McKay says players stand with fans over protests

Professional Footballers Association President Matt McKay has insisted the players support A-League fans in regards to their recent protests.

Speaking at the 2015 PFA Annual General Meeting today in Melbourne the Brisbane Roar captain addressed fellow A-League and W-League players.

“The past week has presented challenges for the game to address. The players are firm in their support of the fans and the players must stand with them,†McKay said.

“The fans make the A-League the competition what it is today and the players support them in ensuring their rights and interests are protected.

“Fans of the A-League are the best of any sport in Australia. They make players proud to play football in Australia.â€

And you Matt McKay, inspire us to believe that all park footballers could one day become a professional.  Just like you did ;)

I laughed at this.

So Fox Football has done a wrap up of whats happened to explain to those people who arent sure of the situation.

So.... i started reading and didnt get far. I took the following screenshot. It shows that theres an ad for the SCG Trust just above the point about the privacy leak/breach.

They're just thinking what everyone else is* ;)

Easiest way to meet people without feeling like a knob is to come to a Baverian Bier Cafe meetup. Thats how many of us did it, amd we arent that bad.. sort of :cheeky:

Jess come along to the Bavarian for a pre-game drink before the victory game. Its a great way to meet fellow forumites. Like braad says we're not a bad bunch :)

Sounds like a plan  :drinks:  I'll just have to confirm things with my sister but if I can make it, I'll see you all there. I assume I should just keep an eye on the BBC thread for details...

:xnod: that was me. Next time you see me, come and say hi. If I don't immediately remember you when you say your WSF name, slap me in the back of my head. That usually helps to jog my memory.

Will do   :good: I'll say hello but I certainly won't slap you even if you did forget my forum name. That wouldn't be very nice  :P

A BBC meet-up would ruin my game though. I've been playing WSF Fourmite Bingo. I've spotted Manfred and Dmixtaa in their jerseys at other games and now Alex and hopefully Wendy. It's no fun if you're all in the same place.

Sheesh another stalker...Just what I need... Next time, come and say hi before I explode my C4 suicide vest and I will be hard to recognise.  :ninja:

FYI to those who didn't see it on Twitter, the new issue of The Leopold Method is now available. I can't say I've read football articles from any other source that match the consistent quality of this magazine/book. Highly recommend it http://leopoldmethod.com.au

Thanks Alexander, just got the yearly subscription since I was amazed at the previous issue I got. Highly recommend X2

I think I'll take out yearly subscription too, so far I have bought the first couple on kindle for myself then buying hardcopys as presents for fellow A league nerds

'Afl/nrl fans go to support their team. Soccer fans go to push their ethnic origins.' - some afl talking head ****wit.

Wow.

A lot of AFL supporters are completely retarded/clueless with some of the things they say and I seriously mean that. Remember these are people that have been living in an insular world for pretty much their whole lives.

And don't forget he actually forgot to book a venue for the GF. That's a "miss" too I reckon

And he booked AAMI park on valentine's day 2014 even though the VIC told him that the ground was booked already for a Bruce Springstein concert. He was too ignorant to put a tba venue on the published schedule, and so I booked to flights and a hotel, but never went to the wsw away game.

An ex player and a commentator. He is on the Footy Show. Their version of Sterlo or Fatty, but much crazier and more of a nut job.

Aah yes...Sam Newman...Pretty much sums up his intelligence level, just like his proven stance on Aboriginal people and women, as someone on twitter has already said. The guy is a total racist tool, obviously with photo's of David Gyngell in a compromising position I'd say.  :xnod:

Also the guy who got in some serious shite as a result of sticking a cut out of Caroline Wilson's face (no, not a relo to Boozy Becs) on a female mannequin

Whilst the rock ape contingent in the AFL thought it was hilarious there were some who thought he went to far.

Course there were only some AFL fans who didn't boo Goodes because of his aboriginality ...

I'll tell you something interesting about that. As NSW government protocol is all Identified and targeted Aboriginal roles are to be called 'Aboriginal' as TSI is classed as in Qld.

You have no idea how many hoops I had to jump through and how many Anglos' I had to upset to get my role changed to 'Indigenous'.. As I represent quite a large cohort around NSW, which includes 2 TS Islanders... :nono:

Getting back to Sam the Bigot, putting aside his ludicrous assertion re 'soccer fans/ethnic origins' as being the prime motivation, I believe it's only fair we not just reclaim our sports' ethnic past but be proud of it as well. Okay, there were undoubted issues with parts of the NSL, or indeed pre-NSL when it came to brawls etc. However let's be honest it about this...by denying that we are selling an antiseptic view of our sport that is not just at odds with the reality, it also means we lose sight of all the richness of the different cultures that guided our sport to where it is now.

It also falls into the trap of letting the other codes and supporters off the hook when it comes to their histories of violence and brawling, plus their monocultural institutionalised racism. Okay, there may have been some nasty incidents in the 80s when Serb and Croat clubs clashed in football, but at least today you won't hear a single Australian football fan boo a non-Anglo because of their race, creed or religion in 2015, unlike our bogan bumpkin countrymen in AFL .

The need to be scared and submissive in the cultural wars over our sport and how it is perceived should be over. In the last week or so almost every single fan, player and football journalist have defended our sporting heritage and culture. They've not excused the errors, nor (as the FFA has done) tried to acquiesce to what has been the standard response to football from the insecure, old, bigoted men and women who give sustenance to the Ray Hadleys, the Neil Mitchells, the Rebecca Wilsons of this country.

We have a long proud history of football in this country and the mantra of pleading for acceptance by extinguishing our past glories as well as our past cock ups should be done with. This is football. It is OUR Game.

So true Manny. Just as you know so well, a trip down to Jamberoo pub shows all of the struggles we have faced which has made our game what it is today. Wouldn't change it for the world. I'm sure eggball freaks would love to have the diversity of our history and the part it has played out in the World game to date. In the words of that great Anglo dude, Dale Kerrigan... Tell them their dreaming..

Even Dale had an Arab neighbour Farouk who loved cash, a Greek kickboxing son in law and a useless Iti lawyer.

AFL and NRL have got umm... Football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars.. and as much culture as a tub of yoplait.

I did say hello in a gruff Yorkshire kinda way lol I was the very tall fella who cut in on a conversation to get you shifted to the right bay when you were struggling lol And yes i did tut and sigh lol

Only clicked some time later who you might be and by that time my son was being his usual wild self and taking up time.

Hmmm.................... now I think it wasn't me.

Don't remember interacting with any tall, gruff men with Yorkshire accents, huffing and puffing impatiently, and accompanied by a wild little boy.

But I'll know what to look for next time............................... or am I better off steering clear

Only joking!

Passed through the  wrong section of the bay at one point... but didn't sit in the wrong place or anything,

:pardon:
