Apparently he's been on the toilet for the past two days, not well

obviously LvG thought a half strength/motor RVP would be better than Huntelaar! Lucky he didn't struggle whilst he was on the field!

Penalties are Krul....

Don't worry I'm leaving ;)

On a side note though, the Dutch keeper still hasn't saved a penalty in his career and I wouldn't say two were saveable but they could have been saved if the keeper was confident/on his game!

These sbs commentators are ******* idiots. Blaming keeper and van gaal. Just coz it worked once you ****wits doesn't mean he has to do it every match.

These guys are ******* idiots.

They had 120 mins to win the game, you can't rely on bringing on a goalkeeper in penalties to save you

Argentina deserved to win it

Holland played ok but can you say they played well? They needed to attack and for the most part were cagey.

Argentina grounded a draw through to the penalties and won.

Argentina really havent been that impressive but hey they are in the finals and really that is all that matters.

Holland seem to be the eternal bridesmaid. At a couple of World Cups they have had the best team but can never lift the thing.

Really they can point to possession stats in the game but they really didnt open up Argentina.

Yeh, it's a bloody lottery when it comes down to pens how can you say that the keeper was at fault!! Ned you need your brains examined mate!!! Plus the LVG call, only his fault if he didn't think his keeper could save penalties which is absolute bullshit otherwise he wouldn't have picked him in the first place!! Also the LVG/Krul decision was only because there was an spare substitute spot!! All three subs were necessary (RVP gastro, de Jong not having the fitness and zindi had a yellow) and nothing to do with LVG!

Apart from edging the first half, then it was pretty much both teams playing not to lose, so you have to say it was a very lucky result when it comes to penalties!!

Yep agree with all of that, though I must say with Argentina... Whether it be the group stages or the eliminations, they just find a way to win! They don't seem to be that full attacking South American flair but they are so resolute in defence, almost as if they are set up not to lose but then seem to have moments where they win the game!

Poor game that in my opinion. I don't think the Dutch will ever win a WC lol

Germany should comfortably win the final I would think. Not expecting a classic but hope I am wrong.

Germany to win 2-1 within the 90 mins. No real drama, just the Teutonic efficiency that will get the job done and get them out of there with the trophy. And as much as I might not like it you have to admire the German resilience when it comes to tournaments like this.

So with a choice between the Argies or Germans I will jump on board the German express.

Yes and this is the thing. Both teams in the final know how to win. The killer instinct. Disciplined enough to get the result. Although people will say Germany is a more complete team the Argies know how to keep it tight and have a couple of players who can really hurt you.

You can have all the possession in the world in football but if you dont score it means nothing.

Both Germany and Argies pretty solid in defence. Could either be a 1-0 win for either or 0-0 after 120 mins and pennas.

I'm just so glad both Brazil and Netherlands will be no where near the Cup.

For me there is no vested interest anymore. I wanted Robben to miss the penalty so badly. I knew deep down inside a guy like that would put it away everytime, but it just would of been so sweet..

Dutch over Brazil though. Would love to see Brazil lose again. Another 7-1 esque goal fest please!

After what happened last game and with Cillessen having occasions of penalties going to 10+ with 0 saved his confidence would've been shot

lol I didn't want Brazil near the cup either and in an ideal world I would have preferred if it wasn't Germany who knocked them out but anyway.

But I have no loyalty or back ground that links me to Brazil, Netherlands, Germany or Argentina, I had a preference of course, but at the end of the day do I really care who wins.......... not really. So long as the final is entertaining, which I fear it might not be.

I would like to see the Dutch get 3rd, but the 3rd / 4th play off game is meaningless and should be stopped I think. I won't be watching it.

It is a world cup, and it is good to see a European and a South American team in the final. Big football nations are the basis for great teams. Good football teams win matches, good football nations win titles. In that sense it is no surprise that we always see the same nations up there.

I am surprised how well Demichelis has been doing for Argentina. It must have been a personal triumph for him to beat LvG's team as it was van Gaal who didn't want him at Bayern. His ex team mates from Bayern (Klose, Podolski, Mueller, Schweinsteiger, Lahm and to a lesser extent Kroos and Hummels) will know his strengths and weaknesses. It could just make the difference in the final.

Missed most of this morning's action (sleep was most interesting than watching the Dutch or Argentinians and by the sounds of it I made a sound choice). It's certainly set up to be an intriguing final, and I wouldn't be so eager to discount the Argies as much as others may do in the next few days. Having said that a champion team will always beat a team of champions and there is so much quality in the way that Deutschland are set up.

And right now the unhappiest people in the world would have to be the Brazilians...$11 billion spent to have basic social infrastructure ignored, plus to have the hated next door neighbours play in a World Cup final in your most famous stadium against a team that absolutely rooted your favoured sons to the tune of 7-1...and there's still the bill for Rio 2016 to come.

lol That would be right, the one time I back the Germans they will get beaten

nahhh don't think there are any left in Brazil are there lol If I was there I know I would be having a great time regardless. I would love a ticket and an opportunity to attend any world cup final regardless of who was playing. I would even pull on a Germany or Argentina shirt to support one or the other.

Anyway the Argies will need to put up a better defence in the final then they did at Port Stanley in 1982 ;-)

Now there's an idea...for the 2018 World Cup the FA send the 2nd Battalion of the Parachute Brigade. Now they would make any ***** defence look laughable.

If Di Maria is available for the final it will give Argentina that xtra width speed and flair it lacked in this match. Holland relied too much on robben and van persie and were lucky to win against Costa Rica on penalties. That should of been their wake up call to go for chances to play for the win at the semi final, u only get one lucky card get out of jail once in a tournament.

Kuyt was lackless always looking for the pass going backwards instead of fwd or using the wing to force a cross in.

Germany is gonna come out on steam the first 20 mins to unsettle Argentina, if Argentina can hold on then it will become a great battle.

Battle for 3rd spot will be an entertaining match, just like the group stages, more open ,more risks, more goals :woah:

Do you think Germany will mark Messi as much as the dutch did?

Posted

i think Germany will try to maintain as much possesion as possible to starve away any potential attack from the argies. Messi is goin to have to dig deep and gain the ball from close to half way and go on his runs or if not argies might have to play ala Dutch style route one football and by pass the German defence and either line balls or straight up field long balls to the front 3.

The problem in that is that Argies don't have tall holding strikers to play that kind of football besides Higuain and its not the Argentina way.

Has any one noticed that sbs headquarters have told etchy Ned Zelic to keep his hands on his laps so he doesn't turn his football debates into a tyroid of arm/hand waving everywhere rants where it looks like hes about to knock out Kalac and fly out of his chair!
