  • Wanderers Round 19 Fixture Rescheduled

    mack

The Wanderers round 19 match against Melbourne Victory has been rescheduled due to atrocious FFA and Melbourne Victory planning.

The match, which was previously set down for AAMI Park on Saturday the 15th of February 2014, and was schedule to be a Wanderers Supporters Tour Of Duty match, has been changed to AAMI Park on Tuesday the 14th of January.

The fixture was changed because the FFA & Melbourne Victory released the schedule and draw without securing the use of AAMI Park for the original date, and were subsequently usurped by a concert.

A change to Ethiad Stadium on the original date is impossible due to preparations for concerts taking place there on the 18th & 19th of February. This change is going to cost Wanderers supporters as a collective thousands of dollars in wasted flights and accommodation.

This match on the 14th is being squeezed between a Sydney Derby at Parramatta on Saturday the 11th and playing in Adelaide on the 19th, giving the players only 2 days rest from the Derby before playing Melbourne Victory in Melbourne, flying back to Sydney, before leaving again for Adelaide to play another away match.

This is an absolutely shambolic piece of organisation from Melbourne Victory and the FFA. They have allowed a draw to be released with dates, knowing they do not actually have them secured. I find it incredible that a club playing at a stadium built specifically for Football that between the FFA and the Victory there is not a contract giving them priority over concerts, especially a concert at such late notice.

Damien de Bohun's attempt to spin their ridiculous scheduling is an insult to supporters. His claim that this will be a 'marquee fixture' is ludicrous, because it was already going to be a marquee fixture if the FFA and Victory had actually secured the use of their stadium. With the two best supporters groups in the league, and two top tier teams playing in arguably the best stadium in the country, this fixture could have been the best game of the year on and off the park and one of the best matches in all sport in Australia.

This change will only hurt the status of the fixture, trying to call a match played on a Tuesday in the 3rd week of January part of the 'holiday period' is wrong as most people will be back to work, and with the original match scheduled for a Saturday there was no need for the match to be in a so called 'holiday period' to begin with.

If Melbourne Victory cannot secure their stadium they should be punished by losing home ground advantage. This match should have been moved to Sydney and played on the original date at Parramatta Stadium.

    UPDATES:

Sources in Melbourne (note, not official) believe that this issue was a result of the FFA ignoring advice by MVFC that the date may result in both stadiums being unavailable.

The RBB is working to determine changes to our Tour Of Duty, so please do not adjust or cancel your bookings yet.

There is a letter to the FFA that I have penned about this issue, involving numerous questions to all parties concerned. It is located here (registration may be required).

Ridiculous, just cost us $500 as the whole family were going. Won't be able to afford risking any cash on another game sorry, who's to say it won't happen again this far out.

What an utter ******* disgrace by FFA and whoever else is involved with scheduling. Lucky I didn't book my flights yet (neither have my brothers/friends) but I feel sorry for those who have already done so.

    Wankers.

I just checked that the A-League fixtures were announced on 22May and the Springsteen concert on 13 August so why wasn't the venue booked?

I suppose just because the announcement was made then, doesn't mean that decisions hadn't already been made behind the scenes. (Although if that IS the case - why make the announcement?!)

An absolute shitstorm, by all involved. :(

    I cannot believe this crap.

The lack of thought for the fans is astounding. I think to make matters worse is their attempt to turn this into a positive, somehow. I'm ******* seriously pissed off. I had enough dramas organising the 2 dates for the TOD. Well there is no chance at all for me to go to the Victory match. On top of that, don't we play them in December as well?

    Yep. December 28.

If any common sense were to be used here they'd tell bruce and his promoters to change dates because there are far less problems doing that than there are making victory change. What pisses me off most is that the week before, heart have a home game against perth glory that will probably come close to breaking the world record for the least amount of ****s given for an event. WHY CANT THEY PUT THE CONCERT ON THEN??!?

**** go for both teams as this decision could effect outcome of the league forcing 2 top teams to play 3 games in a week,FFA stuff up big time, game should be played at same day but different venue even if they make it Victory home game but played at Parra.

Correct me if im wrong but wasn't this match venue changed already,as i remember talk about this previously i think it was moved from mcg to aami or something like that

They could have made this their annual match in Tassie.

Although now this date is their champions league playoff date does that mean they are going to be forced to play it in asia like brisbane were last season.

Yes I would have thought moving to another venue on the same day would have been a top priority as opposed to screwing both teams because of your (FFA) stuff up, missing out on a great oppotunity to promote the game (given it is the two best supporters in the game - the battle of the terraces), and lost revenues.

    But what do I know.

This article reads worse than a Terror article.

Just state the facts instead of shoehorning underhanded comments all the time.

    its painful to read.

also, this is why you don't book flights 3 years in advance.

Both Etihad (Nab cup) and MCG  (Cricket pitch still in)are in use, and obviously Bruce Springsteen was the sole purpose for building AAMI park. #theFFAareDonkeys

    Bob Jane Stadium?

    Carlton old gayFL's home ground?

Some other piss fart stadium in Mexico?

You would think that there would have to be an option of playing it somewhere in Melb on that day.

I feel sorry for people that have bought flights.

I feel this will see a surge in ppl attending the Dec 28th fixture!!!

    This sucks so bad.

I reckon choosing a Tuesday is to try and cull the active support/numbers of us traveling down. Chosing that day cause its considered a holiday period won't wash with me if they start using that as an excuse. It's no secret that active support is hated by the authorities down there and even Melbourne Victory aren't very supportive of their northern terrace. They know that this will probably be one of if not the most actively supported games all season and so to avoid any chance of trouble they've done this. Talk about biting your nose off to spite your face, they could have had one of the best atmospheres at this game and really benefitted from it.

Okay, apparently you can change your flights on Jetstar for $40.

NO ONE CHANGE YOUR FLIGHTS YET, THERE IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO BE MADE TONIGHT OR OVER THE COMING DAY ABOUT AMENDMENTS TO THE 'TOUR OF DUTY'.

Mack, please help me emphasise that ^^^^

I got my hopes up reading this but then I looked at the date of the post.  Damn old-thread bumping.

bet their spewing abt moving this game forward now

    I think its the opposite..

Their glad that this one will draw less attention and lower crowd because their incompetent management can only handle crowds as big as Hearts.

    • I've been following him for a couple of weeks. His last info was that Rudan was safe until early next season and that Marcelo is leaving.
    • The defense is the problem. Stones is good at CB but it looks like he'll be paired with Maguire, who has actually been playing really well lately but picked up another injury so won't play much going into the tournament. I doubt Shaw is making the squad, even if he gets over his injury by the end of the club season. Trippier and Walker should be fine as fullbacks but not heaps of depth there. Shame Ben White has withdrawn from England selection. Pickford has been good for Everton but I've never been completely convinced with him for England. I guess there aren't too many other options. Ramsdale is behind Raya at Arsenal and Pope has been injured. Henderson has been pretty good for Palace. Further forward Rice, Bellingham, Maddison, Foden, Kane, Saka, Watkins, Grealish, Palmer is up there with pretty much any other side at the moment.
