This is the sort of player that the A League will be signing. There is no money for anything else.

It's going to be fun

So he only had 1 good game against Juventus a few years ago, we can pull up highlights of the Spanish players we signed that scored bangers against Real Madrid

Has been confirmed this morning

 Big name signing!
But he’s last few years have been horrid if he comes to work hard he could be a real weapon, at least someone other than Auckland is showing some real ambition in what was shaping up as no big name signings…

The Brazilian fans seem very happy that he has left the club and this one doesn't think he will last season in the A-League.

For our sake, he will hopefully flop like Sturridge and Nani.

Word for caution as it was Talay who is bringing this guy in. I don't think Douglas Costa can cruise through with Talay as the boss, plus he was half decent at LA Galaxy.

To be honest I can't see why all the usual suspects are jizzing themselves about this signing. He'll probably be as effective as the 2 Brazilians they signed last season. Anyway, it will make for a lively opening game.

At least it will be interesting and it shows some ambition.

He's clearly in a different class to the 2 they signed last year

What have we signed.. a contract with a turf farm for practice pitch #18

I'm still hopeful that we get one or two decent signings before the season starts. What gets my goat (I'd use that other thread but it's been hijacked :woah:) is this automatic assumption in some circles that:

1) A player is Brazilian so he must be good and/or

2) He played for a well-known European club yonks ago so he must be good.

He's got an amazing pedigree, but from all reports has been lazy and not worth the money for a number of seasons. I'm expecting it to be a disappointment, but if he can deliver half of what he was once capable of he'll light up the league. Just seems very unlikely.

Apart from Ono, I am struggling to think of any big name player who really set the league on fire. Del Pierro was very good but ageing and limited. Big name players in the A League don't have many (any?) other options. There's a train they're down here and it isn't because they're still great!

Does Ninkovic, Mark Janko, Luis Garcia, Ola Toivenen, Honda (its fact), Tim Cahill and Diamanti count?

David Villa does not count 4 games with City was BS.

How well known was Ninko? Played World Cup but most people would've never heard of him.

Diamanti was probably the most consistent over a longer period of time of that bunch besides Ninko.

Interested as he originally rejected it:

Must of heard Douglas Costa joining and changed his mind.

Castro was ace too

Still it's ok Costa mostly plays right wing  we have Clisby at left back

Diego Costa is funny because he played for Perth. Had he played for any of the East side clubs his impact would have been greater. It also doesn't help he comes from La Liga. Perth fans actually rate Costa's impact higher than Ninkovic. We shows the division between East and West Australian football.

I'd say Castro was as good or better than Ninko in generally poorer teams, but agree nobody had heard of him before he came.

Didn't realise that Diego Costa had graced these shores :D
