I know Perth and Adelaide have more prolonged heat waves and hotter Summers... but we've had weeks of smoke as well. Damned sure I wouldn't want to be out on a training pitch today! I imagine so Mariners and WSW had to stop a NYL game this morning at 65 minute mark because of the heat Climate Change and ALeague could be its own thread TheCoomer, wendybr, JackDoff and 3 others 5 1
wendybr Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 It actually is absurd that the A League is a Summer sport. I understand why it is...and as a spectator, I'd much rather be out in Summer than in the middle of Winter....but for player wellbeing into the future, it might not be sustainable. wendybr Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 If only Thugby League would die a well deserved death...and leave venues available in the cooler months. OK I'm running away from NRL fans now. Wobblies, sonar, WanderingToqui and 4 others 4 3

I have to say, I CANNOT understand parents wanting to have their kids watch or play the game. I guess it's deeply embedded in the family culture?? of many in the community. But the off the pitch scandals alone would have me wanting to steer young kids in another direction. Still.... the media forces it down peoples' throats every night on the commercial networks' Nightly News, even in the off-season. So I suppose its demise is merely a pipe dream. Wobblies and Harv 2

It’s just bizarre at times and reflects poorly on the manager and assistant How do we know that MB hasn't been telling them to play off him though? For someone of Meier's calibre and experience, I doubt that he would go attempting this style of play against orders and similarly, I doubt that MB would ignore Meier's strength and not encourage/instruct the players to utilise this. Categorise the movement however you like but at the end of the day it's a simple one-two passing exchange which is a fundamental skill in football and is certainly not exclusive to any particular tactic or playing style. It was the same situation with Riera when he first arrived and once the players realised how he played, he became a much more dangerous proposition. EmMac and jockman 2

Unfortunately, A League in winter would not be sustainable. The support for sports that people want to watch but not play (real football is still the most popular participant sport in Aus) is too strong. And also the media support for those sports is too strong. It would be better to plan game times better. But the problem with that is that the foxtel gods would get upset and dump A League. jockman and wendybr 2
wendybr Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 Yes to all that, sadly. Enjoy being in Argentina! Probably far better being there than here at the moment!
HillsPanther Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 Much, much cooler here from what I hear. Now in Chile on the way to Equador. Everyone back in Aus please stay safe while these fires are raging. EmMac, wendybr, Smoggy and 1 other 4
WanderingToqui Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Well, Merrick has been sacked by the Jets. The merry go round spins round and round.
