Amazing how the majority of the A-League clubs manage to provide sufficient  updates during their pre-season matches, but we struggle to.

Did we for the first time ever use a different formation ?

Anyone else worried about as not scoring more then 1 goal a game.

No.

We just knocked out the Champions of Asia over 180 minutes and made the Champions League Semi Finals. I think we're doing just fine.

I can't believe people are still questioning Popa or the team. F*ck me.  :woah:

What sort of formation were we playing :S

Obviously Cole filled 1 of the full back positions but who filled the other one?

Looks like La Rocca as a CB again. I don't mind him going there as backup if needed. I don't like him starting there though.

There was an article and highlights package released at like 9am this morning.

It was a pre-season game that wasn't televised in the middle of a desert at 1:30am.

I think the club's communication is quite poor, but I can't have a go at them for not tweeting that Deano just let one in from 25 yards.

I must be old :(

The only way I can get a 4-2-3-1 out of that lineup is if Popa tried Stevie K as a fullback.

Deano; Kuzi, NTS, La Rocca, Cole; Trifiro, Perkatis; Fofanah, Saba, Castelen; Santalab.

I am not questioning him, but its a fact we cant score goals regardless of who we knock out. it hurt us in the GF, FFA cup etc, its something we need to work on.

Interesting. I wonder who out of Fofanah, Saba, Castelen and Santalab weren't part of the front 4? Possibly Fofanah although from the few highlights I've seen his goal looked like he was on the left wing.

And it raises the question of whether we played 4 at the back. Assuming we did who was the fourth with Cole, NTS and La Rocca?

Santalab

Kuzi - Saba - Castelen
Trifiro - Fofanah
Cole - NTS - LLR - Perkatis?

Deano

Yianni must have been the one who played in the backline. Trifiro / Fofanah wouldn't.

Why not Fofanah or Kuzi at LB?

               Santa

Kuzi/Fof - Saba - Rowmayo

        Jace - Yianni

Kuzi/Fof - NTS - ILR - Shan

Because Kuzi and Fofanah are attackers?

Yianni is a defensive midfielder?

Just watched the highlights video properly, and this was how they lined up.

Shannon was out of position at LB when Riffa got a free header away that Deano saved, and Yianni was at RB and the defender got inbetween La Rocca and him for the header.

Interesting that Popa is using Perkatis in the backline. Maybe too many central midfielders and his best chance of a first team spot is in the backline?

Maybe he is playing mind games with FC Seoul. But to be honest i think he is just getting game time into people even if that means out of position. Also allows him to see if they are comfortable there just in case there is a worse case scenario and they are the only option on the bench. La Rocca he probably wants to be able to play CB just in case the grand final incident occurs again.

I thought Hamill handled himself well enough in the QF's to warrant being our backup CB if Spira/NTS are out of action.

Alessi is in Vietnam with the YS, Mullen is prob still getting over the hammy twinge, so Yianni played some minutes at RB.

Meh, the next outing will be far more important in terms of the fitness of our playing roster.

He is the obvious choice but with the A-League bench so small what if one of the CBs were to be injured on the field like last year's final.

Really good call, I know plenty of teams that play players out of position in preseason just to get playing time/minutes under the belt but as soon as the competitive games start, it all goes back to normal service once competitive games begin!

I remember a time when clubs on pre-season tours would be lucky to release highlight videos days later, let alone anything resembling live updates (and *gasp*, the days when you were lucky to get a competitive match from Italy on SBS on Sunday morning) on any 'social media'.

Maybe I just have patience built in a time where I might have to wait 5 minutes for an internet page of just text to load and video was a pipedream, but some of the complaints about not having someone live tweeting/streaming a pre-season friendly for broadcast at 3 in the morning, from a country that practices some quite severe internet censorship are a bit much.

Might be worth checking in on this website on Sunday morning for possible stream & or highlights.
