  • Mariners Park The Barge To Claim Point In Parramatta.

    mack

Western Sydney dominated their midweek A-League clash but couldn't find a way through a packed Central Coast defence.

It was 90 minutes of anti-football from the Mariners and 90 minutes of a team still struggling for cohesion and match fitness failing to break them down. There were a handful of chances but few if any managed to be put on target, and those that did were easily covered by the defence or goalkeepers. The Wanderers looked reasonable on an individual level but no-one stepped up for a moment of glory, while the Mariners sat back and played as if in a 6-4-0 formation for the majority of the match.

    That's it.

    That's the match report.

The Wanderers next match is against the Newcastle Jets on Saturday the 22nd of November at 5:00pm at Parramatta Stadium.

It was interesting how often Poljak would drop into left back when we had possession to allow Adeleke to bomb forward. Interesting idea to get an overload on the wing but Adeleke's crossing was pretty bad.

Ruka and Castelen made heaps of space for themselves to receive the big diagonal cross field ball in behind but we never really played it.

Happened last year with Polenz/la Rocca, the right sided CDM always helps out right back same as last year Poljak/D'apuzzo the left sided CDM covering the LB when they bomb on.

They tried on a few occasions but they obviously don't have the players with that sort of range of passing to pull it off

Spira just too negative.  Never once wanted to find a cutting ball in midfield and would only ever lay it off to La Rocca or Poljak.

Not liking Poljak and La Rocca on the field together at the moment.  Too much defensive midfield when we need to attack with an extra midfielder..

Would have been nice to see Spira release from CB as opposed to giving it to our CDM's, but it seems like Popa wants to control the pace of the game from midfield, looking for a way to break down the defense this way. Without Shinji, both la Rocca and poljak don't look as good together

My major question (aside from why the **** wasn't the ref more willing with the cards...those Sea Bogans were using Romeo and Vitor's ankles for shot practice) was why did we see Romeo and Ruka switch for a time? Oh...another thought; for all that talk from Bozza after the ACL game against GVE Vitor was more than willing to cop a kicking and not rely on supposed theatrics.

Definately agree on the cards, doesn't made sense that he carded poljak for a 50-50 challenge but then the bogans getting away with hacking?

Have we successfully replaced our previous stars???

    Saba or Shinji ? Shinji

    Castelen or Hersi ? Hersi

    Mullen or Polenz ? Polenz

    Adeleke or Dapuzzo ? Adeleke

    Ruka or Minnecon ? Ruka

    !

    - He has replaced Shinji with saba but you have to remember that Shinji was a superstar of the game and 36, but saba is only 22/23 and is a growing superstar. You can't just expect him to come in and be at Shinji's level

    - With Polenz & D'apuzzo he has swapped it around this year with an attacking left back in Adeleke and a defender that will sit back in Mullen instead of an attacking right back

    - Ruka is a starter and minnecon was a squaddie, no comparison

Did anyone else see that little 360 to nowhere from Adeleke???

Yeah I saw it...he does love turning back towards goal...

Attendance 14k? There's no way there were that many empty seats.

Saw many empty seats in the eastern stand towards the south end and the South end didn't seem as full

why did we see Romeo and Ruka switch for a time?

They did this against Wellington too.  It doesn't work whatever they're trying.  It just narrowed the play as both tended inside.  Maybe it was trying to unsettle and pull CCM players out of position in the hope they were man marking.  If it is, it didn't work.  They just held their shape anyway.
This is a tactic used by many top teams, sometimes they don't feel like they are getting much luck attacking the defender so they swap to see what happens against the other defender. Also, swapping sides also means that if a right footer moves to the left (or vice versa) he is able to cut in and get a shot away on goal. I also think it's used to change things up randomly, if things aren't working, make a change and see if you can change the status quo or momentum. Since its zonal marking, you'll find that it's very unlikely that they will drag anyone out of position.

Agree on the front four swapping, tommy likes coming deep, saw castelen play centrally with saba drifted wide so it was nice to see a bit of an evolution. I have to agree with the change when bridge came on but that was more to do with fresh legs rather than bridge being better in distribution. We have struggled playing through the middle when bridge has played n10 in ACL and a few aleague games, so I'd have to say we looked better with Saba on the park but he isn't quite making those decisive passes or bossing the final third like Shinji did for us. I'd say that saba needs to build himself a bit more physically for the aleague, he too easily gets bossed off the ball and he needs to be able to get through/past a player without getting brought down each time. Hard I know when you have the hacks in midfield like CCM have but I feel he needs to improve this!

Haha my Dad wouldn't shut up about Juric's air swing on the way home. Juric wasn't great tonight, had a lot of chances but just couldn't get a decent connection with any of his shots.

I think against the Jets Hamil and Poljak will be due rests. And also a few of last nights boys should be able to backup and it will be great for thier fitness.

With Ruka, Castelan and Haliti to come off the bench. Golec to start for Adeleke but id love for him to get the match time.

I think Cole, Hamil, Adleke, Poljak, Juric, Saba, Castelen and Ruka to be rested. Starting line up Mullen, Spira, NTS, Golec, Trifiro, La Rocca, Sotirio, Fofanah, Bridge, Haliti. Ruka to come on for Fofanah (came off at 60 last night), Baccus for Trifiro and maybe Saba in the last 15mins if we aren't winning.

If he wants to succeed overseas or even for Australia he needs to put away those headers or shots, maybe a sign he needs a bit more time at WSW to grow/improve/regular game time to get to that next level

I would send Juric out again, any striker would be filthy about the missed opportunities, he should be kicking Popa's door down asking to be played. He is young and fit now, he should be able to back up in my opinion. Popa prob won't agree of course.

Ruka to be rested I think.

Our front 4 were interchanging positions more than I've seen previously..

    No doubt tactical.

Confused the hell out of me.

Confused the hell out of them as well I think!

Obviously the RBB issue has not ben fixed with empty bays. Just open the gates into the RBB at half time. Do something.

This so much!  I hate that it's closed off.

This way if people feel like they're having an off day, they can move into the side stands and sit down and watch the match  -  and if people on the side stands have extra energy to burn, they can head over to the RBB!!

The Mariners went with a gameplay, similar to the way we did in the ACL, and it worked for them. We didn't take our chances, simple as that; not to mention Reddy had a good game.

2 things really ***** shitted me last night and i have a feeling there's one farking carnt responsible for both.

If anyone knows the polesmoker responsible for playing that big bad wolf shite and playing that dancy crap over the top of glorious you have my permission to smash him in the face with a schooner glass.

    THIS SH*TS ME SO MUCH.

IT WOULD BE (somewhat...) DIFFERENT AND MORE ACCEPTABLE IF IT WAS AT LEAST DECENT DANCE MUSIC, OR REMIXES OF SONGS THAT DON'T SOUND LIKE A 6 year old PUT IT TOGETHER.

AND THERE IS NO NEED FOR THE STUPID ***** MUSIC, ONCE GLORIOUS STARTS.

ONCE GLORIOUS GETS GOING, TURN THE ***** MUSIC DOWN.

That's determined by the club, not the audio guy.

Try and tell the club not to play over Glorious.

When you say..Try and tell the club not to play over Glorious ...Is that a sarcastic statement that suggests that people have tried to tell the club without success, or has the club never been approached regarding this issue....BTW LaBanda could benefit from some brass enhancement..love the brass section, but difficult to hear..I know perhaps LaBanda could be mic`d up..now that would be cool hey..

Tell the club........ as in next time you play music over glorious you will be cable tied, gaffa taped and chucked in the Parra river.... that should do it.

Is there any sort of communication between the club/stadium and the RBB. This sort of thing could be fixed with a quick meeting between everyone about when the RBB takes over from the ground announcer and DJ (if we can call him that). Unless they want to just keep on ignoring the wishes of the fans.

Someone asked about it last season and I'm pretty sure the answer they were given was some bullshit about how carefully planned out, weeks in advance, the soundtrack for the match day is planned so they can't change it.

    Need more pregame daft punk.

We need shoot ***** training. Could of been 3-0 if Liam Reddy didn't go all God Mode for the chances we had.

Also, Da Funk at the beginning was the highlight of the night. Please play Revolution 909 next

I don't agree or disagree and really couldn't give 2 flying pigmy fux but as I never, ever do ( :ninja: ) I will play devils advocate here.... They are trying to get children and families involved in the game day experience. All fans must realise that not one group of fans are more important than any other. In saying this has anyone approached the club with their grievance, you may find there is a reason they do it which everyone has overlooked.

By the way the best heartfelt moment last night which speaks volumes is the chatter over #saynotoANZ.. To whomever was responsible, Well Done.. I'm thinking approaching the club as a group on Derby day and have petitions outside the ground as we walk in for all fans to sign. Tell Premier Baird to shove his $350m up his Northern Beaches clacka.... :nono:  :nono:  :nono:

Club determines that the music be played.

The audio guys would rather have us belt out Glorious, but that's what it is.

    And yes, more Daft Punk.

More Darren Percival and the butcher band... :ninja:

Club/FFA always use "commercial reasons" as their excuse.

Gotta stop all that shitty music so loud when the game is about to kick off. And tell the MC to stop doing "AANNND GIVE IT UP FOR YOUR WANDERERERS!!!!!!!!" as KO is about to happen.
