ManfredSchaefer Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Probably not much different to us hanging that inflatable dude in the ESFC shirt by the rafters of the woolie last season. Then setting him on fire. Bit of hammer to spice things up that's all. Seen MUCH worse. Actually there is a difference between taking a cartoon figure (i.e. a smurf) and hanging an effigy in front of a small audience, which is part of a long held sports fan tradition or the history of popular political protest, versus circulating drawn images of figures that are recognizably people either being lynched or committing suicide on a social media web site like Facebook. It doesn't take much of a leap in association between iconography such as that shown above and the kind of design work used in mass media images circulated by totalitarian states to whip up widespread public hatred, or for that matter the kind of bullying or vilification images we know is out there on the web. Again, ask yourself how you would feel if you came from a culture where lynching or hanging was part of your oppression, or if you knew someone who committed suicide in such a fashion and then see how you might feel. DamnedUnited Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Better dead than Red? Okay, be dead then I agree with many of your comments Manfred. If the Covettes want to stretch their imagination and class divide, well, there's more to this gig than football. Cold, calculating and insensitive. If the Covettes want to stretch their imagination and class divide, well, there's more to this gig than football. Cold, calculating and insensitive. A crisis always brings out a person's true colours and there's is colour ugly In defence of some in the land of Smurfdom there has been some anecdotal info that many in the Cove think it's pretty crook too. I guess when it comes right down to it as much as we can dislike the club and the fans of our most fervent opposition basic human values need to be respected, hence anyone who produced something like this from a Wanderers perspective against ESFC should get equally short shrift. Maybe it's because I'm aware of the subtext that perhaps even the artist isn't in his/her drawing (look up some of the historical precedents in terms of how those who 'collaborated' or were accused of 'defeatist' attitudes were treated in places like the USSR 1917, Germany 1945, Communist China, North and South Vietnam, in the Gaza Strip and in Iran and Syria today), where it is deemed acceptable to show death as something to be glorified as some kind of victory over a powerless, dehumanized enemy. I think we have enough reason to want to beat them and they us without anyone resorting to cartoon atrocities that would sit more comfortably in the pages of the Volkischer Beobachter or on a poster circulated in Bolshevik Russia...
dmixtaaa Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Just gees me up to beat them 6-0. WE ARE GONNA PUMP THEM OFF AND ON THE FIELD. SO PUMPED NOW FOR TOMORROW. umm, speak for yourself....

I agree with this, right up to the point where the political analogies kick in (amongst other things, because the particular slogan the Cave-member behind this image uses is also tried and tested in the murder and attacks on [political] left wingers). A discussion for another time and place, I think... Manfred's earlier points, however, are on the money, I reckon. ManfredSchaefer and DamnedUnited 2

Lmc Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 In the wise words of Briggs (rapper) Yeahhh, I’d rather be dead Never will I fall off, rather get the sawn off Trigger to the finger, pointed straight to the head I’m getting kinda bored of everything they thought of
Burgerman Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Reading ESFC's forum, apparently this photo has been going around FB. Disgusting and disgraceful is all i can say. ***** dogs must be running scared if they have to stoop this low.first it was "pashing is not crime" then "keep those tards in check" now this garbage. Esfc are a disgrace on field and off in there forums.Team for all of Sydney my ass, well do the lynching on the field and RBB will do it off it. Cguezz 1
bombagol Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Let's get this thread back on topic. So what do you reckon is the chance of ADP playing in the Derby? Would you prefer him in or out of the team? He is very dangerous in attack, but not exactly a work horse in defence, so his replacement if he is not playing might be more of a hindrance for us than ADP would be in defence ...? I think he is in the squad just to attract the ADP-lover crowd, but he won't take to the field. Which I think is what I prefer as I believe ESFC is a better team with him on the field.
Burgerman Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 IT'S MUTHAF**KING DERBY DAY!!!!! :woah: **** yeah bring on these smurf ****ers :woah: Better red and black than sky blue dead DamnedUnited 1
Lmc Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I'm assuming he will start on the bench and depending on the game and his physical status might come on towards the end.
Burgerman Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I'm hoping mat Thompson and Marc Warren are starters they will be weak points and also having Carle moving up from midfield could disrupt them further.I hope we can run a train on them in first half. But I reckon they might try be physical like Wellington and could play like hacks. Don't think Adp will start maybe come on when it's to late
ManfredSchaefer Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Here's a thought...ADP to retire/leave the ESFC shower by Christmas. Combination of injuries, getting sick and tired of shite team mates, a coach who couldn't organise a root in a brothel (was going to say piss up in a brewey but realised this is Frank Farina after all), and maybe a lucrative/cushy deal to become a coach or suitable stooge for some other club.

Indeed, they pulled that trick all the time last season when ADP wasn't going to play, they'd name him in the squad then pull him out at the last minute. Trying to trick those only going for ADP into still attending. Neverbloom 1
Bob Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Reading ESFC's forum, apparently this photo has been going around FB. Disgusting and disgraceful is all i can say. Please, please everyone, stop right there and analyse the picture with more thought This is actually Cove members they are portraying as they are saying "better dead than red." So here they are dead because they prefer it over being red. It's not an insult at all, it is just foreshadowing the fact that they are about to be taken over; an acceptance of defeat.
