The worse 4 games of the World Cup were the quarter finals.

Because there was so much at stake. Now we have the mother of all semi finals to look forward to.

I hope so! I miss goals.

Dutch keeper is very chatty!

He acted like a complete and utter knob!  That sort of crap should not be tolerated regardless of what is at stake.

I was thinking that also but then I agreed with Alan Shearer on the BBC commentary that it is up to the player taking the penna to deal with it. **** I remember Liverpool's Brue Grobbelaar in the 80's used to be a total wanker as a player was walking up to take a penna and during the run up but his was good showmanship, Krul didn't do it with style.

Sheesh, if the goalkeeper plays mind games - play mind games back.

When Krul was on walkabout, I would've just booted the ball into the goal and then told him to get the hell into position so I could boot the ball into the goal again.

Would've shut him up for sure.

Agreed, no diff to cricket.

Always love the story of when a team was bowling to Viv Richards and Viv pulled out of a few shots, the bowler had a chirp in his ear and held the ball in front of him and said 'Viv, this is what the ball looks like'

Next ball Viv smashes him for a massive 6 and says ' You know what the ball looks like, now go and get it'

That is how to deal with mouthy bastards  :good:

I thought keepers could get carded if they kept doing that, obviously not.He should've tried the old Grobelar wobbly legs routine! Lol

You can get a caution for unsporting conduct, but it'd be a very very very very insane/brave/stupid referee to dole out a second yellow or a straight red in a shootout like that.

Yeah, it is a bit like sledging, not really sportsman like but happens, and like has already been mentioned, you can give it back.

Another cricket classic-

Bowler to batsman ' Hey why are you so fat?

Batsman to bowler ' Because every time I **** your wife she gives me a biscuit' lol

It was interesting that the referee allowed him to do it before the first penalty but after the Brian Ruiz miss that he stepped in and sort of stopped him from sledging! This didn't stop Krul from letting off a few choice words as he walked from the penalty spot back to the goal line.

Look I don't mind the keeper jumping up and down on the spot, banging the cross bar or go side to side but psyching out the pen taker so blatantly shouldn't have been allowed. After he did it the first time, he should have got warned and a second time he should have got carded!

I also feel that it is different to cricket, cricket you bowl at 22 yards and the pen is taken at 12 yards. Sledging is not allowed in the face of the batter, neither should it be allowed to be done in the face of the penalty taker.

If the keeper hasn't already been booked then if the referee gives him his first during the shoot-out, then the keeper won't do it anymore.

problem solved

Very Gridiron like to bring on a specialist keeper for the shootout, never seen that done before.

The only argument against having a 4th substitution available for the penalty shoot-out to change the goalkeepers would be,

'it goes against the tradition of the game because we haven't done that for over 100 years, so why should we change it now?'

I think LVG has set a precedent now, everyone will start doing it. I think leave it at 3 subs n penalties. I'm not a fan of the shoot outs but what else can you do? Heads or tails? Paper rock scissors? Lol

"Brazil in brazil, you cant beat it", SBS - they obviously forgot about 1950.

I really hope colombia beat brazil. Really REALLY want brazil out and colombia have easily been playing better football. Getting completely over the underlying belief that they deserve it just because its in their home country. Cant remember this much crap about germany in 2006.

Rubbish SBS analysts aside, that was a good match to watch. Well done Germany, the steamroller carries on

Hey Braad...hahaha...you're much gentler on the Pets Thread.   :P

Go Brazil!! Nice to think of 200 million happy Brazilians after all the financial burdens, losses of life during construction of stadia etc. etc etc

Dunno about "200 million happy Brazilians". I saw a poll that the team Brazilians least want to win the cup is Brazil...

Aside from the game against Chile, where Howard Webb refereed. 200 million "Happy Brazillians" know when a referee is carrying them all the way to victory.

I can't see Brazil losing a game. It's quite unbelievable to be honest. Let's hope Germany's power and influence as a big football nation can sway the tide a bit.

group stages were more entertaining, these matches are tactical like a chess game. Germany Brazil wow i can see the Germans being able to sustain the physical presence of the Brazilians. But home ground advantage is a major plus. Germany its now or never.

It was still risking using only 2-subs until that point. I can't see it happening too much with 3-subs in place, but if they brought in the 4th sub rule for ET then it's more likely to happen.

Daily reminder that Brazil can go and get fücked

The danger signs were there in Brazil's previous match against Chile. Right at the start Fernandinho flew into a late tackle. It was a clear yellow card. None was awarded. This leniency has been so prevalent that we can only assume the referees are acting on some kind of FIFA directive.

Brazil have been a protected species throughout this WC, and a very lucky to have made the semis. Chile deserved to beat them in the Round of 16. I will be cheering on the Germans in the semi.

I read that article and he makes no sense. He says the referees let Brazil get away with things so it's Brazils fault that Neymar got injured. Blame the dodgy referees. If a player makes a bad tackle and the ref lets it go it's going to lead to more bad tackles, regardless of who's playing. However if the referee books the player then the opposition don't look for revenge or the opportunity for a "free shot" as he mentions in the article.

If Brazil like "tactical fouling" then the referees need to decide whether it's worthy of punishment, and actually have the sack to give the punishment, or it's being handled correctly and everyone needs to deal with it.

Usually Brazil seems to be everyone's darling, and the Germans are the team everyone seemingly loved to hate. Not this time around, apparently. Interesting.

This is a very strange German team. They are not so clinical as usual, but clever and cunning instead. Very Italian. They all play in top European teams, and it shows. We are yet to see the best of Goetze, and I am wondering if he will deliver against Brazil.

I am well into old fart territory, and 2am matches are killing me. I will cut my beauty sleep short for this monster of a semi final.

Your first paragraph actually appears to be agreeing with him on this point. Brazil tactical fouling > no yellow cards > players push tackles to the limit to which they can get carded > player gets injured? The only time when you could say that a player would want revenge is when a foul has occurred but the referee hasn't picked up on it which is what happened in the neymar incident. This is what I assume happened but when he is referring to the free shot he is referring to the times in which Brazil committed a foul early on (fernandinio in the chile match) and gets away with it which allows for the opposition (chile to make a crude yellow cardable offence) to get away with it.

You make a good point though, blame the referee!! I must admit you look at the fouls made in the Brazil matches and you wonder how there weren't more yellow cards for persistent fouling? Perhaps the referee's have been given a bit more personal discretion at handing out yellow and red cards in this tournament which I have noticed in a couple of games where a second yellow could have been warranted but hasn't done so!! This could be a directive from FIFA or the referee's boss but until they come out and say anything you have to take it with a grain of salt.

I think they are relaxing the strictness on silly yellow cards and as a result we are seeing more tactical fouls not been picked up as yellow cards. So it isn't necessarily balls to do so and neither is it the fact that they aren't handing out cards appropriately or fairly.

Regarding referees being soft on Brazil / conspiracy etc etc (BTW... I'm neutral on the Euro v Sth America semi's)

Statistics wise so far:

Brazil: 96 fouls - 10 yellows

Hol:     91  "      -  7    "

Ger:    57  "      -  4    "

Arg:    54  "      -   5   "

So, on these figures are ref's easy on Brazil?? I'm not suggesting they are not deserved. (btw, not positive these figures are totally accurate, I'm sure someone will correct me)
