Over the last 7 derbies I have learnt that the better team on paper, even on the night does not have to win.

Anyone who says I'll take a draw tonight hasn't learnt this.

This is a derby, we go for all the glory at the possibility of a loss.

65 000 in one stadium, in two voices. Singing with the people around you, and giving it to the scum on the other side of the stadium.

Gee up for derby day!

Brothers and sisters

Today is the day. A moment in time, in our lives, in our sport's and our country's history when love, passion, pride will rise eternal. With blood and soul stirred by the camaraderie of being committed to the red and black, let the terraces ring out our calls.

'These colours unite us all!'

Those five words are a clarion call, and we will be united tonight as we look on at yet another epic battle between our beloved Western Sydney Wanderers and the perfidious opposition who I won't ever dignify by naming. We know who they are, and with our short but epic history they have been forced to recognise us. In fact they have no raison d'être without us. For all their hollow boasting about owning this city, everyone aside from their small and deluded band of acolytes know the true state of dominance.

Sydney is red and black.

It goes without saying that tonight we expect every man on the pitch in our club's colours to do their duty, to play hard, to struggle valiantly and at the end of the match stand tall with the knowledge they have won an historic victory. However it is not whether we triumph on the field that once saw the world's greatest athletes perform in this, our nation's finest, best city.

No.

It is whether every single man, woman and child who loves the Western Sydney Wanderers will be able to walk out of the stadium tonight and in their hearts know that we have all played our part in reinforcing the hold our club and our sport has over you, me, this city, this country. If we lose we will hate the result, but it won't diminish our pride in and passion for the red and black.

And if we win; well, with steely resolve and grim determination let us take the victory and use it to build yet another glorious chapter in Western Sydney Wanderers' history. It is but one more step in a journey that never ends. A journey that brings honour to each and everyone who takes it.

So my brothers and sisters, take heart.

Rejoice.

Believe.

Cry out these words we hold to be true and loved.

"WE SING FOR WANDERERS"

Well... I will.... if I manage to get into the bloody  stadium!!

Still no ticket.... real or digital!

Weather is currently overcast with a bit of wind and patches of blue sky (I'm less than 10 km from Homebush). It'll be good come kick off. Currently 30% chance of showers according to the BOM.

So the article on TWG about an ANZ derby becoming a permanent fixture mentioned gate receipts of '$500k'.

I don't get this. Last reported PAX was 53 000. If the mean ticket price was $20 (it's not, it's higher)

Then gate takings would be 53000*20 = $1 060 000

What am I missing?

Can sell so many more corporate packages at ANZ compared to tiny old Pirtek Stadium.

Weather radar is almost completely clear now from the Sydney/Olympic Park area.

All systems go!

The gate receipts number ($500k) is the value of tix sold over and above wsw memberships

At Pirtek club could sell only 3,000 tix over above membership sales, so gate receipts are less than 100k

Today they will sell approx 30,000 over the membership number (plus Anz members of 8,000 which we get nothing for)

Expect between 63 and 68 tonight

I believe so, yes. It is where the march leaves from, I think?

Edit: confirmed. Via RBB Facebook.

** Pre game details **
RD 1 vs ESFC

The smurfs visit our new home and no better way to start the season than by showing them how unwelcome they are in our territory.

- The lawn bar
- All ages welcome
- Plenty of food and drink outlets
- Scarves available for sale
- March departing venue at 7pm

We all play our part tomorrow.

COYW!

Feels strange not going to Parra have an early dinner and then walk for a home game.
Haven't even looked at what's available for dinner @ Homebush.

I'm guessing they'll have the food stalls as they normally do for big events.
