So is Poljak seriously missing this game for his wedding??

Poor form mate, that's what the off-season is for

Was organised for this period to enable family to travel to OZ for the occasion.

Plus I don't think it was unreasonable for WSW to request a game not on the 28th, the FFA had plenty of warning and time to put out a schedule well in advance knowing full well what was happening on this day.

It was a reasonable request on the part of the Wanderers, but the FFA's scheduling decision is also entirely reasonable... Hopefully everyone is just letting off steam, but did anyone really expect the date to change based on the discretionary needs of one player? What if any new date meant that a Wellington player was in the same boat? Where would this end of that were the case?

Much like when children are born, this is one of those circumstances when players just have to (rightly) skip a game for something that's ultimately a little more important than a game of football. It kind of sucks for all concerned, but it's hardly a stuff up on the part of the A-League.

I get that if it's the only chance to get his family out here for the wedding then there's not much that they can do.
But come on..  play on the sunday and have the wedding on the 29th and arrive at the last minute in a motorboat hangover 2 style

there seems to be a correlation with our unsuccessful ffa cup campaign and a league season since ian crook has arrived. I think players are missing the down to earth and smart tactical approach of ante milicic. the popa and crook show is not going well especially with the some of the starting 11 we have put out. some players have been shelved and others are playing with no passion but not threaten with their position and others brought in that have added not value. desperate times.

Maybe it was impossible to change the date? You'd assume once the dates were released June/July that they'd look to change the date of the wedding. Surely there would be some flexibility being so far out, overseas visitors wouldn't come for a day they'd be fine but the problem would be the church, wedding venue, anyone they'd employed for the day. Again you'd assume that there would be enough lee way with most of these things but obviously not!

Referee is O'Leary?

Yes, let's play the New Zealand team in the A-League in a game officiated by the New Zealand referee...

:smurfnono::smurfpoint:

Let's be honest here, does this sort of thinking ever come into play with the FFA? Remember the grand final? A Brisbane based referee, refereeing the grandfinal in Brisbane? Incredibly unprofessional!

Disagree about passion, the players put in 100% every time

Crook obviously adds something different to the team but since we don't know what he adds to the team differently to AM we can't really make a comment about whether he is good enough or not. We can speculate but unless someone knows the inner workings of the club (say a players perspective) I'm not willing to say that crook has no idea what he is doing otherwise popa wouldn't have brought him in. In the short to medium term, popa knows he has picked the best candidate to run the Wanderers youth academy and is happy for him to be assistant until the project gets off the ground. Add in to this the positive comments I've heard regarding Cook from the media and players alike who is the Yin to popa's Yang then I believe crook is the best candidate available.

I'd say that our effectiveness in the aleague/ffa cup has little to do with coaching and more to do with circumstances around this season. Season one was phenomenal, season two had a small turnover of players plus a good preseason with a bigger workload so we were less effective but still pretty awesome and season three has seen a big player turnover, no presesson for half the squad and an even bigger workload. This has nothing to do with coaching, the boys are prepared to the best degree the coaching staff can do but the players aren't quite clicking on the field. Unfortunately we can't give them 8/9 weeks of training 5 days a week and one game a week to get everyone firing together like we saw in season one before results turned around for us and we went on a good run. It's been stop start, training has been limited, games are coming thick and fast, we've had to spend days traveling, we've had a really weird schedule and we've been challenging on too many fronts.

Also the FFA cup game was essentially our first competitive game for the season, the majority of players who played 90 minutes only had 45 minutes in practice games. Realistically we couldn't have asked for a better warm up game for the ACL game the following week and has very little to do with the aleague!

My son just had his wedding and everything was booked a year prior.I guess it's one of those things. He has ,to miss the game for a very important day in his and his families life. Congrats Matteo... Hope you have a great day. Edited by tardotz

Mateo gets married = Aus citizen = visa spot freed up

Needs to spend another two years in Australia before he gets his minimum 5 year residence required for citizenship!

It's 4 years. And as far as Im aware Permenent residency counts anyway.

But he can't play for the socceroos?

As long as he didn't play for the senior Croatian team, can't see why not!!

Also, found out that his Poljak's father is coach of team in Croatia and his fiancée's sibling plays football overseas too. They are currently taking a break so it was really the only time around this time of year to have the wedding.

Nah not eligible. Same situation as traore. Must have had both citizenships at the time represented b s country at junior level to be eligible.

So how does that compare the Diego Costa? Who actually had 2 senior caps for Brazil before transferring to Spain.

Below from Wiki. I'm assuming it has something to do with what FIFA term as full internationals. But farks me, I don't get FIFA.

Request to change teams

In September 2013, the Royal Spanish Football Federation made an official request to FIFA for permission to call up Costa for the Spanish national team.[73] He had been granted Spanish nationality earlier in the summer.[74]

On 29 October 2013, Costa declared that he wished to play international football for Spain, sending a letter to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).[75] Following the news, Scolari commented: "A Brazilian player who refuses to wear the shirt of the Brazilian national team and compete in a World Cup in your country is automatically withdrawn. He is turning his back on a dream of millions, to represent our national team, the five-time champions in a World Cup in Brazil."[76]

So maybe if we can get the Croatian FA to release him or something like that?

This all assuming that he would accept playing for Australia, although for him to get a cap for Croatia surely he would have to go back to Croatia and play for a big club

Twitter explodes over West13's post on here, they've made out that we are going to protest because the FFA failed to listen to WSW's request to not play on the 28th. Idiots :nono:

Huh??? My post? Lol... Which one?

I'm not on Twitter, post some links ;)

Poljak, if he can play for Australia all he has to beat out is Jedinak and Milligan.

And he's younger than both of them, in a couple of years time when they (Mile and Mark) are in their 30s.

Poljak could be useful

If twitter has blown up over a post on this forum. I'd take it as a compliment.

Or at least Mack should take it as a compliment

twitter is a cavalcade of bell-ends as far as a-league discussion goes.

every other fan base seems to have a couple of scouseroar wannabes who spend their time circulating anti-wsw and anti-rbb stuff.

it doesn't surprise me at all that these same low lifes are spending their  time scouring these forums desperately looking for anything they can take completely out of context to try to attack wsw fans.
