Remember when Danny Choi was gonna be the saviour of the A-League.

Apparently he played for 6 teams in Portugal in 4 years.

Blacktown got rid of that godawful logo. I should go replace it on the system.

Yeah, Choi returned to Blacktown City mid-season last year. Probably a smart move by Mark Crittenden.

They have a few other familiar faces such as Jordan Smylie and Mitchell Mallia who's experienced playing in the A-League.

It might be a big task for the Wanderers to try and get one pass Tristan Predergast.

Plus, their Travis Major can score goals (and he's a bit prick online too) so he'll put pressure on the back four.

Overall, this is going to be a real test for the Wanderers. I'm going to predict a draw for this one.

Plus, I also like Blacktown's new logo. Heaps better and gives it a bit of a retro look.

Once again, I'll watch the match and report it.

Smylie has left as well according to Tony Tannous on the call, I think he said he's playing in Iceland so Blacktown not as strong as they could have been.

Was at the match against Manly on Sunday and Danny Choi was causing them all sorts of problems in the first half, Blacktown should have had a couple more goals.

This starts 7.30pm I think.  Will be interesting test for the NPL side.

Wonder if Danny Choi can maintain his form from last week, far worse footballers than him have played in the  A League.

The Wanderers NPL squad played against local rivals the Blacktown City Devils in round 2 of the NPL NSW Men’s First Grade.

The squad had quite a handful of changes in comparison to last week squad that took the 3 points against the Mariners.

George Antonis, Alessandro Lopane and Alex Badolato is in the middle and front three consisted of Marcus Younis and Ariath Piol on the wings with Nathaniel Blair being the striker.

The bench has Lawrence Caruso, Frans Deli, Matthew O’Donoghue, Teng Kuol, Farah Koko and Mason Fernandez.

Blacktown City looked to have an opportunity to score around the 7th minute as former Wanderers Mario Shabow managed to get a pass to Travis Major. Travis managed to dribble pass a few of the Wanderers defenders and took a shot a goal. Wilmering managed to get himself in the right position and get the ball out of the Wanderers half.

In the 17th minute, Blacktown City had another opportunity as Nicholas O’Brien managed to lobe the ball from one side of the field to the other which saw the ball go to Danny Choi. Choi then managed get passed Daniel Wilmering to set himself up for a good decent position outside the 18-yard box and took a shot at goal. However, Warshawsky managed to palm it away to keep the score nil all.

The 22nd minute had Marcus Younis doing another dribble like he did last week against the Mariners around Blacktown City’s defensive and take a shot at goal himself. Blacktown City’s goalkeeper Tristian Predergast managed to get a hand on it and palm it away from goal. However, the ball managed to get to Wanderers Alex Badolato to give the Wanderers a second chance at goal. However, the Blacktown defenders managed to get a foot on the ball to get it away from their own half of the field.

Blacktown City had a great opportunity in the 27th minute as Travis Major crossed the ball into the the 18-yard box which saw Mario Shabow managed to get head the ball towards goal. However, Jack Warshawsky managed to get the ball easily to keep the score dead even.

The 31st minute saw Marcus Younis down the ground for quite some time after him and Blacktown City’s Grant Lynch had a nasty collision. Younis managed to get himself off the field while he was being assessed by the medical staff. Eventually, Younis was fine and back on the field.

The 34th minute saw the first yellow card of the night was Blacktown City’s Adam Berry who was pulling George Antonis shirt so he couldn’t get the ball. The ref had no choice but to show him the yellow card

The 36th minute saw Blacktown City was another opportunity at goal as Danny Choi had the ball and managed to get a pass to Mario Shabow. Shabow tried to cross back to Travis Major but Wanderers defender Edmund Lupuncu managed to get the ball away.

The Wanderers had a great opportunity in the 39th minute, as managed to get a pass to Marcus Younis. Younis managed to get pass Blacktown City’s defender Grant Lynch and crossed the ball to Ariath Piol. Piol tried a shot at goal but Tristan Predergast palmed it away for a Wanderers corner. Wilmering took the corner kick but Wilmering’s kick immediately was wasted as the ball sailed out for a goal kick.

Tensions got high between the two squads around the 42nd minute as there was a bit of push and shove between Wanderers George Antonis and Blacktown City’s Jak O’Brien that other players from both squad had to push both players away.

The 2nd yellow card of the night went to Blacktown City’s Jak O’Brien after taking George Antonis down without the ball just at the start of the 45th minute. O’Brien and other Blacktown City players argued to the ref about the penalty.

A few seconds later, the ref has blown the whistle for half time.

The 47th minute saw the Wanderers getting a penalty inside the 18 yard-box with Nathaniel Blair being taken down by Tristan Predergast who wasn’t even close to the ball. Blair stepped up himself to take the penalty shot and got himself his first goal in the NPL season.

Blacktown City almost looked to find the equalizer at the 49th minute as Travis Major tried to get a cross to Mario Shabow who was unmarked, but Jack Warshawsky got a hand on the ball.

Something funny happened in the 52nd minute as a Blacktown City defender kicked the ball out of play, the ball actually hit the NPL camera crew and commentator Chris Curulli which caused the stream to go offline for a few seconds. Gradually, the stream was back live with Chris and the camera man having a bit of a laugh about it.

The 53rd minute saw Blacktown City’s Danny Choi down on the ground. It seems he had a hamstring injury which happened while the stream was cut. But, he was eventually taken off the field and replaced.

It took until the 59th minute for Blacktown City to find the equalizer as Blacktown City got themselves a corner kick, The draw wasn’t clear away by the Wanderers which saw Travis Major scoring.

However, It didn’t take long for Blacktown City to get themselves in front as they managed to do it in the 61st minute. As Blacktown City got themselves a free kick about 35 yards out from the goalposts on the left. Jack Warshawsky jumped to try and get the ball and was unsuccessful which then saw Daniel Collins tap the ball in. There was calls for the Wanderers saying the ball didn’t cross the line but it clearly did. Afterwards, there was a few pushing and shoving by players from both teams. Daniel Wilmering’s shirt was ripped which saw him off the field for a few minutes. As players walked away, he gave a yellow card to Blacktown City’s Grant Lynch causing the teams to start a scuffle.

The 65th minute saw the Wanderers receive a penalty inside the box for the 2nd time of the night with Lachlan Campbell was called out by the ref for handball. Afterwards, the ref gave Lachlan Campbell a yellow card which gave the Demons their 3rd yellow card for the night.

Nathaniel Blair was about to step up and take the penalty kick but instead the ref stopped play and immediately ran to the sideline of the field and put up a red card as Blacktown City’s manager Mark Crittenden was given his marching orders off the field.

Eventually, Blair stepped up to take the shot at goal which saw Tristan Predergast dive the opposite way from the ball and give Blair’s second goal for the season and also the Wanderers equalizing score.

Afterwards, Andrew Christensen made his first change of the night with Ariath Piol taken off and being replace by Teng Kuol.

The 72nd minute saw Blacktown City with an opportunity at goal which Mario Shabow flanking to the left and putting a cross into the 18-yard box. Jak O’Brien managed to try and head the ball, but it sailed away.

Afterwards, Andrew Christensen made his second substitution for the night with Alessandro Lopane coming off the field and Mason Fernandez replaces him.

The 74th minute saw Blacktown City Demons down to 10 men with Grant Lynch getting his second yellow for the evening after tripping Alexander Badolato.

The 77th minute saw Marcus Younis getting a yellow card which seems to be mouthing off the side ref.

The Wanderers had a chance to score in the 80th minute as Marcus Younis managed to dribble pass the Blacktown City defence to set-up a cross for Teng Kuol but it was headed away by Blacktown City players

George Antonis was down on the ground around the 82nd minute. He walked off the field with the medical staff to be assessed. Eventually, Antonis got replaced by Farah Koko.

The 83rd minute, Blacktown City Demons got themselves a penalty with Mason Fernandez getting penalized for handball. Mason Fernandez was furious with the call, yelling at the ref which cause the ref to give a yellow card to him. Travis Major stepped up to take the penalty kick and got it in the back of the net to give the Demons the lead for the second time of the night.

The end of the game saw the Wanderers trying many opportunities to try and get an equaliser while Blacktown City were time wasting. After 5 minutes of extra time, the ref called for the whistle as Blacktown City had won against the Wanderers at Rooty Hill.

The issue seems the squad are losing goals in set-pieces (especially in corners). This is something Wanderers NPL coach Andrew Christensen needs to work on. However, the squad tonight did well tonight as they got their first time of experiencing playing up against not only an NPL squad that's had many of years in the first grade. But, the reigning champions as well. I think this squad will go well this season and could be in the top 4.

Next week, the Wanderers NPL squad will play against St.George City FA at Penhurst Park, Penhurst on Saturday 18th February 2023.  Kickoff to commence at 7pm

Interesting pen calls. Their handball had to be a deliberate, just because you put your hands by your side doesn't meant you can still deliberately move into the ball with them. Call against us was flat out wrong, no way that was a deliberate handball and it was a natural position.
