  • New Parramatta Stadium Revealed

    mack

The winning design for the new Western Sydney Wanderers stadium at Parramatta was revealed today by the NSW Government.

As work begins on the demolition of the new stadium, the 2019 stadium design has been unveiled. With numerous bidders for the work, the Government selected a joint bid between builders Lend Lease, and designer Populous.

Populous are well known in Australia & Asia, having designed the Sydney Olympic Stadium that the Western Sydney Wanderers are currently playing in, as well as stadiums on the Gold Coast, in Melbourne & New Zealand.

Unlike many other stadiums built in Australia, this is a purpose built rectangular stadium, and will have the steepest viewing angles in the country. There will be a single tier home end, while the main grandstand will be built with premium corporate hospital suites.

The new stadium if completed as designed looks like it will be the premier medium sized stadium in the country, and leaving all but a handful of stadiums in the dust. It is expected to be finished in 2019.

The match day issues with SOP are out of the club's control

Does the Lawn Bar even exist anymore?

went the way of the tassie tiger, though if the shots were as weak as the ones at the lawn bar the tiger would probably still be alive.

    Lol you truly are ruthless

The tasmanian tiger (the thylacine) wasn't actually a tiger.

Which probably makes your statement more accurate as I gather the Lawn Bar wasn't a real bar.

Lawn bar was a good idea. God knows SOP needs somewhere to gather and drink but they shot themselves in the foot with the over policing of entry and the abysmal and expensive drink options. Not that the SOP care i guess. The Collector and train ride in option used for the victory game was eons better. Why is everything a battle to be treated like adults?

    Spot on.

SOP had a great opportunity to make a killing on this. There wasn't ever going to be trouble there. They never needed the ridiculous amount of security and riot police, nor the early closure time.

Yet, due to the current day politically correct bullshit laws, this potentially great bar, where La Banda could have jammed and patrons had a great time, turned to ****.

Such a shame considering the amount of work the RBB did to get it happening.

I'm really over this new, politically correct world. Everything is about the protection of the customer. It sickens me as a responsible patron.

How about, just for a ******* change, the customer/patron takes some self responsibility?

Really, can it be that hard? It never used to be. And if a patron is a ****wit and misbehaving, just piss him/her off, just like the old days.

It's not rocket science and it never was.

Why has it become so difficult?

The airport level security and $10 for a mid strength can of premix meant that I only tried it once. Can't wait for derby collector and train to Allianz!

Quick one, do you think that your new stadium will ever hold a Sydney Derby ?
If Olympic park continues to get 60k will your club see the $$$ or will it think of the fans (not sydney fans)?

I would be amazed if they didn't host the first home derby there at least, but who knows nowadays.

I can see the club pushing for one derby of the two (if it's the year we host two) to be at ANZ. Ideally, if we could get SFC to agree to it we have one at ANZ, Western Sydney Stadium & Allianz each year and just rotate the order then that would be great. Could even either split the revenue 50/50 with the ANZ game or the 'host' gets the revenue each year, with the host changing.

I disagree. Regardless of extra revenue (as that is the obvious reason why suits want it moved to ANZ), the ground is possibly the worst in Australia to watch football in unless it is a sell out (we can clearly see that it won't sell out unless it is a final). 60,000 people at the derby this year barely sounded like 6,000. Keep it split with 1 home and 2 away or vice versa for as long as we can. Eventually with expansion we will play every team only twice and we don't want them to have a reason to drop Parra and keep the ANZ game.

ANZ is due to be renovated as soon as Parra is completed, so we will definitely host derbies at Parra for at least 3-4 years after the ground is completed.

Until they actually start it, ANZ is one of those projects that could be easily pulled the plug on to fix up NSW govt budgets

the NSW govt supposedly got a surplus last year.

as far as ANZ is concerned, the proposal is operate at reduced capacity during the upgrade.

We want derbies back at Parramatta instead of soul-less ANZ.

It is all down to the club, I can see the coach/player/fans all wanting to play at Parramatta because of the home advantage for the exact same reason the club insisted we play our ACL final at parramatta.

The question is, with all the extra revenue made off that derby will the club be to turn that down? From a pure business decision it would be very difficult especially with the new training base being built (figures of $20-25m being thrown around) to turn down that money.

I also think that there might be pressure from the FFA on both clubs to boost the metrics. If it wasn't for that first derby then the current seasons figures wouldn't look as impressive.

Long term I think this is the answer. Make the ANZ derby the first of the year, both teams would have a positive impact & ensure the highest attendance for both teams.

    **** off
Unfortunately this in not my opinion but long terms what I see will happen. Just to reiterate the above:

    - Start of season, both sets of fans will turn up as new season & all possibilities of silverware are open

    - It's about metrics, attendance, TV ratings etc & scoring points over the other codes. All this feeds into hyping up the game leading to more excitement, better reach & eventually a better TV deal.

We can either embrace the modern aspects of the game today or we can embrace the old school aspects of football & get left behind. Just the cold hard reality of the way things are these days.

That wasn't aimed at you mate.  Just my general observation on ANZ.  You're right though.  It's not about the community anymore.  Just money, metrics and ROI.  He wasn't perfect but Lyall got the nuance and launched WSW for what it is fast not becoming anymore.

Let ANZ be used for the exhibition games when the foreign teams come here for a holiday.

Derby at Parra.....Can you imagine it with more people and cover over the RBB it will be insane.

especially as our streak might be out to 6 years by then. Arnie will be trumpeting how much he is looking forward to visiting our 'boutique' stadium to stuff us once more   ;)
