Southgate is so cautious he wears a seat belt at his office desk and life jacket while watering his garden. His waistcoat probably has an inflatable rip cord device built in..... If England go a goal up they will suddenly make Slovenia look like Spain on steroids and sit so deep Pickford won't be able to move off his goal line. I don't understand, you're usually so critical of Southgate, why are you so complimentary now? braad, Smoggy and EmMac 3

Sithslayer1991 Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 From England's group only England registered a victory, Slovenia and Denmark drew all 3 games

Davo Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Interesting how close it was between Denmark and Slovenia for second and third. They had the same points, drew against each other so identical head to head, same overall goal difference and goals scored. Ended up coming down to their disciplinary records, Denmark with -6 and Slovenia with -7. They actually had the same number of yellow cards among the players, but one of Slovenia’s coaching staff got a yellow from the bench to put them behind (although if that was level it goes to qualification ranking, so still Denmark).

Might have been better for Denmark to finish 3rd, they get the Germans as reward for second I think. Edited June 26, 2024 by Smoggy

Yep Denmark get Germany, although Slovenia get Portugal or the winner of Group E (probably Belgium). Also I read that with Poland’s draw with France it’s the first time since 92 that every team at the tournament has at least one point. There haven’t been any duds this time, even the weaker teams have been decent. Smoggy 1

Wouldn't want to watch either of them too often. Edinburgh 1
Smoggy Posted June 26, 2024 Author Posted June 26, 2024 (edited) I see England fans booed and launched cups in Southgate’s direction at the end last night. I seen this posted elsewhere and agree with it totally: This is why people hate the English I reckon, arrogant, aggressive, entitled people who can’t handle not getting exactly what they want, when they want it. It’s why so many English football supporters couldn’t care less about the national team, because you have these halfwits following them around and singing stupid racist and xenophobic songs about wars they never experienced and histories they’ve never learned. When the team doesn’t win they throw stuff. It could be a cup, a bottle, a piece of patio furniture. my opinion…..it’s the closest Southgate will get to a cup…. MartinTyler Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Couple of cracking games this morning. I've never been a fan of the "best 3rd placed" teams going through but by and large it's worked well this time.
StringerBellend Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 So the game refereed by a premier league referee (Attwell) ruined by stupid use of VAR to favour the big teams. Football is ****ed especially the premier league Smoggy 1

A free kick twatted into a guy that didn't move from about a metre out. Edinburgh 1
Smoggy Posted June 30, 2024 Author Posted June 30, 2024 **** me!… 30 seconds of injury time left…England looking out…huffing and puffing all game…no shot on target, the Slovakia keeper without a save to make. Step in Jude Bellingham with an overhead bicycle kick! Individual brilliance saves Southgate and England. Slovakia were absolutely outstanding, so hard on them. Really don’t know how England got out of jail here…. Jude is the difference. Edinburgh 1

Davo Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 England are where they are because they haven't played any of the big guys yet. Serbia, Denmark, Slovenia, Slovakia isn't the worst draw so far. In saying that, for all of the valid criticism of England's performances Denmark made Germany work hard for their win and Slovenia sent Portugal to pens (would have knocked them out if Sesko put away that one on one in the 115th minute). Like I said before, there aren't any duds in this tournament. I also wonder whether the way England plays will be better suited to opponents who try to play some football. They run out of ideas against a packed defense. With Spain, Germany, Portugal, and France were on the other side of the draw England have a big opportunity to find some form and go a long way. The Swiss are better than anything they've faced so far, but still not at the level of those other guys. Then it's likely the winner of the rematch between the Netherlands and Austria. Sithslayer1991 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 I mean its still England regardless of "easy side of the draw" England has a history of bottling it regardless. Their issue atm is getting the ball from defence to midfield. They are just stuck and reactive, without purpose when in possession. As much as Bellingham and Kane have been rescuing the team I think against the Swiss they are likely to lose. The Swiss will cause more problems than Slovakia and the way Xhaka is playing atm he is going to have an absolute field day against England. StringerBellend and Smoggy 2
