u15/u16 results for promotion/ relegation.

They don't want to be promoted, as they believe it impacts the development of the younger kids, who may be 15, 16, 17.

SFC on the other hand like to select 19 & 20yo's in their squad

I guess it's their call.

I just see the benefit in our future stars like Fabian Monge to play against better quality players in the NPL1 like Panny Nikas.

Fabian has been training with the AL squad on a regular basis. MB has rated him since the Gold Coast camp & I'd reckon he'll pick up a scholarship contract pretty soon.

That exposure to a daily training regime, together with regular games against men at NPL2 level, has proven to be a good pathway for our youth to travel, if they seek to become professional sokkah players for WSW.

Blacktown City lost again last night in a trial against Olympic 1-0.

2 clear cut chances to bury the match but skied them both, Joey Gibbs still running the show after the clearout.

One player who is showing good signs is Grant Lynch, he played last night at a level above the NPL.

Western Sydney Wanderers FC have today announced their first grade squad for the upcoming NSW National Premier League 2 season.  14 of the 22 players in the squad hail from the Western Sydney region with some new and familiar Academy faces added to this season’s first grade squad.  The Wanderers will be looking to build on their last season in the competition which saw them finish 7th on the table.  The Red & Black will be once again led by Arthur Diles, who heads into the NPL 2 season off the back of another successful Foxtel Y-League campaign which saw the Wanderers secure back-to-back Grand Final appearances.  Youngsters Oliver Pufflett and Noah Pagden are also set to continue their journey at the Wanderers Academy, having been part of the Wanderers Academy system since it’s inception.  The Wanderers will kick-off the National Premier League 2 season this Saturday when they take on North Shore Mariners at Sydney United Sports Centre.  Western Sydney Wanderers 2019 NSW National Premier League 2 First Team

Watched Blacktown City put 7 or 8 past Parramatta FC today in a trial, Ahmad Elrich was playing for Parra. Legit looks just like Tarek plus about 30kg's.

Parra players were fighting each other, pushing each other, mouthing off at their own keeper, calling each other unfit absolutely terrible to watch.

They're in real trouble this season.

Hills United have got off to a "great start" with new head coach Patrick Zwaanswijk  with all 3 grades losing to Rydalmere.

Bonnyrigg White Eagle, relegated from NSW NPL1 last season, also lost in all 3 grades to Blacktown Spartans.

Macarthur Rams, now a feeder club to the Macarthur wannabes, also lost in 3 grades to Northern Tigers.

Going to somewhat confusing with St George FC (aren't they the lawbreaking team) and St George City FA (promoted from NPL3) in NPL2

Western Sydney Wanderers v Rydalmere Lions

Sunday 7 April 3pm, Sydney United Sports Centre

We head west for this week’s Match of the Round with the high-flying Western Sydney Wanderers taking on sixth placed Rydalmere Lions. After a disappointing 2018, the Wanderers are once more challenging at the right end of the table with four wins from five, and a healthy four goals scored in each of their past two. This is more like the Wanderers of old, and just one point from top, expect the home side to attack Rydalmere with relish. Mohamed Adam and Marley Petersen lead the way for the Wanderers with ten goals between them, so look to this pair to provide more of the same come Sunday. Rydalmere are having an impressive second season in NPL2 so far. Having strengthened the team during the off-season, the Lions are a stronger outfit in this, and have proven competitive since the start of the year, only succumbing to GHFA Spirit back in round three. Currently sixth, their most recent efforts have resulted in two draws, but considering that all but one game this season has been away from home, the Lions should be pleased with their results so far. This will be their fifth game away, so if they can take something from this weekend, it should auger well as the year progresses.

Another game for the Wanderers NPL team to be streamed as match of the Round. 

Match of the Round: Western Sydney Wanderers FC v GHFA Spirit FC, 3pm Sunday 28th April, Sydney United Sports Centre

Our main game features the sides in first and third, as early pace setters Spirit FC travel to south west Sydney to face the current top dogs in Western Sydney Wanderers.

These teams are coming off hard-earned 2-1 victories, with the Wanderers squeaking past St George FC and Spirit surviving a late scare against Hills.

You can’t go past Mohamed Adam as the main threat for the Wanderers. Adam has scored in his last five games, which amazingly is not the longest scoring streak in the division (see below). However, the red & black are far from a one man band, and Marley Peterson has contributed five goals from midfield.

David Perkovic’s side also have a left footed goalscoring midfielder, with Louis Bozanic also reaching the five goal mark after his match winning double against Hills United. With ace Spirit marksman Duncan Stewart already netting eight for the campaign, both backlines are sure to face a stern test on Sunday.

Bonnyrigg White Eagles FC vs. Western Sydney Wanderers – 6.30pm Saturday 4th May, Bonnyrigg Sports Club

As expected, Bonnyrigg have begun to find a bit of their old groove and will pleased they sit in sixth spot without having hit peak form yet. With the bulk of the season yet to play it seems the slow beginning will begin to burn bright soon.

You can be sure that the White Eagles will rise for the occasion this weekend as they will be eager to take down the Wanderers in front of the roar of the home crowd. Their defensive resolve will be at stake as the league leading Wanderers seem to be scoring at will. The home side may need to rethink their game plan and throw a little caution to the wind proving to the league their attack is not to be underestimated.

The young lads in Red and Black have gone from strength to strength and signalled their clear intent to the league by smacking Spirit for six last weekend. Breaking through Bonnyrigg’s defensive line has proven difficult this season, but this Wanderers side seems to be capable of hitting the target every time they hit the pitch.

With the side’s A-League campaign finished for the year, the youngsters will be able to maintain their core unit and keep on firing whilst the barrel is hot.

Football NSW preview. Unfortunately not match of the Round 

Northern Tigers FC vs. Western Sydney Wanderers FC – 7pm Saturday 18th May, North Turramurra Recreation Area

A confident Tigers side host the youth gone wild as the band of red and black roll into the north shore.

It’s one of the biggest challenges the hosts have come up against this season and the Wanderers do not look like slowing down.

For Tigers, things finally seemed to fall into place last week and they picked up an impressive win against Mounties. Josh Swadling will be looking to fire again as he comes into this one hot of a hat-trick last match.

The Wanderers are currently playing football with confidence and composure well beyond their years. It’s impressive to say the least what coach Arthur Diles has been able to manage with an often depleted squad combined with keeping his young lads at level heads.

Another impressive performance from Mohamed Adam is needed in this one, currently leading the golden boot race at better than a goal a game.

Wanderers play Mountie Wanderers Saturday night, Mark Bridge should be playing for Mounties I would imagine.

I haven't been to Edensor for a very long time, what's the parking situation like and what size crowd normally attends these matches?

For WSW games it'll be fine just park in the normal carpark. Worse case you just park in the street.

Football NSW preview 

Western Sydney Wanderers FC vs. Mounties Wanderers FC – 7pm Saturday 25th May, Sydney United Sports Centre

Western Sydney Wanderers were ultimately saved by Marley Peterson in the dying moments of last week’s match. He is yet another youngster who is popping up in decisive moments for Arthur Diles side and it’s another promising sign that the young core is learning how to secure points in difficult moments.

It will be a tough test this week up against an experienced Mounties side, we will have to wait and see if they are capable of performing once again beyond their years.

Mounties secured a clean sheet and three points, two things that haven’t seemingly been associated with the side this season. Brian ‘Bomber’ Brown’s men were however dealt a massive blow midweek as they were knocked out of the FFA Cup thanks to a 3-1 loss to NPL 3 NSW Men’s outfit Dulwich Hill which would have hurt the club in more ways than one.

With the transfer window open, is it the first of more to come and a push to the finals?

We eagerly await to see the true force of Mounties attacking weapons and they could be on full show this weekend as they always aim to rise to the occasion against Western Sydney.
